Great win for Oranje but amazing how Brazil fell apart after the equalizer. They were in control until then but in the end it could have easily been 4:1.
-
An Argentina-Brazil final looks very likely now - but I am still going for the Dutch, also because they've come close a few times before and this might just be their year.

Fabio Capello was wheeling his shopping trolley across the supermarket car park when he noticed an old lady struggling with her bags of shopping.
He stopped and asked, "Can you manage?" - to which the old lady replied, "No way. you got yourself into this mess, don't ask me to sort it out..."

Osama Bin Laden has just released a new TV message as proove that he is still alive. He said that the English Team performance on Sunday was completely s**t.
British intelligence have dismissed the claim, stating that the message could have been recorded anytime in the last 44 years.

Tried to reply to the post by 'tomster' reporting the same problem and when I tried to submit the post, was twice logged off telling me something about a 'secure key' not matching.

Thai Air use to have a Thai Air branded Amex, has anyone got one of these or tried to get one?
Yes, I do. Have it for 3 or 4 years now and its great - for each baht spent you get a points credit which you can convert to Thai miles. Same problem as other posters - Bangkok Bank refused me although I had my account with them for more than 6 years. Applied for the AMEX card - no problem - limit started with 2 x salary and they increased it every year since.

Congrats to the Germans, who played cleanly and employed their tactics perfectly.
Haven't seen enough replays myself but have been told that the first goal by the Germans was off-side. Anyone know?
Nothing can be said about the goal that wasn't given that hasn't been said already really. It was at a time when we were on the up and had it stood, the complexion of the game changes a lot.
My feeling however in all honesty is that the Germans still would have won. They looked like they had a few more gears they could have stepped up to.
Super-sub Heskey?! What a nonsense.
Big changes are now required for England. They need to sit down and start from scratch. First change should be getting an English manager.
Anyway, like i say congratulations to the Germans. I'll be cheering you to beat Argentina.
the last english manager didn't even get them to euro 2008. fail to see how appointing an inferior manager would immediately improve things. the problems with english football are far, far more deep-set and systemic than the nationality of the manager.
What will happen to Capello now? England need a complete change-over but is he the right guy to build up a new team with young and hungry players?
who are these young and hungry players? jack rodwell and jack wilshire can't do it on their own.
Look at the England 'Under 17'. Maybe a bit too early - but there is enough talent around.

Very impressed. The German team play a beautiful football.
The 'stolen goal"? Real goal, but irrelevant for the match outcome.
Agreed - but the unfortunate thing is that nobody will ever know whether the not given goal was relevant or not. Hindsight is 20/20 but at that moment things could have turned ugly for Germany.

You can't be off-side from a goal kick (or corner, or throw in).

Well done Uruguay although Korea had their chances and would have also deserved to go through. I think that Uruguay might want to look for another goalie - he really looked shaky.

Wow! Just voted for Holland and surprised to see that they are the number 2 favourite. They just might have it in them this year - robust players (van Bommel, de Jong, Kuyt), technical skill (Sneyjder, van der Vaart, Elia) and the pace of van Persie and Robben.

Something to consider. As Ghana is the only African team left in the running, they are now the home team of Africa, so of course the South Africans will be supporting them.
How can you tell who is supporting who? You cannot hear any cheering or booing (at leat not on TV)- just the constant, stupid monotone sound of the vuvuzelas

Extremely disappointing match between Brazil and Portugal but credit to the referee for showing the yellow to Duda (?) after demanding the red for the handball by Juan.

I have a very sore neck now from continuously shaking my head in disbelieve. What a horrible exchange of hate. Somebody has to give in now - please.

Pls. read carefully nex time as I've NOT mentioned any penalty on Klinsmann.......
This is the dive I'm talking about..........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB7Y33VteME
Mea culpa - will be more careful next time.
Watched the video and agree that the acting was worth an Oscar - but I nonetheless I think it was a foul.

germany are worried. and beckenbauer's doing capello's pre-match team talk for him.
Of course they are. They might be physically fit but it is a very young and relatively inexperienced team. They will have problems to handle the pressure.

As to the USA finishing 1st, 1st in what?
The US was first in Group C of the World Cup and England was second. Which means the US plays Ghana in the second round a team not expected to make it that far verse England playing one of the tournament favorites Germany.
While I am no football expert by any means, I am 100% sure England would rather play Ghana instead of Germany.
The second thing America won is the right to say that in a four team tournament on the biggest stage in the world for the sport America won the tournament and England lost despite the fact it is by far the number one most popular sports in the country and was a devastating loss for all of their fans.
Once again what is your point? Are there not enough threads on English football at this site so all of you do not have to come into this one and attempt to put a spin on your failure and try to make it into something it wasn't?
Fully agree after reading the rest of your post.

Italy lost 2 : 3 against newcomer Slovakia. What a shame!
Shame? Why's that? Cheated their way to the World Cup last time. Ask an Australian if you have forgotten.
Good to see some new blood in the competition too.
Well, the Italians are not the only winners to cheat in the football WC history...
1966 - England, the "ghost goal"
1974 - Germany, Based on Joao Havelange ( former FIFA President from 1974 to 1998 ), the World Cup was fixed so that Germany would win.
1978 - Argentina - They were the host country and the military dictatorship aided the team's triumph.
1986 - Argentina - Maradona and the hand of god
1990 - Germany - Klinsmann's dive against Argentina in the WC final.
LOL
Better get your facts straight. The penalty German scored in 1990 was for a foul on Voeller, not Klinsmann.
Worldcup - Holland

Couldn't agree more. I have had Holland up as my favourite all along and in the end they probably deserved the win against Brazil. I do however think that the referee looked very kindly upon them. Mr. Heitinga could have seen a red card when he kicked the legs from under Fabiona without the ball being anywhere near him and how van Bommel escaped the yellow is anybodys guess. Robben is a fantastic player but is play-acting is disgusting. He plays the same in the Bundesliga and I have to wonder whether the defenders are overly cautious with him because they kow of his antics and don't want to risk a yellow card knowing that 9 out of 10 refs don't do anything about it.
Nonetheless Holland have a fantastic team and a very good coach and for sure they will be in the final.
