meadish_sweetball
Nothing worse that white folk telling ya they are not racist. You see their mouth moving, but it's the last twinkle in the eye that makes you say "Do White people really speak English"? If you really think you see my eyes "twinkle" through your computer screen, your condition is worse than I thought. If you are using drugs, don't. They cloud your judgement. Just a piece of free advice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Anamore, if you want to learn some more Thai, try the "Teach yourself Thai" course by David P. Smythe - the great thing about this course is the tape where you can practice your tones and learn actual conversations which are good introductions to basic situations and social life in Thailand. If you do your homework and then ask a Thai friend to correct your pronunciation afterwards, you'll be well on your way to speaking with less of an accent. The problem with learning expressions and trying to memorize and repeat them in everyday situations without applying the tonal system, is that you will never get very far when communicating with non-English speaking Thais you don't already know. Also, your mispronunciations are harder to correct the longer you use them. (People you know "tune in" to your pronunciation and tonal mistakes and learn what you mean, but new people don't have the time for that.)
john b good
The real issue is that Thais (like many other nationalities) want to please you. Instead of just saying your shirts will come back (ironed) tomorrow they will tell you that "don't worry" they will be back (maybe today or whenever) rather than tell the truth. They leave that to the person on the next shift to tell you "sorry but they are not back yet" The reality is don't believe a word that you hear, just believe it when the shirts are hanging up in in the wardrobe in your room..........
