it is clear enough THai government is making an inventory of who is a farang living where in Thailand and for what purposes.
Nothing more nothing less.
Once The Thai Authorities will have a clear overview rules will adapt to become appropriate.
All transition periods are painful short times and for better long times.
Real issues are land issues leases to go from 30 to at least 50 years.
Permanency of residences to be extended without headaches.
Each one must respect the laws no short cut no deviations and easier to stick to its.

Thai women agenda is very self centered selfish totally money oriented and cruel stealing fathers away from the mixed kids thy have with them initially baited as as a love play for their own benefits cashing out from foreign husbands as per their own patience and grid levels.
So sad explaining why there are so many heartbroken fathers leaving totally mentally ruined absolutely screwed and short of their initial cash........
No dreams the sudden changes arrive unannounced without much reasons......
Though indeed anything they can find against husband is a no welcome back home threat......do not panic go ahead on even legally if necessary.....
Better not to buy a house always being in her name Thai style and to keep a tight budget.....

I came here in Thailand looking for a Thai wife traditional educated meaning not Anglicized or Westernized.
My first question to the chosen one was ; do you understand solutions ? her answer was NO....Do you know problems Yes she said then she got it.....
We started on the basis of solutions and it was like flying above all obstacles....
We got married.
I said we are going to have kids though we are going to be together 20 years..She nearly fainted hearing it.
I took over from grand parents her 4 years old son from Isaan.
14 years later after many solutions offered became unnecessarily problems here we are.
WE had two boys together now 9 and 6 years old.
We are living in Bangkok.
I have refused three times to be offered to pack up and leave.
I have ignored and kicked out her family from our life because I refuse un doers ignorant and suckers.
She set up a business and out of the business she bought herself a large house we all 5 live in, land and home in her own name.
I am a paying guess, I am glad I report each 3 months to Thai Authorities instead of sinking in one of their rice fields and I have a budget.
I do not indulge in stupid excesses like minor wifes, smocking, drinking, gambling, I just carefully monitor all details of our pleasant and easy life.

They are charming as soon as they have accepted to change their skin in my wife case it took her 13 yes 13 years as ignorance is a large handicap I was aware of and like the duck water falling around was not a trouble.

i shipped few years ago everything I had in London and upon arrival here in Bangkok I was contacted by Thai shipping agent in Thailand to answer if I had a working permit or a residence visa. I was then asked to pay what I found very heavy tax duties I refused the amount and I was offered nearly fifty percent discount...I paid I had all delivered everything was intact...the solution is not to bring in any electronics...and it is up to Thai Customs and excise agent to decide the taxes levels...My listing of goods was impeccable..the shipping agent a famous name and my address in a House in Bangkok living with a Thai wife and two boys one was very young....
By the way half of it is still in boxes being useless over here like pictures etc....

OP, get legal advice first---then decide if you want to try to save the marriage or not. At least you will know how to proceed, unless you have built the house on Papa's land, you should be entitled to 50% of everything purchased in the marriage.
Most of all--look after your health if it is to be a long & drawn out battle. Stress is a killer.
Under the usual Thainess the women love to have a whiter skin kid but they hate to share them with any father neither Thai nor Farang therefore the kids never benefit from a father education, the mothers can not feed them and make a living therefore entrust them to grandparents raising them not but rather like pets and or buffalos.
I can advise anyone facing a love story with a Thai woman.
My first of all advice is :
if you are the genuine father implement a NO policy to your wife, put your foot down to impose your standards to get rid of the sub standards ones, be present and have a budget.
Mine ( budget ) has not changed in ten years after having started high to show her commitment with permanence now raising three boys of course the free money she had initially is reduced to none..... ( resulting in not seeing any in laws or outlaws the real undoers !}.
Though English is the language to communicate not Thai / Lao charabia learnt from kids years.

I am a father of 3 boys ( 14,6,3 ), married legally 10 years ago under Thai and French family laws having been invited by my own wife to leave twice after the birth of the latest two, plus afterwards invited to separate twice, witnessed wife and her mother fighting in our house since I refused to see them undong my education but I am a responsible Adult man/father not playing games neither gambling with feelings, i told her to forget about being an other selfish woman, I have not married her family neither her village and instead of nagging she should help to raise the kids with me properly they are the ones in charge neither her neither me and I do not need three pets.
I am paying for monthly mortgage to the House she owns myself I do own nothing in it as I am a paying guest in Thailand and I pay for school fees, plus monthly allowance plus holidays.......
I am happy and better she behaves well fulfilling her life intelligently otherwise no money if only a Thainess minimum and a lot of pains for her and for the kids unnecessarily she will not have the custody for if only half.
Too much stupidity in derelict Thainess now looking forward to the modern Thailand educated future under the smart new PM self appointed so much better than democratically rottenly like in the past totally non existent representative of a democracy with too many ignorant easy to corrupt their votes with THB 400 each.....

The island is still the same island you visited however since the locals are controlling it, by now at the open it is official the island has become death island.
Better you visit from a boat and stay on the boat as venturing on the island feed those savages worse than animals.
Too many murderers happen and are not settled in court properly.
The old story : do not have a flashy/ too sexy/ too rich g/f some one will like to grab her drunk or not and will not hesitate to kill you first then afterwards the woman as well.

Haven't ever had in the past in Thailand the cases of impulsive local men or sometimes foreigners like Burmese boys getting rid of a boyfriend to have a go ( for her gold...to rape her ) to his girlfriend because under the or any other influence this is what he or they wanted on the moment why sadistically ending in the murder of the woman and of course with the horrific killing of the boyfriend, cleared by the same local protective well known corrupt headman and or police policing ?
This couple was beautiful, had friendly encounter in a or several bars, one followed by an argument with a local in a bar then one same or not local could not resist had a go at her horribly killing them, assisted possibly, both of them murdered with evidences.
Burmese sitting playing music heard very little of it.......so violent it looked the ways it happened.
Show us we are wrong with the truth.

I am quite happy with my life in Thailand. I plan on visiting KT on my next long break from work to visit friends.
You are welcome to stay away though.

front seats passenger and driver to tighten their seat belts. ( in London taxis backseat seat belts are compulsory )
kids sitting only in the back seats, tighten belt when available and certainly not standing up is much better.
All locked doors, no arms outside windows especially in Bangkok with so many motorbikes.
No one left inside on his or her own even for a dog a little air is left for its survival.
Driving safe of course it is a must knowingly drivers around are a hazard and a danger DUI included.....
In a Bangkok raxi a driver had his son with him eating snacks and snacks...I showed him to fix his seat belt....immediately the father driving did the same...soon later the boy started to throw at his father things...I told him not a playground but a taxi car.
The boy unlocked his seat belt the father did the same I asked him to stop him I payed and jumped in an other taxi.
I now the father had to nanny his son and for the son to stay in a car with his father for so long under the heat and certainly not used to seat long hours it was not easy but order please the passenger is feeding the family and requesting some safe drving.
Life goes on.
Still more dangerous to drive a car to airport than to fly airplanes...

How many similar cases we have had already with shot guns at Green Mango etc....The fight between Reggae Pub and Green Mango ended up by Reggae Pub to have been burnt down....Of course locals are hating the foreigners having a good time forgetting they are the ones feeding them with cash, security guards are irrelevant also dangerous themselves, the police non existent totally corrupt.
Those who know never return and the new ones arriving have to be informed they can be caught wrongly and deadly for any even minimal issues.
Watch out this is a tropical jungle where humans and wild all sizes animals reign whom you can not differentiate from ones or the others.

This latest murder is similar to previous ones always foreigners becoming friendly with locals in a bar, night club, what ever and the girls attracting the bestial instinct of those animals not only raping them but killing them for no reason other than to satisfy their thirst to get a foreign girl.

You are facing walls as like a snake in a tube it is always a snake.
The Thai genes are too strong every ones ( grd parents, siblings, neighbours etc... ) are on their side, undoing what ever you are yourself doing.
I am caring for a 14 years old boy the past ten years running. In fact he was 110 % Thai when I took him away from grd parents whom were not raising him other than like a buffalo, I sent him 4 years to international school etc...and today I can tell you he is still 95 % Thai absolutely stubborn and never having had an evidence of his intelligence showed to me because he is stupid ( of course nice and smiling when necessary as a mask ).
I have two other boys on our own with my darling of ten years wife and this is a charm especially since all the grd parents, siblings etc... have been excluded from our life.
At the age your steps sons are only the Army can provide you with a solution enroll them by force if necessary or no more support, you are not running a charity neither being a perpetual ATM and let it be.
Be yourself more selfish than they both are for your own survival.
Not enough has been done prior reaching this level of ruined feelings.
My step son going on his 14 years, nearly kicked out one year ago from our life never listening, never actuating rightly, hugely self centered, now soon 14 years old he is deprived of smartphone, stopped to wear fancy logo black mainly t shirt, has to wear proper shoes and to look educated with his behavior not being so much like a farmer in town....hopefully going to join the Thai Navy when 16 years old ( boy scout he learns nothing ).
I took over the power, leaving my wife to be happy her ways, only 3 years ago ( my ways or no ways...forget derelict Thai culture we live in a modern still outside Bangkok yes a third world country ) from any one else in my own family ( grd Pa, grd Ma excluded full presence ) with stricter rules and the house is clean, the boys sleep well, no TV, limited tablet use, ball games, are not typical Thai boys we are told when meeting Thai people - the least we do the best - international nationalities are a lot of fun ! ).
Your two boys have to live separately to stop to feed each other with continuous stupidity, help your wife, their mother has to earn their full respect regardless of your promiscuity with her ( i live in a separate bedroom for avoiding sex related gossips ) and they must be firmly educated with punishment.
You are as parents responsible for their behaviour but in a land of free spirit for all, nothing is important, nothing matters other than every one united is begging for farangs money though no honey no money.
Never give up Love is a strong cement, but never yourself to surrender to young boys shitting on your head as you are right and you are the Tree under which your wife and the two boys are very lucky to benefit from its shadow,
Review it all with your wife and for nothing to change everything has to change. Go for it as the NO over here is extremely efficient enhancing your position showing you have earned their respect when no one smile any more when meeting you and boring people have become ghosts.
My wife has changed her skin for the best.......I punish seriously the boy ( him learning sorry and thank you ) and I stick to my punishment not bending it at all never hurting him physically when I should have had done it ( no harm in education ), my wife only actuating it by herself on him more than 6 years so difficult he was.

It is sad nothing change with those islanders.....many cases before !
