It would be one thing if this was just a follower of Buddhism but this is a monk. Instead of trying to set a positive example, this guy has just shown a true example of the real hypocrisy of ALL religion. It's all just a cash scam!!!! arend Posted October 2, 2017 Share Posted October 2, 2017 Wow... so much hostility towards monks and Buddhism... a little reality check here... one is not magically transformed into an enlightened saint upon ordaining as a monk. You come in with all your baggage. Through meditation and a disciplined life style you gradually let it go and mature. You begin with a set of rules to follow. Just that is quite a task for young monks. Mistakes, setbacks, relapses are normal for the course. Of course, with a vow of poverty and winning the lottery presents quite the moral dilemma... Just mentioned to my wife this story and she just looked puzzled- yet my reaction with limited knowledge was automatically that's wrong. So as in so many cases a thai sees it as a 'grey' area. To most of us it's very easy to see as 'black and white'. we do live in modern times and it is stupid to play by the rules that monks don't handle money.
