Lift home turns out to be just a front for theft for French tourist

Pattaya cops have announced the results from investigations that solved two theft cases at the resort.

In the first on December 16th a Thai man from Nakorn Phanom offered to drive a French tourist called Olivier Rene Piriou, 51, home on his motorcycle as the tourist was very drunk.

Khamwan Jariut, 39, took him home but when the Frenchman woke in the morning 10,000 baht, 500 Euros and a 10,000 baht gold necklace were missing.

The tourists said he couldn't remember anything after getting back home.

The necklace was found at the lodgings of Khamwan who was arrested on a warrant of theft from a property at night.

In the other case an Italian tourist called Fulvio Curti, 59, took 29 year old Kanjana Hormnuan home for the night.

The woman stole 3,800 Euros(148,000 baht) from him.

She was arrested in her hometown of Sa Kaew and said that she needed the money to celebrate New Year, reported 77Jowo.

Just out of curiosity, is it advisable (or even possible) to get a blood test to see if they've been drugged, as opposed to just drunk?

Is there any change in the prosecution, or the sentencing when they're caught?   I'd sure want to know in any case.  Especially since I don't drink...

"She was arrested in her hometown of Sa Kaew and said that she needed the money to celebrate New Year..."

Now, here's a good reason to steal! Not sick, no school money, but simply for partying...

Of course! That´s a perfect reason to steal instead of getting an education and a better work.
The man on the other hand, he had no explaination! It´s the slammer for at least 20 years.

A lot of tourists are simply total numpties. Who gets so wasted and thinks they'll got out in Pattaya with their blingy gold chain on with 500 euros and 10k baht in his pocket or leaves even the slightest access to almost 4k Euros for a hooker to take advantage of? Totally moronic and asking for it really...deserve all they get.

Good to see that the police are doing their job and arrest Thais , give them credit for that.

I just wonder how much of this was recovered and returned to the tourist. Not sure but

when I read other news articles it seems once the money has been spent there is no

recourse or attempt to recover the money or pawned/sold merchandise. Just the standard

500 baht fine and release.

The only thing stupider is leaving your valuables in what passes for a hotel safe.

So you're pretty much screwed just for having valuables.  Even if you're not drunk or chasing women.  Though you can improve your odds by abstaining.

In which case, why bother leaving home?

Do these Thais not get jail time for theft? 4,000 Euros surely breaks the Felony-tier barrier for sentencing right?
