  1. Hi Simon,

I'm in Krabi fairly regularly for business and I stay at J-Hotel for these reasons:

I'm not but 300 meters from the Ao-Nang beach wall where I like to sit and take in a sunset beer (simple walking distance).

They give me an ocean view room with a big bed and massive bathroom.

Room has a deck to enjoy ocean view.

Low season 500 a night high season 800 (on availability).

How do your rates and amenities compare?

    Thanks GOM

    Have a good Sunday

  2. 3rd class is what you describe, 3rd party medical and cars/bikes, bailbond

I think you are right about it being called 3rd class & apparently its the only option for scooter sized bikes under a certain amount of CC's, ie: Im pretty sure they wont do a 1st class policy on a fino. BUT the way I see it, is if everyone else is covered & ur just up for a fino replacement, then sobeit & at least thats a start.

There are limits on the policy like 200,000 baht per person injured up to 10 million baht, bail bond I think was 200,000. Driver on the insured bike also gets some basic coverage, it wasnt all that flash but certainly better than nothing.

    NeverDie,

Could you please tell me where you get this insurance for a 125 scooter type machine as at present I only have the compulsory 3rd party junk. Even at 2000 baht it seems worth it to me.

    Many thanks,

    Mak

Very simple go HERE and you can buy on-line

Sorry, but the online quotations are are big Joke.

After 6 days got those Prices for a 1 Year old PCX today

    Wolfgang

1st Class is 9,008 Baht and 3rd Class is 3,446 Baht.

    Best Regards

    Peter

  3. I think here in Thailand, at Home, due to the Temperatures over here, you can only produce Ham in warm smoke, a kind of cooked Ham, cant keep it very long.

The Temperatures for a cured Ham (air dried, Parma Style or cold smoked) need to be about 4-5C for around 3-4 weeks in Salpeter, Salt and Sugar., if you like to smoke it, smoke Temperatures need to be just over 20 C.

  4. It depends where in Europe you are going too. Sometimes air berlin is cheap, sometimes Gulf Air, Emirates, Air Cairo are cheaper, used all of them and all ok too.

For finding cheap Flights i use flugsupermarkt dot com and found a Flight with Condor, Phuket (i live in Krabi) to Frankfurt for 347 Euro oneway all fees includet.

  5. I would spend $1,000-$1,500 per month -every month- in Thailand.

Then they changed the immigration rules and I left.

I suspect hundreds of thousands to millions of men and women left that were free to come and go as they please.

Thailand should get back to its roots and become a free country again.

    Somebody has really screwed up.

Russian gangsters running Pattaya but the people that supported the backbone of this country with hard currency are the ones that are made to leave.

Change your immigration policies, Thailand.I have lived on a nice island in Indonesia since the Immigration laws labelled me as persona non grata.

    Cheaper,nice people,no alcohol culture.

I miss Thailand but no way will I ever go back until the attitude in the country changes.

    Same for me.

If the immigration laws would make it easier to get a visa for visits,

and especially th retirement visa regualtions, I would be living there now, and spending lots of USA dollars every month.

I don't understand why Thailand makes all things so difficult for farangs, -- they are losing lots of money to help the Thai economy.

What the hack are they supposed to be helping by the carzy (hard) visa regualtions?

Thailand should make visas easier to get, and welcome farangs (and their money) with open arms -- it would halp the Thai economy get richer and better for all concerned.

Why do farangs get no respect, when their presence helps all they come in contact with, by spending lots of money on the Thai economy?

If you do not have the minimum Income or the 800.000 on a Thai account how can you spending lots of money on the Thai economy?

The only Country in Asia i know, you can get a 10 Year Visa for Retirement is Malaysia, still Money on a Bank Account there required. if you like to live in a Muslim Country and Visits from the Muslim Police in your Home.

I think the Retirement-Visaregulations in Thailand are not bad at all, just go to the Immigration Office every 90 days does not hurt.

    Bull.....t

Visa or longterm Visas for Indonesia are far more difficult than Visas in Thailand. Retirement Visas do not exist there. You make visarun every 60 Days ?

  7. I guess America had more to offer - or more to take away from Thailand.

And the post regarding the fairness of the American justice system is laughable. Do a little research and you will see the the reality of the harshness of the sentences that are handed out at random in the 'land of the free and home of the brave'.

I think this one is easy, because in all western Europe country's have a better a more fair justice system. :jap:

Yeah, they let famous directors who drug and analy rape 14 year olds walk freely. You gotta love a system like that.

GIs eyed in alleged rape, murders in Iraq http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2006-06-30-us-probe_x.htm

Ok, only soldiers, (- who drug and analy rape ???? - link plse ?? )

  8. :bah: I think it is a bloody good idea.

The 7 eleven's are a farang's 1st thai home when he finds his away around the out backs of Thailand by themselve for the 1st time. So there may be teething problems like drunk Russians trying to talk English but it is at least making an attempt to allowing English speaking falang to make contact with an English speaking police link when you need most to be to have some one understand you.

Hi guys do somebody thought yet we are living in Thailand and we shd speak Thai instead to complain Thai people can not speak English?wink.gif

Clearly English is not your first language, but i did not know that tourists should speak or learn Thai and not other way around

But we have to learn and speak english as Tourists in London Convenience stores ?

Considering that English is an international language and is language that is spoken by at least 8 countries-yeah YOU SHOULD

    http://en.wikipedia....ative_speakers.

I speak french, english, german, mandarin. And you ? :whistling:

  13. You're lucky you got out of there, the food is pretty vile. Apologies to the owner if he has made an effort to change this recently.

Oh Please, The food is pretty good. The owner is Irish and tries to make it a decent place to have a few drinks.

I think Kevin does a great job in making a decent place to have a few drinks but I have had awful food, and I know other people have said the same. Unless it has changed in the last year, I guess it could have so it's unfair to judge on an experience a year ago. But it was pretty bad!

    and still is:(

  14. Park where-ever you can seems to work best here ! Don't be surprised to find yourself " boxed -in " though.....and beware parking where the taxi Mafia consider their territory! Oh ,and ignore the 2000bt no parking fine signs on the beach roads....the locals do, because the specially designed parking spaces are on the far side of the road from the beach ....not shaded and further to walk !! You should not find a problem with Traffic Police here - there doesn't appear to be any !

yes some of the shopkeepers seem to think the road outside their establishment belongs to them, and of course we have the above mentioned problem with the taxi drivers, but what can you do? except park well away from the beach and then walk.

In high Season i park on the parking of the Ao Nang Villa Hotel.

Nice little walk through the Hotel to the near Beach :-)

Sometimes have a nice Dinner, normal Prices and quiete good, in the Garden Restaurant there.

  15. Well, my fathers also died as they tried to help Spanish to fight against the dictator Franco. Though it did not bring to success, the actions of those Europeans who left their confortable lives in their country to die in Spain are seen, still today, as heroes.

And in any democratic country, a foreigner, even without citizenship, is allowed to speak his opinion in public. What I read in this blog equals the words of any extremist or xenophobist party from France or elsewhere. Foreigners who live in Thailand for long, work here, pay taxes here, sometimes with a Thai child, have a right to take part in what happens in a country they feel is also a bit their home.

I have always been fighting so that foreigners who live in my own country, France, some of the thais there, can be involved in a political life which affect them in their everyday life. Why should I plead otherwise here?

But, the more I read those blogs here, the more I am horrified of the hatred and the extremism of many comments that are made, and generaly against the red shirts' cause. I have read somewhere on a Nation blog of red shirts being called "cockroaches" among other names, and people enjoying at the thought of dead red protesters. Now, the insults go to foreigners.

I am very, very worried for Thailand after reading all this, knowing that some people are having such thoughts and do not feel any shame in expressing them. I have been worried for France after some hatred comments also started to be expressed without restraint, but I must say France is luckily still very far from anything like here.

And I am not a idiot farang, I am educated and I speak sufficient Thai to make interviews with villagers and talk with them about the current political situation. As for knowledge in Thai politics, many lectures at Thammasat University on the subject + readings should do.

If I was not so cowardly scared for my life and my baby, I would join the red mob. Not out of "ignorance", as I have no illusion on the greediness of some, the opportunism of others, and the violence of a few of the protesters. I would join because the majority of the people there are calling for democracy and social justice, and, from what I read in all those posts, even if their knowledge of what democracy is remains insufficient, it is still above the standard of most of those supposed "educated" thais or others who post here.

You are at least 72 Years old ? :) Only a Question as your Fathers died in the spanisch civil war. Sorry to hear. And kind regards to the little baby Baby.

    Peut-être le grand-père
