webfact Posted November 16, 2017 Share Posted November 16, 2017 13 injured, including 12 students, in Phichit road accident By The Nation Twelve students were injured on Wednesday evening when their pickup truck was hit by another pickup, whose driver was also severely injured in Phichit province. The students' pickup had reportedly been modified into a transport vehicle. Police said the accident happened at 5.50pm on the Nakhon Sawan-Phitsanulok Road in Tambon Thanong's Moo 6 village, Thalay district. Police said the pickup, which was transporting students home after school, was hit on the right side, sending it crashing into a tree on the roadside. The impact caused the students to be thrown out of the vehicle onto the road. Police said Amphai Klaydee, the driver of the second pickup, was severely injured. Thongsuk Hunklay, 48, the driver of the students' vechicle, said he was bringing the students home when his vehicle was hit by Amphai's pickup, which he said was speeding. keith101 Posted November 16, 2017 Share Posted November 16, 2017 until travelling in the back of pickups is made illegal with big fines a lot more people will be killed and or injured , I understand its the cheapest way to get somewhere for a lot of people but is it worth the huge loss of life and all the injuries incurred . It would be fairly hard to be thrown out the side of one of these. I have never seen one as overloaded as this one in my area . This school transport vehicle was hit side on by a speeding pickup driven by Mr Amphai now resting peacefully in hospital. 12 students is not overload as there is usually sufficient seating. This is the most common form of student transport in rural areas of this country and given the hundreds of thousands of students transported every week, these accidents are actually not that common. The simple answer is yes... most Thais think it is worth the risk of injury or death, which is why police are apt to turn a blind eye, especially during school run time!
