Two brides in talk-of-the-town wedding in Lop Buri

By The Nation

A wedding in downtown Lop Buri on Tuesday morning became the talk of the town due to the absence of a groom.

The wedding featured Amporn Plienchai, 33, owner of three florist's shops in Lop Buri, and Chatkul Puangsombat, 37, owner of an export firm and beauty shop in Nakhon Sawan.

Both women were dressed as brides.

Amporn said both women used to be maried to men, but they had divorced and were fed up males.

Amporn said she had met Chatkul by chance when visiting a temple to pay respects at a reclining Buddha statue. She dropped flowers she had brought for the Buddha and Chatkul picked them up for her.

The two then kept in touch until they decided to spend the rest of their lives together.

For the wedding, Chatkul brought gold ornaments weighing 50 baht, a diamond ring and Bt1 million in cash as dowry to give to Amporn's parents.

The wedding reception was held at the Lop Buri community hall.

After the wedding, the two planned to move to their new house in Nakhon Sawan.

Each to their own, but I really cannot see why this gets in newspapers, apart from the obvious "look at me/us" publicity seeking.

Maybe because its out of the ordinary and maybe because they want to support people who are not straight (sorry language issue here there must be a better way to say that)

I suspect that there is more to it than that.

I have been fed up with women at various times in my life, but I never considered marrying a bloke.

That makes sense.

It's a common myth that gay people hate the opposite sex and that's why they're gay.

It's more about attraction, physical and emotional, to the same sex.

And? Why is this news? Get married already, no one cares.

I suppose it's news because it's a lesbian "wedding" and that they're wealthy, out Thais, and also the dowry oddity.

Of course they aren't technically legally married because that's not yet possible under Thai law, but that seems to matter less here than in many other countries. In other words, these ritual "marriages" seem to carry considerable legitimacy here.

No, it's legitimate news because such events are relatively rare here now.

If it gets to the point of same sex marriage legalization and it's an everyday thing, then such marriages won't be news except when there are CELEBRITIES involved.

So why did only one lady have to bring gold and money. How does that work with 2 women. I would think nobody pays in this case. No groom no money.

Seen many Tom and Dee couples, Tom is the pretend man (lesbian) and has to pay, Dee is usually available (not gay, but a rental) to anyone with the money.

Nice one ladies and I hear where you are coming from as business dealing with some of those men you talk about are at the least lazy and corrupt. If you get bored girls by some fishing rods and head down to Birds pool (near town center) there your find some seriously good fun pulling out the big Mekong and no men insight.

The lady on the right is playing the role of husband.(obvious isn't it?) They are fed up with males because you males not doing a good job. First you are tongue-tied then you come when you feel like coming, oh no, she said, no, that's not good at all.

It's hilarious how many people can't process the concept of same sex relationships without forcing them into hetero-normative models.

I think the problem lies in the vast maajority of men on this forum are gender normative and cissexist and have little contact with skoliosexual  or intersexual men.
