Maybe her "duff" and other parts of her body does not reside in Bangkok. Maybe travelling to the center of the Thai universe is somewhat difficult given it is a hot bed of Covid infection and travel there is problematic. As my father told me, if you have nothing good to say, then best say nothing.

    Exactly - well said.

Amazing how rude and unfeeling some posters are...

Many people had that problem during the first 2 hours the site went live.  Basically should happen normally is you enter your email address, it saves it (with blank details), then sends you an email with a link to continue the registration process.   The first thing is to check your email and check your spam folder and make sure it has not sent the email later.

What happened with me is I tried signing up with a couple different addresses over an hour and a bit and received an error.  Finally a couple hours later I tried my final email address I rarely use and it worked and did not give an error and it sent me an email link.  I then filled in the details.   I then started to receive emails from the other email addresses an hour later (not sure if the programmer started manually starting a process to send emails).  I would say keep trying new email addresses in the mean time every hour or so and keep an eye on your inbox and spam folders of your other email addresses.

    BKKCANUCK8,

    Thank you for your encouragement!

After several hours the last email that i used worked.

Then I filled out the form which required some patience... as I had to upload two files - I finally figured out how to combine as a PDF and was able to upload that.

I am in Chiang mai and look forward to a local appointment and hopefully get Pfizer!

    Thanks again

  4. I registered my email address and selected the first category and was prompted to enter my email address again - received an error message that my email was already taken...

Tried again with a different email same results.

    What should I do now?

For years I have eaten every week (almost!) at 'Butter Is Better' along Chang Klang near Pantip Plaza - near to the traffic lights.

I love the food, and the staff there are friendly, helpful and very professional. It also has a car park! Excellently run. 'Homely' and inexpensive.

Run by charming Thai lady and great American guy. Many Americans eat there.

Mac Cheese is on the menu, although I've never eaten it.

I'm willing to bet that all their food is very good. Many American dishes, of course. Home made, naturally.

    Fill yer boots, mate!

    Agreed good food

There is nothing illegal about working while on a Non-O Visa based on marriage to a Thai, and one can get a work-permit in this case.

I assume the problem is you did not get a "work permit" - although you could have, except for the lack of a degree-proof?

If so, the problem is not with immigration, but with the labor folks.

Exactly and if so you and your employer are in the wrong but worst of all if you had done things correctly you would have been paid more...

When you work without a work permit you lose the high ground...

A director may or may not be involved in the day to day operations of a company.  This is why I think this new work permit rule is confusing.  Does it cover (a) only the activities that a person performs as a director (i.e., attending board meetings, singing documents) or (b) does it also cover day to day management of the company.  The latter is generally considered work, and I can't tell if the latter is still subject to the work permit requirement.  And I wouldn't base my decision about this on something Sunbelt publishes on their website.

    Exactly - I am seeking real-life examples.

A director can be on a board but I really hope that directors are working and very hard at that...

Directors can also be department heads such as marketing director.

For myself, a work permit is not an issue as I get them every two years and pay someone a fee to do all the paperwork - very easy.

But not having Thai shareholders could be a useful planning tool.

Many restrictions as well on what the company can do in the way of busines.

    Google

    Amity Treaty Rquirements.

    Cannot own land

Cannot be involved in transport, agriculture, comm's plus plus.

Seems it really just makes it easier for an established USA Company to open a branch office in Thailand provided it's business is not on the restricted list.

Yes the no land part is not good.

  9. 2 hours ago, ubonjoe said:

That is not correct. The Amity treaty only allows a person to own 100% of the company.

Not sure about that per Sunbelt work permits are no longer needed for the labor/employment department

    https://www.sunbeltasia.com/amity-treaty-americans-can-qualify-for-no-work-permit?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4pGYlLSE3QIVWUkrCh36zQqgEAEYASAAEgJISfD_BwE

But I am not sure which is why I am looking for real life examples.

  10. If you had used DHL for example you simply provide a new invoice and they submit it for you - done.

With the post office the idea is the same but you need to do everything yourself.

You need to document the correct duty rate and get an adjustment made.

You can do it but it will take time an energy.

So it sounds like you are being overcharged about 4000 baht.

Is the time and energy worth it?

    Good luck!

My son's school has 4 privately owned Toyota vans for pickup, school trips, etc.

They are all 2 years old or newer, good tires,(I check)

The american teachers that ride in it say the drivers if anything are too conservative, which I like.

I've seen them drive when I pick my son up and they are all good responsible drivers.

So he does go on the school outing, he wouldn't if I didn't trust them.

    Private school BTW

Sounds like a good situation and probably OK - anything less and I would not even consider letting my kids go in an unsafe situation - even though our school is similar to the above post I drive the kids to school daily and only let the kids go on the occasional field trip. For sports events again I will drive.

Nothing is more important than the safety of children - end of story...

If I was in that position, I would simply maintain 2 bank accounts outside of Thailand.. Fill account A one year, fill account B the next, and only take money into Thailand from the account which was not being filled that calender year.

Simple, easy to verify, and provably not 'earned in the year it was remitted'.

    Clever thinking!

  13. "If the money was earned the calendar year before the one you transferred it to Thailand, it will not be an amount taken into consideration for as a taxable income in Thailand.
If the money was earned the samr calendar year that you transfer the money to Thailand, it is considered an amount that shall be taxable in Thailand."

Basically the above is what I have always understood to be true - with some exceptions.

I think the concept is simple the money from a prior year is savings not income.

In a company/business like this you would have little to no chance of getting a Labour office to apply the two Thai employee ratio.

The rule is aimed at husband/wife run businesses and these days probably only granted to small husband/wife businesses.

Husband/wife business is not a requirement - from experience in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

I am not aware of any rules regarding the size of a company - can anyone confirm current rules or are there no rules anymore as another poster stated?

Perhaps another province may be different?

When my wife formed her company a year ago, she only had to have 1 million baht in declared capital and have two Thai employees (including her as MD) for me as a foreigner to be granted a work permit. It has just been renewed for a further year in the easiest and quickest interaction I have ever had with a government department here at the Ministry of Labour in Chiangmai.

    Correct - from experience.

Normally in Chiang Mai you can get a 2 year work permit but not always and not in every province...

Note in Chiang Mai your company does not need to be in the VAT system but in other areas the rules acn be different.

The only carrier I have used in Thailand that has either not issued a LARGE import tax, or at least a reasonable one,, is Thai Post,, all the other shippers, Thai customs will NAIL you on import taxes,, EVEN if you supply them with an accurate, honest invoice as to the items actual value,, they are thieves,,, I had a watch I returned to the sender for repair, After repair, the sender used Fed-Ex to return it to me, They included a receipt for the repairs, and what was done,, Thai Customs hit me with a HUGE import tax for it because they claimed it was undervalued,, $300,000 Baht import tax,,,, it was accurately declared, I included a retail price for it, a copy of my invoice, from receiving it originally thru Thai Post, with the Thai post's import tax on it I had paid,, as well as an original receipt from Thai post when I shipped it back to the supplier to be repaired, with the declared value on the receipt when I shipped it back, proving to them that it was already in Thailand, and was a personally owned item, They only saw $$$ and wanted it,,, I had to go back to the Customs department at Swampy 4 times, to argue it, they kept lowering the amount, I asked if I refused it, would it be sent back?, they claimed that it would NEVER be returned, to the sender, at first, that it would be destroyed, So I said I wanted to watch them destroy it, or proof of it being destroyed as in a smashed up watch,, because I KNEW it would end up on the wrist of a Thai customs agent otherwise, and told them that,,, They then claimed it would be returned to the shipper, I asked for a receipt to PROVE it had been shipped back, so I could provide that to the shipper, "No, can not do" So I asked how could I be SURE it would either be destroyed, or returned, I only got sheepish smiles from them, On the 4th trip to Swampy, I took my Thai wife with me,, SHE ended up getting into a slightly heated argument with them over it,, She ended up getting them to drop the imported value down to the amount that I had paid when it was shipped thru Thai Post,,  $1600 Baht,, which even then was wrong, as it had already been paid the 1st time,, ONLY use Thai Post, EMS when shipping items in,,,

I was under the impression that you needed to provide documentation and fill out forms when you export for repair not fight customs on the import.

It is quite possible that you ignored the law and they were simply doing their job?
