    I hope that's true.

The numbers are in line with the latest information collected in China. Though I haven't read the actual report it was cited in BMJ a couple of days ago:

    Quote

Chinese authorities began publishing daily figures on 1 April on the number of new coronavirus cases that are asymptomatic, with the first day’s figures suggesting that around four in five coronavirus infections caused no illness. Many experts believe that unnoticed, asymptomatic cases of coronavirus infection could be an important source of contagion.

A total of 130 of 166 new infections (78%) identified in the 24 hours to the afternoon of Wednesday 1 April were asymptomatic, said China’s National Health Commission.

    You're welcome.

According to La Repubblica, a study by Carlo La Vecchia (renowned epidemiologist) and Eva Negri at the Milan State University now shows that the number of infected individuals in Italy probably is at least ONE HUNDRED times higher than official numbers. According to this study, at least 5 million people in Italy are already infected, but it COULD be as many as 20 million (a third of the population).

Unless there's been a huge and inexplicable change since Mar 17, your version of the story is incorrect.

Aggressive testing helps Italian town cut new coronavirus cases to zero

The first testing round, carried out on the town’s entire population in late February, found 3 per cent of the population infected, though half of the carriers had no symptoms. After isolating all those infected, the second testing round about 10 days later showed the infection rate had dropped to 0.3 per cent.

Importantly, however, this second round identified at least six individuals who had the virus but no symptoms, meaning they could be quarantined. “If they hadn’t been identified, the infection would have resumed,” explained Prof Crisanti.

What the story of this village actually illustrates is the effectiveness of testing and isolating those who test positive.

Thanks for pointing out this error. The 3,000 infected citizens of Vó was discussed in Italian news telly on Saturday morning. I have done some research and as you correctly point out, it appears this is incorrect.

  4. At the current rate of infection, It can be questioned how long the Italian epidemic will be able to sustain itself. For instance, they tested 3,000 people in the village of Vó in Padua and every test was positive. They were ALL infected. Every one of them! More than likely, this virus has been present for some time and it is clearly viciously contagious. At some point, the virus will run out of bodies to infect, just as in Vó. Give it another month and the citizens of Vó will be out of this nightmare.

Unfortunately, I believe every single country will have to go through what the italians are currently experiencing.

    Good morning from France,

Just rest a little bit and you'll feel better.

Thanks for your informative contribution to this thread, the issue is crucial.

At least my idea of "informative contribution" doesn't include falsely accusing others of "french bashing". As you did when I asked what the EU did to assist Italy:

    Quote

"My opinion is that French bashing is not at the scale of the issue."

And then there's of course falsifications of quotes, you won't be seeing me making informative contributions like that. I'll simply leave that to the liars, how embarrassing they may be. We know who they are, don't we?

"China has requested additional humanitarian goods and medical supplies from the European Union. Face masks, protective gloves and clothing will soon be delivered to China, according to the European Commission. So far, Germany and France have already delivered protective gear to China.

    and so did Italy."

    Just stop.

Absolutely not, AND this is not an argument, these are facts.

    Too hard to cope with?

    Here are the facts:

    Your post:

"China has requested additional humanitarian goods and medical supplies from the European Union. Face masks, protective gloves and clothing will soon be delivered to China, according to the European Commission. So far, Germany and France have already delivered protective gear to China. and so did Italy."

    The real post:

"China has requested additional humanitarian goods and medical supplies from the European Union. Face masks, protective gloves and clothing will soon be delivered to China, according to the European Commission. So far, Germany and France have already delivered protective gear to China."

You added "and so did Italy". You manipulated the quote to support your weak argument. And then you denied it. And then you lied about it.

    Good grief...

    Stop. Just stop.

i added the information the line below.

    Post n024 , I first inly shared the li,k https://www.dw.com/en/eu-crisis-center-monitors-coronavirus-outbreak-offers-aid-to-china/a-52344944

As you obviously did not read, I then after quoted the part in response.

And added below for your comprehension and knowledge that Italy did also help China.

You are judgemental on topics you are poorly informed of, and do not care to search to understand even when given infos.

You manipulated the quote to support your arguments.

    Just stop.

from the link I shared previously in response to you, quote ; " China has requested additional humanitarian goods and medical supplies from the European Union. Face masks, protective gloves and clothing will soon be delivered to China, according to the European Commission. So far, Germany and France have already delivered protective gear to China.

    and so did Italy."

Unfortunately, when later Italy was in need due to the spreading of the pandemic, no country could help and had to keep the goods  for themselves, the needs are so huge, nurses and practicians in hospitals don't even get enough protection. There is nothing the EU could do further right on. Usually we get the masks from China.

The alleged quote is falsified. You shouldn't manipulate quotes to make them support your arguments.

    Pathetic.

And I answered; as other posters did in former threads mentioning the funds, but as you are obsessed with the EU, you keep repeating yourself.

    Stay safe and good luck.

Oh...I thought you got going on "french bashing". Especially since that's what you accused me of.

    Some people...

My opinion is that French bashing is not at the scale of the issue.

In early February, no-one outside of Asia thought there was a serious threat for the rest of the world.

    So sharing was possible.

Maybe you know that the protective equipment are "made in China" mainly. And no country has enough masks etc.. now. Even in hospitals.

It's easy to blame by ideology

Italy has given the gift of it's experience to its neighbours , including accross the Channel, so say thank you.

My initial question was: And what did the EU do?

If the answer is "nothing", why don't just say so?

French bashing...? What on earth are you on about?

  11. 1 minute ago, Opl said:

You can only share what you have, France sent protective equipment to China, now China helps France in return.. and so did Italy, Germany, etc..

    What do you expect?

Oh...France sent protective equipment to China..? I didn't realise... Sorry my bad. Italy should be ashamed of themselves.

First Italian cases were due to some old Italian codger who went to China, and then brought the virus home and spread it to his old geriatric buddies in the sports bar that they always hung out in.

Allegedly, the Italian outbreak began when a man who suspected that he had been infected with the virus seeked medical care at the local hospital. He was first sent home. A couple of days later his condition had worsened and he went to the A&E and this is where it all went horribly wrong.

    Quote

According to reports in the Italian media it took four contacts with doctors before the man was eventually tested for coronavirus, and then only after he had spent 36 hours at a hospital in Codogno before being put under isolation, a period during which he infected a number of other people.

I can see five as well, but I actually had to look really hard. I have marked them out. I might have missed a couple.

Gender statistic is available for migrants arriving by sea to the EU. For 2015 the number was 83% men. I struggle to find similar data for migrants arriving on foot. If we disregard how they arrived, the number is 63% men.

I provided a snapshot into the world of reality and facts. I even provided a link.
