Returned from CW today and applied for 60 day extension and successfully received an under consideration stamp which (upon return to CW in 2 weeks) should extend my stay 60 days from November 30th. I have been on amnesty since April with a Non-B work visa (no work permit) and previously had extended to November 30th using the US Embassy letter. The US embassy is no longer providing letters and their website says a letter is not needed as shown here https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/covid-19-information/

I read the article and there is no mention of if an embassy letter was used. I wish there was at least 1 account of someone confirming no embassy letter was required. Seems everyone is just assuming based on the extension form. But in reality they are still turning people away for the 60 day extension if you don't have an embassy letter in Bangkok as recently as yesterday. Hopefully someone eventually confirms they got a 60 day extension in BKK without an embassy letter. Right now we only have assumptions unfortunately.

Thank you! According to Google maps, the office is in the Liberty building? Sorry, but was an appointment necessary? Or you could just walk in with all the proper paperwork and get your marriage registration + certificate?

I have dealt with the one on Thong-lo and they were very easy to deal with, we got our marriage registered there with little hassle, I got my yellow Tabien bookand I just had to show them my passport and my daughters birth certificate, and they were the ones that noticed that name was spelt wrong in Thai, so corrected it and issued a new one no charge, also just recently I got my pink card and I just had to show my passport and Yellow Tabien book and it took them about 10 minutes, then I had to wait to get my picture taken. Overall it was a very good experience.

Thank you for your answer. Our translation service (very good so far) assures us our papers are ready (though your warning is acknowledged and appreciated) and has quoted us an 8000 baht charge for the marriage day stuff. Another service quoted 7000 baht so that seems to be the going rate.
Any other recommendations would be welcome as we are listening and researching. Thank you!

Other than Bangrak, are there other farang friendly amphur offices for marriage in Bangkok. We are two farang getting married and will not have a Thai with us so wish for it to go smoothly (both of us speak Thai fairly well).
Along with any recommendations, please note if an appointment is needed or not as that seems to be uncertain in my research.
Thank you very much!

You are such a "fast learner" it only took three coffee makers to be damaged before you learned a lesson.
'nuf sed.
If "nuf sed", why did you practically repeat what I said? If I said enough, then I don't understand why you had to copy me. Perhaps you should listen to some Ronan Keating, you know this one "you say it best when...."? Thank you anyway for your comment, I appreciate your efforts, but must gently say that the previous posters were more helpful. Perhaps you should "step yo game up" as Floyd Mayweather Jr used to say so your next post will be more useful. Don't worry, not all posts are perfect, but I think you can do better. Remember the immortal words of Chumbawumba in their only hit song and take them to heart. Thank you.

Thank you both @dddave and @impulse for your ideas. I think I will try one of those shops Dave described as there are a few near where I live.
No, it wasn't a 110v (I learned my lesson after my 3 previous coffee makers as I am a fast learner).

We have a coffee maker that is broken (electrical issue). It was brought here from abroad so we can't take it to manufacturer (not Boncafe, not Nescafe).
Are there any repair shops in Bangkok that can fix it at a reasonable price (say 1000 baht or less) as it wouldn't be worth it if too much more.
Thank you!

I always like the "intelligence community" concurs summaries. As if every single person in every agency agrees with a single sentiment. Perhaps they all have separate spies on the case and are sent an online poll or email "We are doing a poll and we want to know if the CIA thinks the Wuhan Virus came from a wet market or the lab, please check with your spies in China and answer by 3 pm today as I want to make a statement to the press on behalf of the intelligence community. We have already received answers from the FBI and NSA and the other 12 agencies". Is the " Intelligence community" (whatever that means) of any country, not just the USA, going to put out a meaningful, truthful statement on any subject?

I have a single entry non-immigrant b visa which was to expire on April 9th. On March 25th, with my US embassy letter, I went to Chaeng Wattana immigration and received the "under consideration" stamp that ends on April 22. Do I need to go back to Chaeng Wattana on April 22 to "extend" ? I kindly request you begin your answer with "yes" or "no" and then your reasoning as I am not smart enough for nuance and reading comprehension of documents. Thank you!

You may wish to do some research before taking any statins. I think VBF was hinting at that too. Many studies show that the triglyceride/HDL ratio is the strongest predictor of coronary artery disease and you say your levels are "optimal". Take a few hours (we all have free time now) and do some research on the internet on the association of high LDL to CAD and the side effects of a statin drug before making your decision.

To add to that, the US Embassy gave me a letter last week hassle free and they didn't ask me what type of visa I had (non b) and as far as I know they are still giving for all in need regardless of visa type.

It means that the immigration official you dealt with was not of a high enough rank to approve the extension directly. It needs to be signed off at a higher level. With very rare exceptions, this sign off is automatic. When you go back at the report back date on the under consideration stamp, you will get additional days without needing to pay any more money.
This matches with what I was told - "the chief wasn't here today." and that I would just need to show my 1900 baht receipt when I returned and they would extend it longer. However, as I informed @bangkokboy888 and others in another post, I won't take that as gospel and will hopefully get another letter from the US Embassy (just in case) for my return around April 22.

i got the 'under consideration stamp' and have to report back also on Apr 22. I was in section K, the section for visa exempt, among others, and the immigration officer told me that i would need a new letter. i plan to ask for a 'new' letter from US embassy at the beginning of april.
As we had 2 different experiences with similar results, I think you are right- it can't hurt to get a new letter and it was easy enough to get so it would be prudent for me and you and everyone reading this to get a new letter (unless there is some big announcement in the meantime, but I won't hold my breath).
Not really of importance, I was told to go to Section K at first and then the Supervisor of K told me to go to Section N instead. So readers of this post can flip a coin when they get to CW - heads it is K , tails it is N ????

As we haven't seen the US embassy's new, personalised letter yet I should be grateful if posted a copy of it here, with your personal data (name, passport number, etc) obscured.
Yep, you got it, I used a PDF editor so I just wanted to let everyone know that Mr Big J J is not my real name. Sorry, not quite sure how to make it appear as a photo without having to download it. If an admin can instruct or do it for me, that would be fab. Thank you.

Sorry to be dumb but can you guys who have successfully obtained the 30 day extension just clarify what paperwork you had other than the mythical LETTER!
Be grateful if you could as I only have one shot left at this, failure and the overstay meter begins clicking.
I had the personlized emailed letter from the US Embassy and the usual signed photocopies of my biodata page, my entry stamp page, my visa page, my TM 6 page and a photo of myself and 1900 baht. And I also had to fill out a TM 7 form along with 2 other (shorter) forms saying I understood the penalties of overstay and some other similar form. Not to nitpick, but I guess it was more of a 28 day non-extension/extension as we discussed above rather than a 30 day extension (but it works for me for now).

I am a Canadian who is here on a METV which expired start of March. I used my last 30 day extension to allow me to stay until April 3rd. I have no intention to go home at the moment so I got the letter from my embassy on Monday explain my reasons for staying in Thailand. Yesterday on Tuesday March 24, I went to CM IO and got the extension without any problem at all They didn't even ask me any questions, just read my letter and checked my paperwork. My last extension was good until April 3rd and and I expected to be good until May 1st with this new 30 day but they only gave me until April 22nd like the other people who are reporting here. The stamp is also different than the usual extension, it doesn't say that I need to depart Thailand but rather that I need to return to immigration on April 22nd.
Also I must say that Chiang Mai immigration was very organized and they moved a lot of the services outside, the whole process was painless and very quick. Make sure you come prepared with the required documents and you should be fine. I did see some people get refused in front of me but they did not have the embassy letters.
5 minutes ago, audaciousnomad said:Okay, that mystery is solved. And I agree with Tyler's comment in the @audaciousnomad photo. I (and you reading this) have to rely on my feelings, but the inference I got from the woman who informed me about coming back to immigration was that it was more of a formality and there wasn't a question of if they will extend my visa again, that it was a done deal and I just needed my receipt of 1900 baht to present when I returned. But the question still remains how long they will extend it when I go back.

@bangkokboy888, could you let us know what it says in your stamp please? Was it permission to stay?
@audaciousnomad, would you be able to share a picture of the stamp here please?
@audaciousnomad is correct. Nice catch. I just looked at the stamp (I was only concerned with the dates before) and yes it does say "Application of stay is under consideration, Applicant must contact again in person on (then stamp showing April 22, 2020) so it would appear a 28 day non extension/extension is what it is.

There was a report today in another thread of an American using the emailed letter from the U.S. Embassy to successfully get an extension of a B visa at BKK CW Immigration:
Yes another member also did so Bangkokboy888
I started the post referenced above and if you look at my story and Bangkokboy888, it is the same in that our visas were extended until April 22nd. However, my visa wasn't expiring until April 7th. And I had not been declined for an extension at any point. As noted in my post, the runner/caller said I couldn't get the full 30 days from my visa expiration was because "the chief wasn't there"(I have no clue what that meant), but..she did tell me to come back around April 22 to extend it more (read my post for more details). So no matter what crazy math I do with my visa dates- I dont get any magic numbers of 30 or 7 or any others- for some unknown reason, they chose to extend them until April 22 ( at least today, March 25th it seems)
-
I would like to add that the workers in the N section where I received my extension were very friendly and working hard. Although they were " by the book" and weren't going to let you get away with anything such as missing documents etc., They weren't trying to give anyone a hard time either for no apparent reason- even though my suit was at the dry cleaners.

Yes, that is correct. I printed out what the US embassy sent to me in a pdf file with their "pseudo" stamp already on it. And yes, it was accepted by BBK CW immigration. It was not a real stamp by the US embassy. I printed the pdf file that the US embassy sent to me by email. Not by mail and I did not have to go to US embassy in person. Sorry to repeat myself, but I want to be crystal clear

Today, I went to Chaeng Wattana armed with my personalized letter from the US Embassy asking to add 30 days (due to Covid 19) to my Non-Immigrant B single entry 90 day visa that was due to expire in early April. Although it wasn't urgent yet I wanted to get this done.
I'll spare you as others have commented how chaotic it is/was. I believe for non-immigrant visas all had to go to Window N so keep that in mind. Once called, the woman (friendly) barely glanced at my US embassy letter, just looking at the stamp and my name on it. Everything went very smoothly (I had to fill out a TM 7 and 2 other shorter forms about overstays and permission to stay ) until after I waited a bit and the intern handed my passport back to me. My visa was extended only to April 22?? I politely asked if they could change it so it is extended 30 days from my expiration date which would have given me a couple more weeks and stayed until early May. She explained the chief wasn't there (I didn't really get this explanation) and I would need to come back near April 22 and they would extend it again . She told me to bring my receipt (of 1900 baht) . I asked if I needed to bring more documents, she said no, just the receipt on or near April 22. Although I wasn't jumping up and down at the prospect of going to CW again, I accepted it as a minor win as it buys me a little more time (with the promise of more time to be granted in the future). To be clear, this wasn't the 7 day extension and it wasn't a 30 day extension from today (April 22 is 28 days away) so I am not sure what this was (does anyone have an explanation?).
However, I wanted to let all know that the personalized letter about Covid 19 from the US Embassy was accepted by Chaeng Wattana in good faith and did get me an extra 28 days from today.

US Expat looking for Thai Cryptoexchanges that accept US Citizens

Besides Coins.co.th, are there any exchanges in Thailand where I as a US expat can transfer my money to/from a Thai bank account directly ? (without having to go through a wire transfer?). I have found many exchanges outside Thailand that have accepted me, but I would prefer one where I can deposit/withdraw directly into Thailand. Bitkub has already rejected me. Thank you in advance!
