  1. You guys should stop beating around on Yingluck and blaming her for the current flood crisis. She's just doing the best she can. You guys also don't know where the flood is going or where it will flood in 2-3 days. It's an ever-changing situation. If you guys know, then why don't you share it here? If you don't, then let her do her job.

You should blame whoever designed the drain-off systems and water canals in Bangkok and Thailand in general over the past few decades. Whoever the people are that designed those are responsible, not Yingluck who just became PM this year. Or are you suggesting she dug all the wrong-designed canals herself in the past few weeks?

Even in the times of worst crisis in Thailand, there are people that have nothing better to do than play the "blame it on the Shinawatras" game. Go out and help some people. I know I stood in knee-deep water all day helping others. It makes me sick to come home and read all this crap.

Fully agreed with what you are writing, constructive is to go out and help. I am also tried to read all the armchair "specialists" here.:bah:

  2. I ordered a Kindle with a leather cover with integrated book light online -- for delivery to my sister in the US. She put it in a padded envelope and sent it to me by USPS Priority Mail. "CONTENTS: One Book." Using this method, it came right to my house, no taxes or duty. I would strongly urge you to buy the 3G model. I did with a view to the future, as I live in a place with no 3G. I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered books from Amazon and they started automatically downloading – via 2G (EDGE), which covers most of Thailand. The EDGE downloads were slow, but absolutely free. I have no idea how it works as it had nothing to do with my phone or phone plan. The lighted book cover is wonderful as you can read books when riding the bus or train at night or in bed without annoying your wife or girlfriend. I am a person who said NEVER to electronic books. Then for the same reasons cited by the OP, I gave in and bought one. I love the thing. There are 10's of thousands of free books you can download, many from Amazon. I have been reading out of print classics like Jules Verne, all free.

Another good source is Project Gutenberg, many classics for free

  3. If you are just visiting Thailand and doing business here, then stay at the Conrad which has 50mbps.

Don't get your hopes up. The entire hotel (inclusive their own staff and departments as well as all outside lobby guests) are using this facility. I styaed there for 12 weeks and the wifi was really below par!

I frankly do not know where you should go, I used to have a fast connection via PACNET (via my office) but that sloweed considerably after some time but still 6.000 per month...

I am on True at home now, quite OK if you dont surf during peak hours at night.

  4. :w00t::violin:

Frankly, I would have figured that having some piece and quiet for a while from the wife would have been a welcome development. I sometimes pray they are quiet when I hear their cackling voices...

    1. The house was her house because in Thailand a foriegner can't own land so therefore she was quite right in saying the house was her house.

    2. Sulking, as the OP mentioned, is not a typical asian female trait. It's the trait of someone with the emotional maturity of a teenage highschool girl and it's utter bloody nonsense. Why any intelligent bloke would put up with this for more than 5 minutes beggars belief. If a bloke accepts this as normal behaviour, in a relationship, then you deserve what you get. At the first sign of this nonsense, terminate the relationship because it's not going to get any better.

  5. If you leave small change about in any hotel room, the staff will automatically assume it's a tip. I would think that applies in most countries, not only Thailand.

well, in the last year i have spent over 3 months in hotels, and never has this happened before, and never during any hotel stay during my life. so, from my experience i do not agree with your statement

Ditto for the last 30 years I have been travelling!

  6. I go regularly to Lumpini, rings side seats. I have my secretary order the tickets and am paying 700 per seat nowadyas, tickets delivered to my office directly, no hassle when I get to the stadium.

    :)

  7. It could be that the police suspected that this was a case of forced prostitution where the husband was the pimp. The woman's statement contradicts this and there may be no other evidence that this is the case, but if that is indeed what the police suspected then at least give them credit for trying to do the right thing for once. As for Nana, Cowboy etcetera, what goes on there may be distasteful to some but does not fall into the category of forced prostitution as far as I know.

Huh??? You must not be familiar with the practices in this industry, I would not want to know how much of the girls are forced to begin with. Admittedly, most of them have a hard time giving up their earnings once they get used to it, but believe that there is plenty of forced prostitution going one!!

  8. I can vouch for the good steaks, also nice ambiance, BUT it is not cheap, and not so close to BTS.

Still the best steak for me is top of Landmark hotel, I know it is also cheap but I dont care.

I have heard Artur in soi Tonson has good steak. I have tried all the above and Tenderloins and they all have their good and bad days. Also tried Prime at Millenium Hiton which was good, but the wine was incredibly expensive. Madison at Four Seasons was disapponting for steak though dessert was great.

  9. I am overweight so in need of tailor made clothes. After nearly 2 years in Bangkok I did find Raja to be the best in terms of price, speed and quality. I tried 3 others before and had to throw it away.

Check out Raja's tailor on Sukhumvit Road, Soi 4, opposite the Nana Hotel. Note, they are closed on Sunday. I dont know if B10,000 will be enough as it depends on the material you select. Raja's has a great reputation and it will be a good place to start.

  10. Aha, another one bites the dust...

In fact there are shortcuts but need to be discovered, they do want you to traverse the entire store of course, but look carefully.:P

I agree with AsiaCheese, IKEA has a perfect blueprint from establishing to franchising to construction to motivation to training etc... I lived in Moscow for a number of years and the service in the usual stores is horrible, yet IKEA comes out smelling. Can't wait for the skottbullar.. :)

I must say that I am very impressed with IKEA, the only thing I dislike is that their shops are absolutely huge and laid out so that you have to walk through the whole thing even if you only want to buy one thing

  11. let me get this right cause you are able to find a 13 year old prositute in the United States then it is ok that it is happening in Thailand? Cause there is human trafficking going on in other places it is ok that it happens here? What the hell is wrong with you people? 13 year old girls that were sold to a brothel!! did you read this? it is not people working on there own free will in NANA.........do you have a daugher? a niece? a sister? how would you feel if she was being pimped out at 13 would you be ok with that? would you sell her to me? I do not care what the police motivation is for busting the bar, it is a good thing that it was done, the people that ran it should be punished, the people who sold there family should be punished and the people who knowingly asked to sleep with a child should be punished. Anyone here that chooses to defend these people or there clients are exactly why when you mention Thailand people think of the sex trade. If you are 18 years old and want to sell your body, so be it, far from me to judge, but 13 years old is a child, we need to protect them, educate them not exploite them and defend those guilty of this.

Fully agreed! There is a lot of talking going on, but in the end the point is about the girls being forced to do it. I also agree that living off this as a brothel holder is deplorable.

  12. I certainly agree that it is not the imported booze that is the culprit, here an extract of the Duty and Taxes on imported wines from the US Agricultural department:
