  1. It amazes me how often the Police here get a confession, as opposed to Europe. Do they use force of any kind, as if someone was prepared to murder their spouse, I would have thought they would not crack at a police questioning.
  2. As a tourist, I would have thought that this would put the frighteners on anyone-not make them feel secure ! Even those that do not participate in drugs, would not feel comfortable being in a venue when busted by the Boys in Brown. Maybe the new PM will realise this as he is foreign educated.
  3. Many thanks for the detailed information. As a 69 year old Brit, with failing sight, brain and basic facilities, I apologise if my questions have already been covered, but I am still wondering, if I fall foul of any tax laws in Thailand. As you get ancient, the last thing you need is complicated documents each and every year. Your post stated:- UK State pension on the other hand is not covered by a DTA so it is assessable income in Thailand And:- 0 – 150,000 Exempt 150,000 – 300,000 5% 300,000 – 500,000 10% 500,000 – 750,000 15% 750,000 – 1,000,000 20% 1,000,000 – 2,000,000 25% 2,000,000 – 4,000,000 30% Over 4,000,000 35% So does that mean a person over 66 years of age in receipt of UK State Pension, can claim for all of the below ? a. Personal Allowance for self - 60,000 b. Personal Allowance for wife - 60,000 c. Over age 65 years exemption - 190,000 d. 50% of pension income received, up to 100k - 100,000 e. In addition, the first 150,000 of assessable income is zero rated and free of tax a +b +c +d +e = 560,000 Thai Baht As the UK State Pension = £221.20 a week from the new tax year on 6 April 2024. £221.20 x 52 weeks = 506,105 Thai Baht (approx.) Therefore no tax is paid ? What about bringing in money to purchase car or house, is that going to be taxed at above rates, meaning you will need pay 35% on purchase of a house ? and tax on credit card use ?
  4. What about Brits married to foreign nationals ? This is going to affect many who worked overseas and want to retire back in blighty. I for one will not be able to bring my wife back-so looks like retirement and old age alone.
  5. Is the Army still in control ? How does aggressive targeting of foriengers result in appeal to tourists ? I would have thought the opposite.
  6. With the Brics trading bloc just adding 6 more countries with KSA, IRAN and UAE all big oil producers, is chipping away at the USD calling for trade between the bloc using their own currencies. With a further 40 countries waiting to join, I think it is the start of a shift away from the dollar. Over 50% worlds population, more gdp than G7 and 27% of oil production. Difficult to ignore. Maybe the USA should stop sanctioning countries and seizing their assets. The world is turning against a weaponised financial system using the Greenback.
  7. I think the new Government should act immediately to remove the Military and Police unelected Gorvernors that The General installed to keep him in power. They are the main obstacle to peaceful transition. Then go after The General and buddies for unlawful mimitary coup to grab power from a legally elected Government.
  8. Amazing the results were so quick this time, one wonders why it took him 5 months the last time. Lets hope the first thing the new Government does is re-write the Constitution that the Generals wrote to protect themselves, then go after them like they did with lawfully elected Thaksin and Yingluck.
  9. Thaksin (legally voted in PM) was addressing the United Nations in New York when the Army took over and a military funded Court set up to try him in his absence. Found guilty and sentenced. Internationally this is considered illegal. Whether you think he should serve time in prison or not. In my mind the Military Coup and trial in his absence is a far bigger crime. And so was the 2014 Coup and the installing of Police and Military top brass as Governors with voting power 'Prior' to the first election. These'Yes Governers' accounted for 30% of allocated voting. AND it still took nearly 5 months to announce the results. Sufficient time to doctor the results ?
  10. When my wife and I (grandparents) took our grandson to the UK recently, we needed apply for a visa in the childs name which took longer than my wifes. To apply we had to have a letter from the school director agreeing with him being away from lessons. We also needed a letter from Amphur office stating they agreed with him going overseas. These were applied for by both of his parents. Our son and his partner. We also needed agreement consent letters from both parents seperately. These all had to be translated. We also had to do the usual sponsor letter etc We did get a visa for him and went to the UK. HOWEVER, take these documents with you as Check-in and Thai immigration at Bangkok wanted see them even though had visa. AND upon arrival in London. Looks like they checking on possible child trafficking.
  11. Expect a feel good story soon about honest taxi driver handing back something. One usually follows the other.
  12. For all the people that are stating this and that about a type of dog breed. This dog has bit 10 people and now killed someone 'In the Family'. No way can any dog lover debated if the dog should live. It 'MUST' be put down. How the hell can anyone debate this and that about owners and the dog as a bred. This is clearly a killer. DEAL WITH IT !
  13. We own a condo in Amazon and there is no gas appliances fitted. Cooking hob is electric (the new type where you need use specific pans). So if there is any gas in any of the rooms, then that is free standing and put there by the individual owners/renters. If that is the case, it would be difficult to monitor and control that. They do annual fire system testing and give advance warning of such. There are smoke detectors and alarms in the condos and there is a security link up but have not seen any sprinkler system installed (but I could be wrong).

  15. I have just obtained a visa to UK for my wife but had to ask specifically for multi-entry and often they issue single entry which we nearly fell foul of last year, when we needed to return for a family issue. So I would suggest that you make it clear that you wish for a multi-entry just to be on safe side.
  16. I agree that Thaksin is no saint but he is the best of a bad lot and having lived here for 26 years, things were much better for Farang back then. So I personally welcome the news.
  17. Am I missing something or is the poster asking if there is a doctor to confirm if lady is pregnant ? With all the International hospitals here I wonder if he is taking the <deleted> !
  18. This is in the UK press now and obviously it is going to be difficult to get all the facts, but it was mentioned that this guy followed Neil for at least 2 kilometers before having opportunity to over take and stop him to murder him by shooting him 3 times in the 'BACK'. Even road rage would have calmed down in that time. sorry he's got to go down for life or hang him ! Sorry if I got any of the facts wrong, but the end result is the same.
  19. The people of Europe/UK do not want another World War in Europe and the sooner this conflict is resolved the better. Everybody needs to calm down and sit around a table. The last thing anyone wants is the firing of Nukes. There will be no winners in that event.
  20. Even close friends of Putin are mysteriously dying. One has to wonder if this is more likely foreign agents such as C.I.A or Ukrainian special agents. Why would Putin kill his closest allies ? I would have thought he would surround himself with 'Yes' men.
