  1. Yyou have not been in Thailand that long ,i neverheard the word farang during the two years i worked here. Expats were described by thier nationalites like khon angrit, khon american etc, We made an effort to learn Tha1 , and mixed freely with them. We ate Thai food and dressed decenly,we did not get iny fights or trouble, we were respected and kiked by all Thais Returning to Tthailand several years later i heard the word farang used ro describe new expats they were a whole different breed from when i was here last. Their behavior and appearance caused the Thais to label them as farangs.and lose respect for them. So naturally I am offended if any one calls me a farang being put in the same class as a farang whin includes a lot of undesrable types.
  2. Samroyyot 40 kim south of Hua hin. Probably because of the 300 mountains surrounding it in
  3. The TAT had to do something to justify its existance.
  4. Well Thailand is certainly doing a marvellous job. 16,000 deaths as opposed 1o 160,000 in the UK.
  5. The Thai public health system is very good. They have been let down by not having enough vaccines. They definitely doing a much better job than in the UK. 16,000 deaths against 160,000. I see all Thais wearing masks and distancing in public places I have been vaccinated twice it was extraordinary efficient friendly and well-organised.
  6. So what. 160,000 deaths in the UK and not getting much better. It seems in spite of everything in Thailand have done very much better than the UK in handling the pandemic.
  7. Just look at the UK with 10 times more deaths than Thailand. Trump Clone Boris Johnson obsessed with brexit ignores the pandemic. The hyproxity of brits on this forum bashing Thailand when their own country fares so badly is pathetic
  8. Trump clone, Boris Johnson obsessed with pushing brexit through ignored the pandemic resulting in a death rate 10 times higher than Thailand even with the smaller population Brits who criticise Thailand regarding the pandemic are just hypocrites.
  9. Who are the clouns people refer to on t.his topic. Thailand with a larger population has had 16,000 deaths from the virus whilst the UK has had 160,000. What hypocritisy! In spite of everything Thailand has managed the virus much better than the UK in fact 10 times better
  10. I used to place I free adverts in Thai Visa classified, but I can't find it anymore, has it closed down or what?
  11. A rather silly post you think all people are the same like you. You are not even average expat. You spend more in Thailand for food than you would in UK probably the only person that does so. One of the reasons most people I like living here is because of the marvellous cheap Thai food. Probably one third or less than what it costs in the UK even if you like the odd Western food, it's a lot less than in the UK.
  12. It is not about money. I have had my ups and downs. But the best time in my life was when I had no money at all. Pattaya 1965. I had lost my job. I stayed with a Thai friend who owned a very popular resort, restaurant and boathouse , he gave me free food and drink (beer) and accommodation overlooking the beach. We went spearfishing nearly every day in his boat. The water was crystal clear and teeming with large fish, including sharks .I gave him most of my catch which averaged probably 25 to 50 kg a day. I kept a few fish in his freezer for myself which I gave as tips to accommodating bar girls. I did this for nearly six months.
  13. No one will ever admit it. But Patayas main attraction was it sheer decadence, walking Street and a sex supermarket. The sea is polluted and a brown green colour. Hundreds of thousands of scuba divers have trashed the reefs in and scared all the fish away.. So what will be the new attraction?
  14. Yes it actually does. I used Thai visa immigration service. I didn't have to go to immigration I simply posted my passport and I got my retirement visa extension and they will do the 90 day reporting for me until my next extension due in one years time. Their fees are very reasonable and I can't possibly see any advantages of having an elite card ,
  15. What do you mean by "..your country". Thailand is my home therefore Thailand is my country. I was born in Sri Lanka when it was a British colony. My parents were Anglo Irish having lived in Sri Lanka for three generations I went to the UK during the war and went to school there. I left immediately after I finish school when I was 17 and went back to Sri Lankaand have had no connection with the UK since then and my parents moved to Portugal.. I left Sri Lanka due to political turmoil and came to Thailand where I spent most of my time since. It annoys me when people asked me where are you from all which is your country and when people talk about home have to wonder why they live here.
  16. I presume that you are over 60. Is that correct?
  17. there is no real answer to this question. It depends entirely upon your background and what you used to. I have very many wealthy expat friends. They employ a gardener, a maid and a driver. They eat expensive food and wine. They travel abroad once a year and so on. But I also have friends who live very well while avoiding all expats and live in a nice Thai environment, they don'T spend much money.
  18. I Managed to register with no difficulty on Sunday evening. I later got an EMAIL saying that my registration is accepted and I will be given the time and date. BY email It also mentioned priority will be given to those most in need which I assume means over 60 years old or with respiratory diseases.
  19. you are lucky I am 90 years old with a lot of chest problems. I have to go government hospital once a week for treatment. I can't get a vaccination unless I go to Bangkok. I am disabled and cannot travel very far it is five hours from where I live
  20. I don't understand this talk of home. If you come to Thailand and live here in Thailand is your home. For me is the only place I have no other home. I was born in Sri Lanka went to England during the war returned to Sri Lanka afterwards. When things got bad I came to Thailand my parents live in Portugal. I hate being asked where am my from. Many Thais and foreigners ask me this question. I have no answer. So if another country is your home what are you doing in Thailand are you a tourist just here for a short visit or what. ?
  21. I have dual nationality I'm 90 years old with several lung diseases. If I'd use my New Zealand passport instead of my British passport in entering Thailand for retirement. The New Zealand embassy would have arranged for me to get vaccinated . a British passport is not much use nowadays. we used to be able to travel anywhere in the European Union and work, get medical care. or reside there. Now we can't
  22. I am 90 years old with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and many other lung problems like chronic bronchitis I'm a British subject I tried every possible means to get a vaccination but failed. I think at least the British consular section should do something to help people like me and others in the same situation. I would obviously like to stay at home and not go out. But I have to go to hospital for medical treatment twice a week.
