Seems to a mere mortal like me you have been lucky, you are free today if you have parted with quite a lot of money obviously there is no smoke without fire
Do not even think about coming back, Cuba, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cambodia Vietnam to name but a few
If you have a few spare millions go to lawyers let them do the necessary and clear you, but then you will probably put yourself back in the hole

To get the multiple entry non-o visa just requires the marriage certificate plus a copy. signed copies of the wife's house book and ID card. The fee for the visa is 5000 baht.
The costs add up, visa run each 90 days visa into Lao
There is another alternative a payment of around 16,000 can get a retirement visa
If interested I might be able to point you in the right direction, also does the 90 day report automatically, PM me

At the Aussie embassy you don't have to demonstrate anything. You just sign a statutory declaration as to your income, and that's accepted by Thai immigration. Obviously you are supposed to be honest, but there are no checks to substantiate your income.Sure !
If you can demonstrate a monthly income of 65,000/40,000 way of an Embassy letter that will be acceptable to immigration.
Does the British Embassy require checks?
My understanding is the British Embassy will accept copy bank statements showing the money coming in,
I have a UK old age pension of 190 pounds per weekend am told with copy statements for a year I can get a letter for 52 *190 9880 pounds sterling per annum, I would just print off my Royal Bank of bank statements for the UK
In thai batt that would give 533,520, more than sufficient for the marriage ext.requirement of 400,000

Option #4: go to Big C and buy a red clown nose, go to the airport, smile and say I am a clown and "make a boo boo"= the officer will point, laugh, take a Facebook photo and let you exit debt free.
I like this suggest you follow advice and let us know how you do

Please don't tell him to go home.
He has no "home" at home anymore, can't you see?
He will end up in a mental asylum, maybe get a winter depression, and will be done forever. Being mentally sick in Europe means you get stigmatized forever, worse than a criminal.
This man is in a horrendous predicament, probably brought on himself, and I am not over sympathetic
I find it hard to believe he has no family, maybe some he has pissed off but maybe might just help him
Essential to get back to his own country that will probably in Europe have some social; security, better stigmatised for ever than dead in Bangkok
Maybe some Belgium charities can assist
Something drastic needs to be done, maybe go to embassy get inside , refuse to leave, they are unlikely to call Thai police, push the embassy to the very limit, let them know you are suicidal, maybe get a newspaper to go with you, the Embassy just want you tot go away, give them no easy way out, chain yourself to their railings as a last resort, go to your euro MP, I doubt somehow if they will actually allow you to die chained to the embassy, at least you will elevate your predicament
The man is a human being
Try AA or NA (alcoholics anonymous or Narcotics anonymous) not a phone call a meeting, they have experience in dealing with these sorts of problems

What are you calling a dependent extension. Have you been getting extensions as a parent of a Thai? Or as the parent of a child attending school?
If as a parent of a Thai their is no age limit for getting the extension. Immigration ismisreading the clause of the police order for that extension.
I would confirm my understanding If as a parent of a Thai their is no age limit for getting the extension.
Suggest you revisit immigration with plenty of time to spare just in case

just one proverb , god favours the brave & well prepared.
so mote it be.
cheers roobaa01
It is for this reason I have marriage extension, despite retirement extension being easier if one has money
I believe that marriage extensions are less likely to be attacked in the event of change, because it would also be a further human rights violation

In USA there would not be any financial requirement asked of the foreign partner.
Nor in the UK, and also not in Thailand if you are a male thai marrying a foreigner
The rules were set before I came to live here, but I believe as do the majority of the world, that this differentiation between male and female goes against basic human rights
Surely after three years married (to substantially stop the marriage scam) and living here we could be granted permanent residency, many of us support far more than just a wife, my self for instance, I look after my wife's two children from a former marriage, her mother and father and grandmother, and have two full time workers in the house and gardens, and have built two houses, my contribution to the economy is substantial I am very happy to say
England today is a nightmare to get a wife into, but after a valid period there, that wife will eventually get a UK passport and be granted full rights, this does not happen here
I can live peacefully with these rules BUT WE NEED TO FIND A WAY TO GET THIS CHANGED
How do we achieve this change
I believe even the negative brigade on TV would not be against this, so maybe we persuade Thai Visa to take up the fight initially, how many votes could TV raise

That's right but what if I transfer money to that account every month although I don't live in that country? That's what I'm slightly worried about.
The company i work for transfers a large portion of my salary to a country i dont live in and have never lived in every month
This shouldnt be a concern for you
Originally I come from the Uk, I am retired, I am legitimately non resident for tax in the UK, I have no assets in the UK
My Uk pension is liable to Uk tax but below the personal allowance threshold so no tax
My Uk pension is paid to a UK bank
I also have an Isle of Man sterling bank account that I can use to keep things outside the UK, that have also not originated in the UK, I am aware of the sharing of information these days but my off shore account breaks no UK rules, nor Thailand rules, I also do not temp HMIT to look further because of transactions going through a UK account ( Uk banks have to inform HMIT of a large number of items that go through a persons bank account)
I believe I am clean and totally legal, well I hope so!!

Hi al007,
that's interesting. I did not know there is such a big difference between England and the US. Although, sometimes it is subject to interpretation of the tax adviser or it seems like that if you are taxable or not
The rules of taxable income within the country seem to be the same in many European countries, at least I can tell it seems to be the same in Germany and Italy.
Europe tax structues among the various countries is very similar in many respects certainly when countries are all members of the EU, would they love to get a "US" type tax model in place ? Yes they would
I am but a simple Retired Chartered Accountant, non practising and not a specialist in tax, but with an above average knowledge on tax where I live, that has recently and currently(10yrs) been in the UK and Thailand
I also do not wish to evade any tax, also taxation was not a consideration when choosing to retire in Thailand, when I refer to thailand as being low to almost non existent, for tax, I am only referring to RETIRED People NOT those still working, or with income producing assets in Thailand
I have investigated tax here in Thailand several times due to my wish to pay what I genuinely owe, and believe my comments are correct
My comment on low tax also would exclude USA passport holders living in Thailand, because the USA still tax you, unlike the UK and some of Europe when you are not there
Further here in Thailand at present there are no real estate taxes, which in London and or Florida can be very substantial
On the other side free health care and social security are off the list for the expat, but I like being able to choose how I spend my money rather than the UK or USA enforcing healthcare costs on me
If anyone believes my understanding is misguided, please enlighten me

OP seems to be a newly found Thailand-romantic,,, who havent seen the light of day yet. Wait Sir, your time will come. Your eyes will be opened, and your view of Thailand maybe will adjust to a reality where the rest of us must live in....
As Lopburi 3 says...... People complain and very often there is a reason for it..
Glegolo
Maybe you are correct sir, I have only been here eight plus years, time will tell, interesting you say where the rest of us must live, as if it is onerous, and if that is the case maybe should consider returning to ones home land
I am lucky all my 70plus years of life I have been happy and enjoyed where i lived, be it Manhattan, down town Kingston Jamaica, United Kingdom , on the borders of Gaza, with rockets on a daily basis, or Southern NewZealand, maybe my expectations are lower than most peoples, but it gives me contentment
You are also correct many people who complain have a valid reason, and without them voicing opinions things would not improve
We also need to remember there is a disproportional number of wingers and negative people on this forum, is the glass half full or half empty

There is a lot of unfair criticism of Thai Immigration, the bulk of which is unjustified
I believe the bulk of that criticism comes from those who should not really be living here, and would in no way be allowed aces to USA, Europe or the UK unless their home country
Generally those who can not meet the required financial criteria should all be sent home, and the criticisms would substantially evaporate
Normally those fortunate enough to be able to comply with the financial requirements seldom have problems
Those who avail themselves of the alternative, system of paying for an agent to negotiate their visas on a different basis also do not complain
Just imagine you were in UK or USA on overstay, you would receive no mercy, try arriving in these countries on visitor visa and converting to long stay a total nightmare and probably impossible
Personally I believe the problem visitors should all be sent home, where they will complain even more, and even here are exploiting their home countries social security benefits
It would be good to see Thai Immigration taking a much stronger stance against those who exploit and do not comply with the requirement in this country

In simplistic terms if you are retired and not earning money in Thailand the likelihood is you will pay no taxes here, with the exception of tax deducted at source on interest paid on cash deposit accounts, and this can also be reclaimed
My understanding is pension income brought into thailand is not taxable here
Money brought in from savings is not taxable
If one has investment income outside thailand so long as it is not brought in , in the same year as earnt it also is not taxable
If you come from england and are non resident, you only pay tax on income generated in England, and if like me your pension is under the personal allowance you pay no tax
My QROPS pension suffers tax at 5% only in Gibraltar
Thailand is a very low tax place to live for expats, although USA citizens are still liable to USA tax on their world income, unless they revoke their US citizenship

Really very simple be aware of the rules
Be aware of different possible interpretation
Keep it simple and in one account then nothing to interpret or negotiate
Remember we choose to live here, I personally am very happy, but have to accept the rule book is interpreted in many different ways, that is if there even is a rule book
Godbless the Queen and Happy Birthday tomorrow

I went to KhonKaen for annual marriage extension, I had all the correct paper work, and bank letter on my BangKok Bank sterling account, all updated yesterday morning, we got to immigration at 9.10 because we had to go to bank first
Immigration was exceedingly busy, however we were out by 10.05, all done dusted, new stamp until sept 9 when we get the revised extension
I could not ask for easier or better service, THANK YOU
I now hear a person was refused retirement extension because his money was in two separate accounts, and this man is blaming immigration because they wanted a bonus from him, I reply I believe so long as the money in the two accounts for the full 90 days, with no switching from one account to the other he would not be refused, (I personally believe he had not complied with the rules and instead of blaming himself wants to blame someone else)
I do believe during the seasoning period you may not switch accounts from savings to investment etc
Can any one let me know the exact rules
Khon Kaen rated 10 out of TEN credit where credit is due

I believe most of them believe we are far below status of Buffalo
In my wife family after her grandmother I am the oldest and hence when her grandmother die I will be head of the family they all hate this but so far as I am aware this is fact

Substantially the better shopping malls, if being too hot is s serious problem Thailand not for you
Having said that we only have air-conditioning in the bedroom and generally run around 27/28 but recently all too often I retreat to bedroom and air in afternoon and watch TV 39/40 and 41 plus too much for me!!

To giddyup. Mate, you seem to be so bitter. I have done all of the protocols and I am a married man to a Thai lady in Australia and Thailand. Next year my Thai wife and I will visit Busselton in West Australia (most of my Aussie friends are near here) Here we will have a second wedding at the jetty. I am trying to convince my wifes' son and daughter to visit as well but they are so shy. Please try not to be so negative and judgemental. What you troll is not fact
I'm not bitter, I'm pointing out the facts to you. If you think 9 monks ringing a few bells and a visit to the Amphur office constitutes a legal marriage recognised by the Aussie government you are in for a rude shock. But hey, if that's what you want to believe don't let me burst your bubble. BTW, trying to set you straight is not trolling, something else you are wrong about.
I will talk from my experience
I got married at the Amphur in BKK and it is recognised worldwide
My other choice was village wedding with all the monks etc not valid internationally, UNLESS validated at local Amphur
Or can just get married at local Amphur and again internationally legal, no monks
I chose BKK because we had to get various docs validated in BKK also BKK gives a marriage certificate in English, this was all seven years ago so things could have changed

Strangly enough I was just thinking about starting the exact same topic.I agree with many of the posters on here as I returned to the UK for the first time in 10 years last year and had the same experience. My predicament is that I have got bored with Thailand.I have a great wife, beautiful daughter and I am now in my twilight years.I am lucky enough to still own a house in the UK,all bought and paid for, likewise a house here,2 cars etc.all paid for.
My post was going to be,if you were in my situation i.e. bored with Thailand and wanting a better life for your family which you could finacially support, what would you do?
I suspect that many expats have burned their bridges and just maybe stuck here.I am lucky enough not to be in that situation as I took a long term view regarding my life in Thailand.I must admit it was great at the begining but the way things are now I find Thailand is becoming a less attractive place to live as an expat and having a family.I look forward to your feedback.
Boredom dangerous, something I have to do my very best to avoid
From your post sounds like you have more than enough financial trappings and security, as in fact do I
You mention twilight years BE CAREFUL do not rock the boat, just because you are a little bored
I live on five Rai with wife and two alsatians and a couple of people to help, I get bored I run away with wife for three nights to 5 star hotel and cannot wait to get home !!
Last year I built another house on our land that is so beautiful we sleep there occasionally, but it kept me busy
I self manage my investments on a daily basis keeps the adrenalin moving, especially over the last couple of weeks
I have all the Uk TV Channels
Have taught the little wife to drive the Toyota pick up so when I am too old she can drive or if I drink too much whisky
Maybe I need to build water reservoir with all the water shortages
Then I can go for massage with beautiful lady as well
UK alternative, house , no wife, no staff, garden dead 5 months of year, go to pub same old boring people, cold, wet and much more tax to pay, NO WAY HERE SO MUCH BETTER

I am a very lucky and happy man, I have lived here 7/8yrs, am married to lady who looks after me like a king, even though I am sometimes a difficult man
Most of my Uk friends have died, I was always the youngest of the crowd
My mother and three best friends all died in the last two years
My son does not want to know he is mad because I have told him wife here inherits whatever might be left when I go, and what about his grandchildren, I got him set up with four houses in Greenwich and docklands, no one ever helped me get started
I have nowhere to stay or go if I visit uk but it is cold expensive and a long way away
I am 70 yrs old and whilst it is upsetting also it is life, I have never been so well cared for as I currently am, would i change my choices, yes definitely, should have done it far earlier !!!!! the gains so far outweigh the losses

It is all relative, i live with wife her two children, two large alsatians, our house is paid for, we have full time maid and gardener we need 100,000 per month, I am over 70 and self insure medical
If I got a bill for 1.0M Batt I would scream and shout but could at the end of the day pay it, annual insurance premiums are too expensive and have very low caps like 500,000 so a bad investment, and it is not reckless to self insure, it is reckless not to have a plan and evaluated the situation
I am very happy here and if I were living in the Uk I would be renting small place and existing, my overall quality of life here is so very good
