  1. My gf isn't like that...

But when I recently borrowed her mobile and incidentally pressed the 'redial', a Thai bloke answered. On inspection, it transpired it is her cousin's phone no., so nothing to worry about. I knew already she spends a lot of time with her cousin when I am not here, and I even gave her B 20.000 when all her cousin's belongings were washed away during the Tsunami. But I was under the impression her cousin is a woman.

Now, I don't want to sound overly concerned, but after all the stories I read about in TV, I wonder if anyone is familiar with Thai culture to give me some advice? Can I trust her or do I have reason to be concerned?

  2. I always advise my friends to stay away from the 'gentlemen' who populate the girlie bars, make empty promises and more often than not left a string of broken hearts behind whereever they've been before. Thais should not shy the expense of a private investigator to find out the personal history of a potential partner and ensure there are no skeletons in the cupboard.

  3. Update:

Divorce completed. Cost: B3000 for lawyer, B350 for new ID-card and driving license.

We had quotes of B3.000 - B20.000, and settled for the friendly non-English speaking guy near the court in my gf's hometown. :o

  4. What's the obsession with 'truth'?

Unless I finance her life or mutual vows of being faithful are made, I don't even ask what she's up to. In my experience, Thais are even less likely to reveal potentially embarrassing and damaging information than westerners. I think udon is on the right track, imagine what you would say to 'save your face'? It's not such an alien 'Asian' concept, really. :o

  5. Troll:

A supernatural creature of Scandinavian folklore, variously portrayed as a friendly or mischievous dwarf or as a giant, that lives in caves, in the hills, or under bridges.

You would indeed know a troll when you saw one, but modern means of communication render tried and tested methods of visual identification ineffective.

In this day and age one needs to apply other cognitive processes for troll spotting and terminating, thus internet scientists developed the following definition:

On the internet, troll is a slang term used to describe:

      1. A post (on a newsgroup, or other forum) that is solely intended to incite controversy or conflict or cause annoyance or offense. (Many posts may inadvertently cause strife as collateral damage, but they are not trolls.)

      2. A person who posts these.

    :o:D
  6. Heres a good test for all the farang tossers out there who rave on about Thai cooking, try cooking the same Thai dish with a little oil and no spices, no oyster sauce, no fish sauce, no suger, just the rudimentary ingredients and a little oil, see how it tastes now after being 'cooked' in a wok for 4 minutes flat.... yeah exactly, tastes like flavourless meat n vegies doesnt it..

Of course it tastes just as bland as sliced carrots or cauliflower boiled in water for hours, that is exactly the point.

Anyway, English food can be delicious, but tends to be a major let-down when its not done well, one needs to be selective about the venue.

Some posters idea of 'fair' criticism is rather curious, I used to have the odd spell of 'doc-bashing' myself, but some comments here seem to dish out insults rather than voicing critique.

  7. Are we compensating for a lack of fire power below the old belt here?

That is how wars get started. Too much debilitating junk food in Jesusland, I guess.

  8. Darknight=supermoderator? :o

So he finally met the doc and 'sponsored' a few Cabernet Sauvignot? Or is it the usual strategy of regimes assimilating dissent by dishing out priviliges? :D

BTW, what happened to the V.I.P. room? Got demolished shortly after D.K. joined the mod team?

Congratulations and happy life hereafter, Darknight! :D

  9. I am sorry, didn't mean to cause offense. Merely playing with stereotypes, and Boon Me took the bait... :o

I believe there is a wide range of opinion held by Canadians, although, as a nation, they are not set on the idea of spreading their views across the world by military force, unlike their neighbour. I was also responding to the hypothetical scenario of the US invading Canada, which was also a jest.

It is hypothetical, right, Boon Me, isn't it? :D:D

  10. It doesn't indicate that the sort of trust one would expect from a long term intimate relationship has been built up. Then again, better to find out sooner than later if there are any sceletons in the closet. My gf revealed her criminal records, but didn't tell me she is married until last month, 6 years into the relationship. She's in her province sorting papers out now, which is why I am in a bad mood and sitting in front of the computer screen on New Year's eve.

  11. Despite a string of "British" restaurants opening in the city this year, New York's traditionally adventurous diners are proving reluctant to embrace the notion that British food can ever be more sophisticated than fish and chips, say restaurateurs.

Many Americans associate British food solely with pub food and, in a city offering hundreds of national cuisines, they still have trouble with the idea of a "British restaurant", she added.

The term "British restaurant" is an oxymoron, so is "British cuisine". Which language does 'cuisine' originate from? :o:D

  12. I have a very very dear girlfriend who has signed up to go to Ghana and work

at hotel there in their spa as a masseuse. She has gone tru courses arranged by Ministry of labour in Bangkok for the last two months to have papers to show she is qualified, and the agreement has been made tru same office.

Just to remind Pudgi of the initial post, before he dribbles another 5 pages about job opportunities for this highly experienced "professional Thai massage therapist". :D

    And here Julius's last post:

I'll stop her, its good , thank you all for your contribution

Good to have a forum like this

    Dagfinn

Now in Norway , but later    .........    Thailand , here we come

Let's hope he'll share the story here later. :o
  13. Strange 'reasoning' on your part, arsch. :D

A Thai friend was refused a Shengen visa in London (he only had a tourist visa to UK) for a day trip to France!
There is no one day Schengen Visa to France, the procedure is the same as for applying to stay in a memberstate for several months. :D

I find it very useful to share information about visa practises and interpretations at different consulates, but I am getting tired of the constant 'it is unfair', 'Thai logic sucks', '3rd world corruption' comments. :o

Okay. You were inconvenienced. But as others have pointed out, it is Thailand's right to do this. I have encountered this in other countries too (not just Thai embassies). So get over it.
    This sums it up.
  14. CommieDemo interests benefit from illegal immigration.  IIs receive more in government benefits than they ever pay in  via sales taxes or gas taxes.  They add to the number people relying on the government for assistence.  CDemos need people on the system to justify their existence. They need more and more people on programs so they can point to the failure of the US form of capitalism.  Uneducated IIs when they become citizens will surely not become Repubs.

    ...

CommiesDemos benefit from the swelling in numbers of the poor and  the uneducated.  That is their fan base.

Weak centrist party!  Another laugh.  Any one knows a good commie moves like fishes in the current.

    :D:o

Where did you dig this load of horse dung up? :D

    Fox news or free.republic? :D:D
