Daily News reported that the Department of Land Transport had issued a "heavy penalty" to a minivan driver reported on social media threatening others with a knife.

The incident happened on the Bangkok to Kanchanaburi route yesterday afternoon and driver Thawee Onprajam was soon facing the music yesterday evening.

DLT chief Sanit Phromwong said that Thawee initially has had his licence to operate and driving license removed for three months.

This was effective immediately - they were not waiting for further evidence.

He was also fined the top whack of 5,000 baht.

The company who operates the service - Kanchanaburi Express Co Ltd - were fined 50,000 baht.

He called the behavior displayed by the driver as "very dangerous" and expressed his intention to wipe out such behavior for the benefit of the travelling public.

Thawee will now face criminal prosecution with the police as all parties are expected to meet in Kanchanaburi today.

heavy penalty ? its a sad joke !
in europe if you do that you will spend next 6 months or more in a jail !

certainly not in my native European country. You would have to commit at least 30 crimes of that kind before you eventually land behind bars - and commit even more such crimes if you happen to be not part of the indigenous population
