  1. I registered for the vaccination on the Chiang Mai site using my passport number as ID. Everything went smoothly and I received an email that I would be notified of the time and place for my shot. I received a second email asking me to get a 13 digit ID by entering my passport ID. When I entered my passport ID I was informed that there was no such account. I tried to register a second time but was told that I was registered already. Not sure what to do next.

Coming from Chiang Mai turn left at the last set of traffic lights before Kad Farang. Then follow the map. The first right turn is after about 800 m. The total distance from the traffic light is 2.0 km

  3. I buy my fruit and vegetables at Bantawai market every Wednesday. Today I was very surprised to find nearby a new restaurant in the middle of nowhere. It is a Mexican restaurant called Tex Mex. The restaurant is huge (seats more than 60) and brand new. It's in a very quiet area and would be perfect for a large group celebration for people who love Mexican food.

I have little experience with Mexican food and it is not my favorite so I would like others to comment on the food.

The location is 18°41'31.7"N 98°56'39.8"E and there is lots of parking available.

Another credulous prediction, one which neither of us will be around to confirm or refute. But given that Carbon Dioxide is the source of all plant life are we too expect that we will have the "Attack  of the Plants", that will kill off us humans because there is no way that CO2 will.  :wai:

this is somewhat off topic but I have to respond to this. My intention is not to steer the original topic off course.

Of course carbon dioxide is the source of all plant life. The problem is that we are burning fuels that were created from plants, and thus from carbon dioxide, that grew many millions of years ago and then were fossilized.

I agree that carbon dioxide will not kill us. In fact as you indicate we need carbon dioxide used in photosynthesis to produce all life energy. Also if there was no carbon dioxide in the upper atmosphere the average temperature of this planet would be somewhere around -15 degrees C.

What will (and is causing) the problem is all the extra energy radiated back to the upper atmosphere of the Earth due to rapidly increasing amounts of greenhouse gases, the major one of which is CO2. This is what is causing the average temperature to rise annually by what most people see as a tiny increase but which in fact is an historical huge increase.

  5. I haven't read through all the pages but some of the criticism I have read explains why we have a serious problem with our planet and it is doubtful that civilization as we know it today will manage to last another 100 years unless the amount of carbon dioxide released is drastically reduced. If most people were like the OP we wouldn't have this serious problem.

So instead of being critical I think the OP deserves congratulations. The past 40 years has seen the lucky few well off gain immense riches while the poor masses have been getting much poorer.

  6. I have an Australian passport with only 7 months left which I have been using for my Thai visas and a brand new blank Canadian passport. I want to change to the Canadian passport on a visa run from Chiang Mai.

I plan to fly from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and then Bangkok to Vientiane and obtain a Laos visa on arrival at the airport on entry. So I want to get stamped out in my Australian passport and then stamped in to Laos at the international airport in Vientiane in my blank Canadian passport. Is this possible?

I have two previous consecutive Tourist visas from the Thai consulate in Vientiane. Since I am using a new passport will this visa count as my first or my third?

  7. I have a Non Immigrant Visa with extensions based on Retirement. My current extension expires in March. I use a combination of pension income plus bank balance to make up the 800,000 Baht. When I go for my next extension in Chiang Mai my bank balance will be 10 to 15 days short of 90 day seasoning.

I need a plan B if the extension gets knocked back. Is it possible to get a 90 day single entry Non Immigrant visa in Vientiane in my situation? I am divorced from my Thai ex-wife. Most of the references I can find refer to obtaining a Non O based on having a Thai wife.

If I can get the 90 day single entry Non Immigrant visa can I apply for extension of stay in Chiang Mai based on retirement?

  8. Starting at Central airport plaza, head towards Hang Dong on the 108.

After you pass Tesco Lotus look out on your left side for a place selling bricks & tiles.

They have fire bricks, marked MOT 30, they also sell the high temp cement.

Thanks.for the very clear directions. I will stop some time this week to check it out.

  9. Bottom line....

Once you're sick of the Usual trappings of the old city and such you MUST get outside the city to see the REAL Thailand?

Drive scooter, enjoy. Be very careful. You can't see this in the city..

I'm on my second new Honda Wave 125 and have done around 100K km around Chiang Mai over the past 14 years.

I had 2 minor accidents within the first 2 months of getting my first Honda Wave. Once I forced myself to forget about traffic rules in my home country and learned from observing the Thais I haven't had an accident since.

I don't agree that Thais are insane on scooters. The vast majority ride scooters sensibly and predictably. Whenever I encounter an idiot weaving in and out of traffic lanes at high speeds frequently it is an over confident young farang.

  10. I'm due to reinstall Windows so I've had a quick play around. It was a non-starter in Chrome as it won't let me do anything without an account, tells me it's installed in Firefox but there's nothing to see for me to play around with and no options when I go into the add-on, just the option to remove. It looks like most of the bad reviews were from April when they started charging for the premium service - if I just bite the bullet and open an account I'll probably see the option of free or paid, but they haven't updated it (from your 'old software' warning, but I didn't get that either) and it doesn't appear in the add-on's if you search for it. I wonder if they're transitioning to being a paid service? Either way, it's a bit dishonest as a lot of people seem to have believed that they had no choice but to pay, and from their home site there's no mention of a free service, just a 7 day free trial (with no indication of how much after the trial presumably unless you log in). I'll see how much time I have later.

It isn't a huge amount of money anyway if you're using it and it's working well for you, I think I read $4 a month, but there are plenty of options for full VPN's for UK. Australia not so, and last time I looked they were all about $7 to $8 a month, but no idea how reliable they are.

Sounds to me like you have it!

If it is there in your add-ons (extensions).

for me that is the only way i know its there. There are no icons or toolbars. It just runs in the background.

Best way to see is go to BBC iPlayer and if it works...... Thats it!

(also try.... ABC IVEIW thats what this thread was about0

I agree its not alot for the premium version but you would probably be better off using a VPN rather than media hint.

I also use VPN's on occasion.... Free to Use Anonymox (for firefox) Gives UK and NL ip Address.

Paid version i can recommend is Strong VPN. for UK.or US..

the reason i like media hint is the fact it doesnt seem to slow anything down.

I installed Firefox and then MediaHint from the cnet site. (Thanks for the tip!) I had to install Adobe Flash but eventually got both BBC iplayer and ABC iVeiw to work.

I have been using Astrill as my VPN paying around $7 per month. I agree that if you just want a VPN to watch these two then MediaHint is much better, even if I have to pay $4 per month for it. However, for the moment it seems as though MediaHint still works as a free version when downloaded from cnet, but insists on the pay for version if you go to the MediaHint website to download it.

Astrill can be very slow at times to the point of not being able to watch video. I won't be renewing it in April when my renewal is due.

  11. True is advertising a promotion package for 799 Baht per month. I don't understand everything about it because I can only find information in Thai. From what I understand it consists of internet with a fiber optic connection 30 Mbs/3 Mbs, 105 true channels via the internet cable and some free WiFi data and some free mobile minutes (I think 100). The cost is 799 Baht per month.

The 105 channels TV are not of much interest to me because there are very few English channels. However, I currently get TrueVisions satellite Knowledge package because it has Setanta (mad Rugby Leauge fan) for 590 per month, In the package described above, I can get the Knowledge package for an extra 100 Baht. So for 899 Baht I can get the 30 Mbs fiber optic connection plus the Knowledge package for a total of 899 Baht.

I currently pay 890 Baht for 3BB 13Mbs for 890 per month plus TrueVisions Kowledge package for 590 Baht (a total of 1480 Baht)

Now my question is: Does anyone use this 30Mbs/3Mbs package, and if so, is it stable? Does it work everyday or is it on sometimes and off sometimes? If it is a stable as 3BB then it is an excellent deal. If it has a lot of downtime then I'm probably better off sticking with 3BB. Also I believe with this connection you are sharing with 11 other users, Is this a problem?

The website for the promotion is given below. It is supposed to be in English but I didn't find any English on the page.

  12. I will nit pick here for amusment.... condo payment does not prove where you live, only that you made a condo payment. the tm 47 has a place for a current address, that is all that is required for 90 day report. Since the culy haired girl has departed report desk things have really slowed down, sad.png

Does anyone know what happened to the curly haired girl? She was fantastic - could process a form in the blink of an eye. She is really missed as she saved us tons of time.
