  1. I have been waiting since July last year to get PEA to connect my Solar Installation to the Grid. Really how long should it take to get this completed?? I am sure it would reduce the demand on the Grid but cant get any action even with the assistance of the Installer. One would think that they would be placing urgency on this to assist the grid but TIT.

  2. I got the same rejection email also. I re-registered under another email address.

Seems that they are going to send all expats the same rejection email, and blame their incompetence in designing a Form correctly on the expats.

I believe the whole fiasco is a smokescreen to suggest they are doing something for expats when they have no intention of fulfilling their moral obligation to foreigners,

  3. Maybe some progress from expatvac. I registered on Aug 2nd and finally received this email from them today. Not the reply I expected and unable to reply to them. So no way to fix the problem due to not being able to work out how to attach the Visa and Passport in 1 box.

Seems they are trying to eliminate foreigners due to a Form they designed which was not clear how to attach 2 photos into 1 box. TIT

  4. I live in one of those moo baans and houses are commonly cracking without any earthquakes......just normal. Moo Baan staff think it is all a joke and spend all day fixing them. The fix involves a bit of filler and a repaint job, now earthquake-proof again.

This has been built by a large and well-known company building Housing Estates and Condos in Chiang Mai.

Have you ever seen them mixing concrete for these buildings ? .........a real eye-opener if you are aware of building construction standards in the West!!!!!!!

  5. I will be arriving in Chiang Mai, Thailand on the above type of Visa early November 2012, for which I meet the eligibilities.

I wish to stay in Thailand till the beginning of August 2013 but then need to return to my home country New Zealand, for business purposes for a period of approximately 6 weeks. I then wish to return to Chiang Mai with the intention of retiring there if I am happy with my situation there.

My understanding on reading comments on TV are that I will be allowed to stay in Thailand till August 2013 with just 90 day reporting requirements and that when I return to Thailand in September/October 2013 I should automatically receive another 1 year extension on this Visa as long as I return to Thailand before the expiry of this Visa.

I presumably would then once again just need to do the 90 day reporting up to the time just before this Visa expires. I will then need to apply for an extension of stay which is when I will have to have the 800,000 seasoned in a Thai Bank Account for 2 months.

Can someone confirm I am correct in my interpretation of the rules, or tell me where I am wrong. Can they also confirm whether I need to get a re-entry permit before I leave Thailand in August 2013 or not.

    Thank you for your assistance

In the line at the store, the cashier told an older woman that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.

The woman apologized to him and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back in my day."

The clerk responded, " That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment."

He was right — our generation didn't have the green thing in its day.

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store.

The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled.

But we didn't have the green thing back in our day.

We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.

But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts — wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that old lady is right; we didn't have the green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house — not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana.

In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us.

When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.

Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn.

We used a push mower that ran on human power.

We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.

But she's right; we didn't have the green thing back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water.

We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.

But we didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service.

We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?

  7. The funds are required in a Thai account if applying for an extension of stay based on Retirement within Thailand using the Capital sum method.

NOT for an O-A Retirement Visa in your home country.

Also remember an O-A visa in your home country requires Police and medical checks, done as an extension within Thailand it does not require these.

Suggest you get an O visa and then Retirement extension once here, much simpler and easier.

    (AFAIK)

I live in Auckland, New Zealand and I want to obtain a Retirement Visa.I meet all the criteria for this Visa but my problem is that I do not have a bank account in Thailand and I cannot open one as I tried to open one when Inwas there in June this year and they told me that they could not open one for me without a Thai Visa in my NZ Passport. One of the requirements for the Retirement Visa is to have 800,000 baht in a Thai Bank Account. If I cannot open a Bank Account in Thailand without a Thai Visa then how can I I satisfy the requirements for getting a Retirement Visa (ie have a Thai Bank Account with 800,000 baht in it) ??????I have contacted the Thai embassy here to clarify the matter for me but they have not replied to my emails or do not answer the question. I am not sure what to do as I have to apply for it in New Zealand but I cannot get the Thai Embassy here to give me any advice.I understand the Retirement Visa gives me a 90 day permission to stay. Do I arrange the Thai Bank Account in this period or does it have to be arranged before I apply for the Retirement Visa???I would be very grateful if someone could advise me of the steps I need tontake as the Thai Embassy here are very unhelpful and do not appear tonwant to assist in any way.Can someone help me please to clarify things for me
