rooster59
DSI to be asked to investigate Kanchanaburi temple with suspected illegal wood The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will be asked to accept as a special case and conduct an investigation into the large quantity of processed wood found at Wat Mettatham Phothiyan in Kanchanaburi province, according to Chaiwat Limlikit-aksorn, chief of the Phaya Sua Task Force of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Mr Chaiwat said his unit, which is responsible for the suppression of wildlife poaching and destruction of natural resources, will also submit a proposal for the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to withdraw Wat Mettatham Phothiyan from the project on “Buddhist parks in protected forests.” Under the project, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation will allow the construction of monasteries and living quarters in forest areas to promote conservation of forests. Monks joining the project must help preserve the surrounding forest and must not build large structures in the designated area. Well, it looks like they did a fantastic job preserving the surrounding forest, neatly stacked in a dry, sheltered place like this cavernous (purpose-built?) warehouse, which in their definition probably is not a large building but merely a shed... Sid Celery
This seems to be the highest priority for the government. Not to worry about the levels of corruption, drug-running, human trafficking, nepotism, lets go after the monks, they've been hoarding wood. Oh fee oh fie.. Threat to national security if ever I saw one.
worgeordie
Thats the problem they always find the wood after the trees have been cut down and processed, and only rarely catch anyone in the act of felling trees. wonder where the wood ends up after it has been confiscated. regards worgeordie
Ruffian Dick
Would have discovered the wood-cutting before the wood was cut? Amazing powers of perception you must have. Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect
