You will need to check in and go through passport control at airport of your first flight but no need to check in again at Don Muang. TonyBB Posted December 17, 2017 Share Posted December 17, 2017 Just did this last week, on a trip from Phuket to Vietnam, using AirAsia. The process was smooth. Clear immigration in HKT and depart from a gate in the international terminal. (Ours was a bus gate and they took us over to the plane, where domestic pax were already boarding.) When you get off the domestic flight at DMK, look for AirAsia person at the gate who will have a list of passengers that need to be escorted over to international. Similarly easy on the return, but the process was a little different. The escort brought us to a transit area at DMK, we cleared immigration there, then were allowed into the domestic air-side area to board our flight back to HKT, and then at HKT someone met us at the arrival gate again... this time to escort us over to international baggage claim. While passport/immigration was handled in the DMK transit CIQ transit area, baggage pickup and customs inspection was done at HKT. So if you have someone picking you up at the airport, need to tell them you are arriving in the international terminal. The process seems to work fine. Be sure to wear those little stickers they ask you to put on your shirt, so you'll be visible to the people waiting to escort you from one area to another.
