We are proud to announce that the Dusit Thani Hua Hin Soccer Academy (DTHHSA) has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Sport Youth Development Program’ award at the 2017 Asia Sports Industry Awards (SPIA Asia).

The awards are endorsed and supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. DTHHSA is one of ten youth development programs on the SPIA Asia shortlist with the winners announced in a ceremony at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre on November 6/7th.

Steve Barbe is the Director of the DTHHSA. He made more than 100 appearances in the Belgian top division during his professional career and was delighted to see the academy nominated for these prestigious awards,

“It is an honour for the Dusit Thani Hua Hin Soccer Academy to have been recognized by the Asia Sports Industry Awards. Nominees in other categories include the Toyota Thai League and the Thailand National Team and we are proud to be shortlisted alongside some of the biggest footballing organizations in the country,” he said.

The awards are held annually and celebrate the brands, agencies, marketers and organizations which positively influence the sporting landscape in Asia. This year the panel of judges includes industry experts like Col Ruj Saeng-Udom, Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, and Ms Huei Chern Lee, Senior Director at Sport Singapore.

Phichaya Goyder, Assistant General Manager at the DTHHSA, sees being shortlisted for the award as recognition for the work parents and coaches have been doing with children at the academy and beyond.

“As well as coaching over 50 boys and girls and entering nine different teams in five different leagues the Dusit Thani Hua Hin Soccer Academy also travels to Pala U Noi with Jungle Aid every month to coach the children from the stateless, landless Karen community there. This nomination is a reward for the hard work all our coaches and parents have put in to help make the academy a force for good in the local community.”

Among the initiatives launched by the DTHHSA this year is a scholarship program to allow impoverished local children to play football. Former England and Tottenham defender Gary Stevens recently came to Hua Hin to coach the children while veteran manager Jason Withe will also be coaching at the academy on Wednesday (October 11th).
