BANGKOK — A top alcohol regulator said Monday his agency is suing the popular open-air beer gardens at CentralWorld Plaza for violating advertising laws.

The legal action won’t stop there, said Alcohol Control Board director Nipon Chinanonwait, who threatened to crack down on similar events nationwide on the grounds that they entice the public to drink. A trade guild denied Nipon’s allegation.

The government  could sure make a lot of 500,000 baht fines by walking down Pattaya's walking street and citing every bar with lady barkers  outside the bar.     "Section 32 of a 2008 law that bans attempts to “encourage” drinking".

Another misguided fiasco by this government.

There is no alcohol, tobacco, weapons, or sex in Thailand. I know this because I have seen their TV shows and all of those things are blurry. The people have grown up not knowing what they are.

I'm not sure what they're talking about. People go to bars and beer gardens to drink Chang and Leo mineral water, we know this because the evidence is in the current TV ads from both :)

What else they are doing than showing the logo or theme of each brewery at the beer gardens. They not even advertise about the prices for beer etc...

If they are that strict what about any other advertising or sponsoring from brewery companies.
I think there are much more urgent problems for the anti alcohol minister than some temporary beer garden.
How about the amounts of hard alcohol and cheap lao khao that are consumed every day.
He should better take care of this issue.

Too late to edit but definitely I have no issue with all the lovely barkers.     While I do have some issues of confliction, I still  prefer the arena of opportunity.

who creates these various agencies who are a total waste of time and money.

Money and effort that could be spent on worthwhile cause like road safety and combatting corruption

time for these useless agencies to be dismantled, in any developed country they are nothing more than crackpot voluntary activists who don't know how to enjoy themselves
