  1. We have now lived in 3 different places in Bangkok and in every neighbourhood there was at least one shop which delivered drinks (beer, coke, soda) to our house within 20 minutes from phoning them. Prices same or sometimes even lower than e.g. Carrefour. Not sure how to find them but our maid never had a problem to get the phone nos. Ask your neighbours or building management.

The Villa website has an 'Online Shop' option.

  2. A few British newspapers report the 'possibility' of a hung parliament at the countrys next election, and the pound goes in to freefall....Thailand edges day by day closer to civil war, political uncertainty, million man protests and anarchy and the baht stays strong.....<deleted>....where are the currency speculators when you need them :)

Thailand has the second biggest Auto Industry in the World, after the US. There are thousands of factories producing export products and even so tourism may be down a bit, I bet it is still higher than in England :-)

I believe the Baht is strong, because the Thai economy is fairly strong. It has weathered this so called "Global Economic Crisis" well.

To me, both the Thai Baht and also the Canadian Dollar are really undervalued. The US dollar, on the other hand is barely worth the paper it's printed on ;-)

Really? Wonder what the Japanese, Germans and Koreans have to say about that....

  3. You should go to the Cha Am fishing harbour. Follow the beach road to the north end. There are a few built directly at the water. I've bee to one called Lucky 2, really liked it , very simple, very fresh and inexpensive.

  4. My daughter flew Oman Air from Bangkok to Frankfurt. Mixed reviews - on the plus side, good connection in Muscat (just 2 hours either way), good food, spacious seats (economy) with own monitor, almost unbeatable price (THB 25,800 all in) - minus, service not consistent, departure from Bangkok H06:40 which makes it a really long day.

  5. The Black Swan is expensive and in my opinion, dull. Probably because it is expensive. If you want a quiet night, drop in there, because all three customers go home to bed at 9. I cannot understand for the life of me how he makes any money there.

    Here's my take:

Soi 8 - good grub, good beer, good prices, good entertainment, lively. Therefore busy, often hard to get a seat and Dave allows smoking, though that might change with the new ownership (as might the prices, but I hope not).

Londoner - Good food, don't touch the homebrew, rest of the beer good. More expensive, good entertainment, busy and "underground" which some people might not like. No smoking though.

Bully's - Good food, good beer, quite busy but not usually any entertainment. Decent prices though not as cheap as Soi 8. Worth a look though.

Robin Hood - Have not been there since my mate found a cockroach in his salad. O.K. this is Thailand, the bleeders are everywhere, but the attitude of the management did nothing to foster confidence.

Bulls Head - not been there for a while but was always good. Have some decent beer on tap, including Old Speckled Hen. Busy ground floor bar area and very social. They have comedy nights every so often.

Dubliner - Like your corner pub. Good food, good beer, medium prices a very civilised place to go for a drink and a chat.

Hanrahans - Is it still there? Beautifully done but no bloody customers. Too close to Nana? I don't really know; it's as much of a mystery why people don't go there as why a handful do go to the Black Swan.

Queen Vic - Soi 23, close to Cowboy (never been there myself - is it good?). Quiet last time I was there. Nicely done, good food, good beer, a little expensive.

There are a few others too. You'll need more than one night to hit them all!! It will be fun though. Can I come?

Wow - didn't know that. Is that a fact or just a rumour? Do you know details?

Got the details, been sold to the people who own molly's and the australian on soi 11.

    Thanks - but :)

  7. If I remember correctly they would not have qualified in that instance but for pressure on EUFA being the holders. In the event of that happening again I believe the holders like Liverpool in 2005/2006 would be included in the qualifying rounds. :)

I recall the pathetic whining at the time.

If a team won it the previous year but aren't good enough to even qualify the following year, they should be left out of it accordingly. It is a merit-based competition.

Fully agree - not even the World Champion automatically qualifies for the next World Cup.

  8. Doesn't the winner of the Carling Cup also get a place in Europe?

No the Carling Cup doesn't qualify for entry to Europe hence why so many teams put out the kids when playing rounds before the semis.

Look it uo on Wikipedia - the winner does get a spot in Europe. I guess you'll find that only the big teams who anyhow qualify for Europe will send out their youngsters.

  9. not sure on this. some areas can be designated duty free such as langkawi in malaysia, but not sure how it works for king power in town

It's only a 'pre-order' shop - you choose, pay and then you pick-up the merchandise at the airport on your way out of the country.

  10. Senor Pico's is a great place, but unfortunately the menu is 100% Mexican, so that's not going to help the OP. Don't know of any Peruvian ones but there's Fogo Vigo Churrascaria Bar and Grill which is a Brazillian style steakhouse. It's in the Chitlom area.

FOGO VIVO closed quite some time ago - more than a year, at least.
