It's actually not too bad. My wife had to go through the process recently after losing her phone. AIS killed the existing SIM and gave her a new one, same phone number, so armed with another phone and the new SIM she was able to set up her bank apps easily enough. I think a different story with a new phone number. -
I can well imagine the conversation at immigration... "You don't have a valid re-entry stamp" - I do, look there it is "No, that's no good" - But Liquorice on AseanNow said it was valid! "Liquorice said, well in that case sir I must be wrong" stamp, stamp "There you go sir, have a nice day" Should I need to travel during the consideration period, even the period before my existing permission to stay has expired, I will be going to the immigration office for a new re-entry stamp. Better safe than sorry.

I would check with immigration rather than take anything said here as gospel. My experience this week says the opposite. As my current extension ends mid May I went to Hat Yai immigration on Tuesday for a new extension. With a new under consideration stamp in my passport I asked this same question, as I wasn't sure if my current multi re-entry permit was still valid, the immigration officer said, no, as I was now under consideration I would need a new re-entry permit.

Depends on what currency you're starting with. If USD then SWIFT is better, most other currencies the margin is wide enough that Wise is the better option. . -

Non-O Marriage Extension - old passport requested
Stocky replied to Stocky's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thanks, that was my thinking but accept the caveat; will take the old one again next year, just in case. -
I've renewed my passport since my last 1 year extension, and had all my stamps transferred by immigration. Today I went to Songkhla Immigration (Hat Yai) to renew my extension, as I was assembling my documents this morning I thought, will they want the old passport? I put it in just in case, lucky I did as they requested it, and copied all the pages from the last entry on my original visa. Is this normal and will it be a continued requirement going forward?

GPS coordinates now required.

Hat Yai has required a Google map with long/lat coordinates for several years, they also request a hand drawn version too. Whatever keeps them happy. . -

As maybe but why, does Thailand need the tallest building, plenty of other priorities I think. -

Why FFS? -
Did my 1 year extension (marriage) today, appointment made via Line for 1pm, got there on time. We were the only customers, all documents as per the latest check list; everything done, signed, and the under consideration stamp given in record time - 50 minutes start to finish. Thank you Hat Yai immigration.

Non o immigration visa Thai wife

Whatever, as said this would be better in the banking section rather than visas, as it has absolutely nothing to do with your extension which was granted, your issue is with the bank not immigration. -
Non o immigration visa Thai wife
Stocky replied to wood78's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yours is rather an unusual case I suspect, if it was solely to highlight the potential pitfalls in repatriating money then perhaps the topic title needn't have references your visa. I think the vast majority of those on a non O marriage extension bring the money over and either leave it on deposit, or spend it through the year. Unless you're very lucky with favourable fluctuations in exchange rate you'll simple lose money coming in and lose money going out. As for knowing the future I would presume, seeing as your original post stated an intention to make Thailand your home, you're going to have to go through this rigmarole again in 12 months which strikes me, personally, as plain bonkers. But each to their own, I would suggest you try Dee Money to repatriate your money. . -

Why send it back? If you're now living in Thailand just spend the money on your living costs, then send money again ahead of when you need to renew your extension. -

There's a good article about Chuwit in Nikkei Asia, dated 6th April 2024, which says "Chuwit, 62, left Thailand late last year for chemotherapy treatment for liver cancer at a hospital in the UK" https://asia.nikkei.com/Life-Arts/Life/The-fast-life-and-slow-exit-of-Thai-showman-Chuwit -
