I've been waiting for the right time to come back. I had my first Thai Pass approved to travel on December 31, but due to the new covid variant starting to run rampant, I cancelled, losing all my insurance and asq hotel fees. Luckily, my airline tickets were reimbursed except the $500 cancellation. Lesson learned: Don't come until this all clears up.

14 hours ago, Wiggy said:Then get rid of it. How’s that for seamless? Oh, sorry far too logical for Thailand.
My feelings, exactly. Thailand Pass is absolutely a disaster. I'm trying to come back to my home in Ubon and find it is so user unfriendly. Too many hoops to jump through. Sure miss the good old days where you just bought your airline ticket and arrived in Thailand with no drama.

Interesting times.
The look on her face is priceless. I'm not sure she knew what she would be into when she accepted the nomination for PM.

I hope she doesn't flee and calls the bluff of her adversaries. The NCPO, courts, military, NLA, independent agencies, yellow shirt clique will no doubt find her guilty regardless of what is just as there is no separation of powers or effective rule of law in Thailand. Will they jail her? And what would be the reaction of western democracies into making Yingluck a high profile political prisoner? Would that be in the interests of the NCPO?
The Americans and EU have openly said in recent times that they believe that her prosecution is political. I would be interested to see how they would react to her jailing
Excuse me. "Yingluck a political prisoner?"
I don't think you can put Yingluck in the same class as other true political prisoners.
She has been charged with the crime of dereliction of duty for her inaction for not stopping the mismanagement of the rice pledging scheme. I don't know of any real political prisoners that has ever been charged with such blatant crimes. Political crimes usually are charged for a person criticizing the political party in power. Yingluck is not being charged for dissention, but a criminal charge for mismanagement of her duties.
Let the courts do their thing to hear her plea and why she thought it was OK to completely ignore the calls that corruption was running rampart by the opposition party. Now she is being held responsible for her actions, or (inactions as the case may be). Her claiming asylum for being a political prisoner is pure BS.

Ah, the yellows always get a free pass....history has few exceptions to this. There are a few, but they are far between.
The yellow shirt leader is in jail for 20 years while the red shirt leaders are walking free. Even with the reality of the situation so vividly clear some still fly against the face of it.
Here are the exceptions you mention just for January this year.
12th of January - The Election Commissioner (EC) on Wednesday decided to throw out several complaints made against alleged election misconducts by former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra during the most recent general election in February, 2014.
13th of January - The Administrative Court on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed by 28 Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom residents against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra in which they demanded compensation for damages from alleged mismanagement of floodwaters by her government in 2011.
21st of January - Former Pheu Thai MP Karoon Hosakul was granted bail after he was found guilty of defaming former Democrat MP Taenkhun Chit-isara
22nd of January - The Criminal Court on Thursday acquitted two former ministers and a member of the Pheu Thai party of defamation charges lodged against them by former finance minister Korn Chatikavanich
RED SHIRT LEADER;
27th of January - Jatuporn bailed after receiving a two year jail sentence for defaming a former premier in comments made in 2009.
YELLOW SHIRT LEADER;
The Appeals Court upheld the lower court’s 20-year jail sentence on yellow shirt leader Sondhi Limthongkul, founder of the Manager Media Group for falsifying loan documents and fraud.
Ahh, the reds always get a free pass. January has few exceptions to this.
When one side commits most of the crimes logic dictates that that side will be arrested and jailed more often. It is the supporters of that side that scream injustice akin to folk in jail in the west that all feel hard done by and felt they lacked "true" justice.
yawn, ...
That says everything about you TB. Not interesting in the truth when it is so plainly put in front of you. Well said Jamie.

Finally, the perpetrators of the voting card switch are being brought to justice. I was beginning to wonder when they would get around to this. And now, these former 269 ex MPs and senators will get raked through the coals. I hope they at least get banned for 5 years. Maybe charged criminally? Let the show begin.

Perhaps they should listen to what he has to say first. There's plenty of time to get angry afterwards.
I don't think they are angry about what he has to say, but about the processes used to invite him to speak.
but I like your suggestion, is that a policy we should apply to all world leaders or just Israeli?
The three branches of government are separate but equal.
Congress has the right to invite whomever they wish to address their body. Why should they get the permission of the Executive Branch to invite a speaker?
Using your logic, the Judicial Branch might need to request input from the Legislative Branch as to which cases the SCOTUS should hear.
Following that same train of thought, the Executive Branch perhaps should have consulted the Judicial Branch to see if the many Executive Orders and Memoranda were Constitutional before the President signed them.
None of that happened nor is it required.
it is not my logic,I am just telling you why they are angry
Speaker John Boehner showed disrespect to the president – and perhaps cynical political goals – when he invited Netanyahu to address a House-Senate gathering next month. Presidents can't veto congressional speakers, but they usually are consulted. Especially when the speech and the speaker have foreign policy implications!!!!!!!!!!!
as you said the different branches are independent, and do have different functions , Foreign policy is a function of the Executive, and Legislative is the function of Congress,
do you think Netanyahu's speech would have legislative implications or do you think it would have a foreign policy aspect.
If as you said , you support the separation of power, then you surely must reject , Congress's thinly veiled attempt to inject it's self in foreign policy, affect the election in Israel in three weeks!! and in the process score some points with Jewish voters in the US.
Really??? And what about Obama reaching into the area of the Legislative Branch with his executive actions. Obama does this and thinks its OK? Now, Obama is complaining about Boehner inviting a foreign dignitary to speak to the world, through an invite from Congress? Give me a break! Sorry Obama, you brought this on yourself.

I think martial law and military rule are here to stay. The guy has acquired a family heirloom and he isn't going to give it up. lifting martial law would put this a risk.
In a way... but I think they will work over time to ensure there is only one result in elections. I think there will be 'processes and procedures' and a tight running of an election where Thais get to choose any candidate as long as they are yellow.
Hobson's Choice the same with any new constitution referendum and then they will declare to the world 'Look we did it - we have democracy - Thai style'
It will be a pretense wrapped up in a cloak of obfuscation surrounded by BS
And do you believe the previous elections were fair? You seem to insinuate that Thai elections in the past were fair. In my Red village here in Issan, if my family didn't vote red, then they were in a lot of trouble. Do you consider this democratic? The gov't is trying to get rid of all this BS red democracy now. After this old criminal and inept gov't is completely removed, then I don't think they will care about who you vote for. Anyone but red. Thais have learned their lesson and never want to face this scum PT type government again. It's a bitter pill that is needed to facilitate this much need change.

THAI AIRWAYS never get the hint do they? Thai airfares are almost always significantly higher than their competitiors.
Passenger numbers are down 17% for 2014. There are too many discount carriers flying on the same routes as THAI.
THAI cant compete expecially on the Seoul -LA route and most Australian destinations which are now flooded with carriers.
For years hundreds of wealthy Thai families have flown free in business class and maybe even 1 st class with almost unlimited travel. Former Thai execs and their family get
up to 20 international trips per year....for life! PM Prayuth said he was going to shut down all these rorts but did he?
He's entitled to the freebies as well !
THAI is a private airline club subsidised by economy class passengers and tax payers.
The gov will bail it out. They wont let that incompetently run airline collapse.
Its Thailands NO 1 QANGO
I lost my confidence in Thai Airways when I bought an upgrade to business class at Los Angeles several years ago, later that day to be told that the bought business class seats were no longer available and I would get a refund. Seems there was a HiSo that was more important than me and needed my seat. Some way to run an airline.

Smedley I will ask you a simple question .
Is the current military junta legal or not illegal?
Now if it's illegal why should anyone on either side of politics abide by their decisions ?
The Head of State endorsed the PM...so yes, it's legal. Accusing the Head of State of being involved in illegal matters IS illegal. You might want to get your stuttering rhetoric under control or you might just find yourself in prison.
your logic is a perfect reflection of the current fascist LM feeding-frenzy going on in Thailand.
Your rhetoric is not only acceptable to the current regime, your type can even go out and protest in front of a foreign embassy without any fear of retribution.
This is how unbalanced the country has become.
You sound like you are trying to apply democratic practices from western societies and make them fit to Thailand's current situation. They do not fit. Thailand has it's own rules of law and we foreigners must respect that.

Yingluck, the kingdom's first female premier and the sister of former leader Thaksin Shinawatra, is already facing an impeachment vote later Friday over her administration's populist rice subsidy programme, which funnelled cash to her rural base but cost billions of dollars and inspired protests that felled her government.
What is AFP on about? The protesters didn't bring down the government it was yet another illegal military coup under the pretense that it was the only way to bring peace.
"Illegal Military coup"???

"Experts" as in those in the shins pockets, ptp members and red supporters, everyone else in Thailand knows her and her brother need to be necked before they destroy the country
Agree,
the sad part of this is she has shown no real remorse for all the poor farmers that she hurt. Her actions ( or inactions) brought Thailand to it's knees, financially during her reign.
She needs to be held accountable for her inactions. Just impeaching her does not do justice to all those that suffered while she was chairman of the Rice-pledging scheme. She needs to be made an example of, plain and simple.

If you don't mind feeling like you are treated like herded cattle, then Air Asia is fine.
Otherwise Thai Smiles, in my humble opinion.

What part of an English breakfast is that then?I would just like to find a breakfast place in Ubon that knows what an over easy egg is.
My bad, I should have known that this forum is for English breakfasts only. Do the Brits not eat eggs for breakfast?

Check the layover time in China before you buy your ticket. Had a 10 hour layover in Ghouzhou that was most uncomfortable.

I don't give a damn what they sell.
I am more interested in the now 3 months of invoices they have failed to pay us for our products they have been stocking and have now cut off their credit line.
Worst customer we have on the books.
Haven't shopped at Tesco Lotus in 4 years. Agree with you, not a good retailer. But glad to see they stopped selling parrot fish.

Maybe he lost his job. Public schools do not employ teachers once they reach the Thai mandatory retirement age of 60.
He wasn't a public school teacher. He was a prominent professor in the English dept. at Rachapat University. (Had an advance degree.) He will be missed.
We're all born, and go naked. Does it really matter what sort of degree he had? Let him rest, please.
I guess I'm just trying to say he made something of himself in this life, something we tend to overlook when wondering why.

Tourist visa 30 day extension
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Just have to rant about the Thai immigration system.
I am a 73 YO American, married to a dual citizen, Thai/American. I am seeking a 30 day extension to my tourist visa. My wife used her Thai passport to enter Thailand. This afternoon, I went to the Ubon Immigration thinking I was fully prepared to apply for my 30 day tourist visa extension. Strangely, they asked me for copies of my wife's tambon home registration. She did not bring it with her on this visit. I am curious as to what this has to do with me. As a tourist on a tourist visa, why are they wanting to process me using her thai home registration? How would they process me if she was not with me? I have in my American passport several old OA visas which I used when we lived here, way before covid. I had to use my wife's home registration to apply for these OA visas. Could this be the reason they asked for it?
I just don't understand Thailand. We have been waiting over 2 years to visit Thailand again, thanks to covid. Now, after all the Thai businesses suffering due to lack of tourist money during covid, Thai Immigration tries to use these stupid requirements to frustrate us or me. So much for asking for 10 extra days to go to the beaches down south around Krabi. I'm sure all the hotels are too busy and full to worry about tourist who can't get a visa extension.
