  1. As with many things in life you get what you pay for. Breakfast - especially a fulfilling one - is no exeption. You simply cannot demand such a meal for under 200 THB. Many years ago we lodged after trying many other hotels in Pattaya in tha Avani whie on holidays if in Pattaya..They have a very good breakfast. But it now might be above 1000 HB. When I say good I mean all European standards like cereals, saussages, egg station (poached eggs may be ordered), but as well a japanese corner, a Thai corner, fresh juices and fruits and maybe indian curries. If the Avani does not suit you, there is Casa Pascal just opposite. Famous for a reason. The best setting we ever had was in the Centara Grand in Hua Hin with its quiet nice garden where the birds sing. Drawback: they givve you Allowrie as butter as many others do. The most vast selection I have ever seen was in the Amari Watergate. You better bring your roller scates. Its a bit leaning towards indian (the owner is Indian) but a bt chaotic and not so clean. Conclusion: budget 1000 THB+ per person and when carefully selected, you will get a perfect breakfast
  2. Rules as of April 1 incllude as well the permission to keep 50 grams at home. No idea what the Thai administration thinks of this. I do not think this is a April 1 joke. It is all over the internet and in my online-publications.
  3. Unfortunately true. Even worse, in a lot of other countries tomatoes seem to have lost their expected rich flavour as well. For example in Switzerland. I guess you have the best chances in Italy. I suppose this might be because of the disappearance of older varieties. By the way - never seen a really tasty orange here, too. THe tasty ones are from Spain.
  4. Absolutely depends on your lifestyle and where and how you live. Alone or with a wife and children(if you have none of these - just wait), even probably further family members. They tend to take more than to give. And as you are getting older your money spent for the hospital will surpass money spent in the bar or eating out. Do not underestimate the hospital bills - I speak from experience. Plus inflation. Plus tax. Unfortunately.
  5. Why I do not have a like button in the lower right corner anymore if I post ? See attachment. Thanks Moogradod
  6. We are always striving for the best, the best hotels, the best food, the best wine etc. How about a contest for the worst (really existing) food ? There used to be an institution called "The not so terribly good club of great britain" and to be a member you had to demonstrate that you were exeptionally bad at something. They sometimes invited members to demonstrate their inabilities on stage. They soon had to close down because according to their own statues they were too successful. But we could make a list of the worst food, starting with a dish that let you vomit by the pure looks of it up to last place where you needed hospital care (Psychologist or Gastroenterologist) after yoyu had the pleasure to taste it. Cheeze wiz on wine is a strong contender in this list I suppose. And the breakfast beans etc......
  7. To take any antibiotics on your own is the very worst idea. And did I interpret some posts correctly ? 42 degrees Celsious body temperature ? WIth that you could hardly even get to a hospital which you should immediately.
  8. I do not remember the last time I was there.
  9. You want a European Style hat but at a reasonable price. There is a bit of contradiction in that. A hat that you desire might only be available at a higher level store - probably expensive. Otherwise just use a Thai bamboo hat that the rice farmers use available in Vietnamese Style (like a conus) or with a flat top. Maybe you try first at Central. There might be tailors that offer a hat as well. Good luck.
  10. Korean cars may be cheaper but the forerunner of technical innovations has been Mercedes Benz for many years (I think they invented as well ABS, but not sure). Benz is regarded as one of the best cars worldwide, at least for the higher spec Benz's. The lower specs which are mostly found in Thailand are not living up to the name. Starbucks is a catastrophe. US originated. I more and more do not understand American things. They make the best smoked ribs in the world but after that a large vacuum unfolds as discussions here on AN and in the news show.
  11. The metric system is recognized as the standard (like in physics etc.). This is not the first mistake because of this misunderstanding. Once a whole rocket was lost. Time to change to the same standard worldwide, although it would take many decades (just think of the steepness of all the screw threads)
  12. To name Chinese as the worlds best kitchen seems to me a bit far fetched. How about the Japanese and French *family trees". All from China and Persia ? My favourite food by far is Sushi.
  13. Excellent post. One of the few I can take seriously in this thread. Best pizza I ever had was in Bari, opposite Naples. It was a simple Margherita.
  14. Just google "Sicily Lake Maprachan". They have a professional website. I have as well to apologize. They have indeed a Pineapple Pizza on the menu. Maybe the owner has changed or I have always overlooked it
  15. "Sicily" at Lake Maprachan, Darkside. However if you order a pizza with pineapple, they politely might suggest that you leave.
  16. OK, easily said. Serious question: What would you do if you are stuck on the highway or in a place without toilet and suddenly Montezumas Revenge would strike you heavily ?
  17. Most of Thai Food must be hot - it is designed that way. Depends of taste and accomodation, of course but I found a way to determine the right spicyness: The pharyngual zone must feel burnng in its entirety. Then it is right for me. Order "not spicy" is not appropriate. For papaya salat they usually ask the number of chillies (which may be extremely differently spicy) Thai have thier standards for that: When they order 5 chillies the cook knows what is desired. They lack this sensitivity if cooking a steak. It is advisable to order bleu resp. saignant to get even close to how a steak should be cooked. Missing experience, that's all.
  18. I did not read all the posts but let me sum up an important issue. If you are rich = no boring (or you do something terribly wrong) regardless where you stay (excl. South Pole maybe) and if not rich = not necessarily boring. I know some monks who own zero but still are happy.
  19. You would not believe it but I have contemplated this idea before ! Instead of paying for the pizza I would then go for an expensive wine
  20. I would like to buy the least sexy underpants - Obelix Style. I hate to pull up the pants all the time. And those are indeed very difficult to find. I have asked my tailor to make me some custome size, but he rejected. Maybe I can find any flexible tailor that would do it ? Suggestions ?
  21. It makes alsways sense to define the item under discussion until a consensus is reached. In this case a pizza. For me that means a Neapolitan Pizza which calls for imported ingrediants, like real Mozarella, Olive Oil, Carciofi etc. I find that under these conditions, a pizza is surprizingly cheap here. I would rather like to pay the double prize, if they were not so stingy with the size of toppings, which they must be given the exuberant import taxes. This is as well true for any other dish in a restaurant. The real ingredience is the biggest cost driver.
  22. Works with Chrome. I am using Firefox with DuckDuckGo plus a number of Security Add-ons. I will see if I can get Chrome configured to my liking and use it only then for accessing "View New Content". But this is a workaround and should not be necessary. Before it worked perfectly incl. Add-Ons and Firefox and DuckDuckGo.
  23. This is the end of the list I see. The button "Load more activity" at the end of the list does not work. If I disable "NoScript" it shows at least the same short list again. These effects were all not present before your maintenance. I get as well a pop-up for a newsletter request, which I filled up.. But I get no newslettter, either. Many things do not work anymore the way they usedd to.
  24. Why is the mentioned list suddenly so very short. Goes back some minutes and that's it.
  25. 1. How come you know about the extra section ? 2. To what mailing list will they then send the information or request for filing ? 3. Just in case: Has anybody have the adress of a Top-consultant who could hold my hand if it would come to more complicated discussions with the Tax authorities (which I do not really expect, but the new people hired per tax district (what is a tax district ? Amphoe ?) have obviously not much experience since they just started
