Well, was he drunk? If so, he was just a lad, and after having a couple just couldn't think straight.

Your the 2nd one who is trying to make light of this.

A girl had fallen to her death, tragic as it is, he still should have had the decency to call it in, regardless, if he had nothing to hide, it would of perhaps helped his cause, but to walk away from it, drunk, on drugs or whatever, doesn't make it right.

Damn sick people in this world, just listen to yourself, he is just a lad, tell that to your wife when the cops ring your place and tell you, your daughter just fell of a balcony when she was being shagged by a customer, he is just a lad, but we found him though, 2-3-4 days later at a bar, ah, no Mr smotherb he didn't ring anybody to say she fell, he was stressed.

He was having sex with her on the balcony....it stands to reason that the police would take him in.

Yes he was the last person to see her alive he admits they were together at her time of death,... yet he doesn't bother to call or tell anyone about her death?? that is pretty idiotic no matter how you look at it!

someone falls off your balcony to their death? I dont care how distraught you <deleted> are.. common sense should tell you to call the police!

This is definitely grounds for arrest!  regardless if it was accidental or intentional.

Regardless of what will transpire, a human being fell off a balcony and died, to walk away from that, regardless of what or how cold blooded you are, speaks for itself, one must always render some kind of help, but then again, people like yourself and your mate behind bars only think of themselves, don't they, talk about low life's !

I understand the sentiment, and I'd agree back home.  But from a pragmatic standpoint, what is a tourist going to do to render help?   Call an ambulance?  What's that number, and do they speak English?  First aid?  Does he have training?  I don't.  Not for that kind of tragedy.  Tell someone to call an ambulance?  I suspect that would be redundant in front of a popular hotel in a tourist town.

OTOH, what are his risks of being beaten to death by her friends and family before (or after) the cops get there?  What are the chances he'll receive a fair and impartial trial?  Or, more importantly, what are his perceptions of his chances in a country with a reputation like Thailand's, currently being run by a military junta?

Running makes you look guilty. That's for sure.

Not only running without give any assistance to the victim, but moved to another location near by, took a shower and went to the NeXT bar - a Place similar to where it all started - this will not exactly strengthen his case ....

20 hours is a loong time in this setting and gives you the opportunity to think twice to for example consider to turn yourself in before you get arrested...

We they found the young man. While a lot of questions will be asked, certainly, I must address the cynical nature of the peanut gallery here. Yes, he fled the scene, none of us know how we would react during similar circumstances; many of us would like to think we would take the altruistic route and report to the police, provide her with CPR and whatnot, but sadly, that is not reflective in many cases, especially when fueled with copious amounts of alcohol by both parties. I think it would be a fair judgement that in either scenario, (he pushed her to her death or she accidentally fell), panic set in and is why he fled the scene. Sadly, the Thai police are seriously lacking in proper investigative techniques and may very well draw a confession from the young man, whether in reality or through physical means. Things are not looking good for this young man. I would suggest he lawyer up, if he has not done so yet.

Why would a 26yo man need to be anywhere near bargirls [prostitutes], and on Viagra too? Poor girl probably refused unreasonable sexual demands and things deteriorated from there,[ it's amazing how fast the 'girlfriend experience' can turn nasty], violence resulted, girl gets thrown off balcony. If this is the case I hope he gets 50years in Bang Kwang.

Luckily, your not jumping to any conclusions

According to an online source, "Vella fled the scene in a panic taking with him two mobile phones belonging to the deceased. He is now facing charges of recklessness causing death to others, burglary at night using a vehicle and illegally being in the country having overstayed his visa by 59 days."

The smart money is on the "burglary at night" charge carrying the heaviest penalty, then the "overstay" and then the "recklessness causing death."

If I had been in his situation I`d probably had done a runner too, rather then have to face being a number one murder suspect. Sadly unless there is any CCT footage of what happened and I very much doubt there will be, then the guy may be facing months of jail time while under arrest, court attendances, maybe legal fees and media attention until if and when he is proved innocent. I feel sorry for the poor sod.

I agree, I would have left the country on the next flight out, rather than risk Thai justice.

Prostitution is probably one of the most dangerous occupations in the world. Exposed to most diseases known to mankind, customers can be maniacs, rapists, murderers and mental cases. Within minutes they can be bought and will go alone into the homes, hotels or rooms of complete strangers which in most cases they probably don`t even know their names. It could be like walking straight into the lions den. Another downside to prostitution is that generally people have low regard for them, some may be beaten or murdered by male customers and very few will lose any sleep over it, just another prostitute they will think, an occupational hazard that they expose themselves to.

Which begs the question; should women bare a certain responsibility to themselves regarding their own well being? I am not victim blaming, nor am I saying these women are asking for it, but are many of these women by the shear nature of what they do, victims waiting to happen?

I do think that her falling off the balcony , was the reason why they arrested him

No, he was arrested for leaving the scene, failure to help - the non-driving version of hit-and-run.

He could face more charges of course, but that's the reason he was arrested straightaway.

Trite rubbish. The young guys go for the bar girls because they can be great company, great fun, good pals and excellent sex. You do not know what you are talking about. Millions of such relationships take place over the years and this is only the second time I have heard about such an incident. The girls are tough and savvy and so are their Thai boy friends. Have you ever been to Thailand or just visited it from the cloisters of your Mormon mission house via sensational headlines and your own fetid imagination?

I disagree with this post, customers (in this location) are generally middle aged (or elderly), middle class western men.

The worst risk is probably the customer having a heart attack on top of them.

Met lots of these girls, usually it's their Thai boyfriends that give them beatings, not their customers.

What a dog of a man, just left, no call for help, an ambulance perhaps, he was stressed and decided to leave, yeh right, looks more like you through her off the balcony now, doesn't it sunshine 555.

What did you think, if I leave, she might get back up, dog, life in prison !!!

She didn't die straight away and if that scumbag had made a call for help it might have alleviated some of her suffering at least. Hope he thinks about that in jail

So the guy is banging  her on the balcony,  she falls over and he just thinks bummer!!

so moves to stay at another hotel? And people are commenting on why is he with a prostitute in the first place; as if this is an everyday occurrence.

I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt before hanging him out to dry. I could imagine what a difficult situation that might have been for a young guy in a foreign country (especially Thailand). He panicked and ran.

I'm not saying what he did was right, sure he should have called for help, but I don't blame him for running, if it was in fact an accident. He probably thought he would end up behind bars for the rest of his life. It goes without saying it was a stupid move doing it on the balcony though.

RIP!! I'm sure there is now a child without a mom and no more source of funding as a result of this tragedy.

he might have asked for something very unusual, unknown to the girl: "guy on top, girl under guy (facing him)"

He also needs to explain the reason he didn't call for help immediately after the incident as opposed to just checking into another hotel.

"I did book a double room, although my partner has just fallen from the balcony, So I will check -out and go and book into a single room , as a double room is no longer required"

Hogwash. You`ve already been proved wrong as the guy in question is 25, fit and healthy. Besides that, I am talking about prostitution in general. This girl is not the first to die plying her trade and she certainly won`t be the last, that`s a fact. Each time they go off with clients, young, middle aged or old,  they are taking huge risks and by the very nature of what they do, very few in society will have any sympathy. Education is the key, because the toll and abuse they expose their bodies to does not make prostitution a viable means to make a living, one way or another, either mentally or physically they will pay a high price.

A very good argument for full legitimisation, regulation and protection for sex workers.

The same sort of protection that anyone in a profession with potential hazards might expect.

Feel sorry for the lad, that's your prerogative, while I feel sorry for the girl's family, you know the girl he says he was banging on the balcony, where she allegedly fell to her death, while he walked off stressed, no doubt saying to himself OMG, I wonder if she is alive, OMG, I wonder should I have called an ambulance, nah, what for, they will think she fell off someone else's balcony, she just a hooker, a piece of meat, she is just a working girl, extracting dollars off of me to make a living to feed her family.

Or.... he hastily tossed on some cloths, went downstairs and found the security guard there, with a growing crowd of locals, and, fearing for his safety, he legged it.

He screwed the pooch by not turning himself in, before being arrested.

that said..... there are a truck load of threads about low life scum in patts, so par for the course, perhaps. (Clarification pre pillorying... ?... I’m not casting aspersions about patts dwellers... it’s just an observation ✌️)

I would say it takes a special kind of  dick to leave without  checking or  helping her after an accident like that, sex or not.  If you just out  for innocent  fun and that  happened I  am not  sure i  know anyone that  could zip up and walk away unless there was some hate involved and a feeling they thought they  could get away  with murder.  Sure cant  be that hard a job for forensics to  tell what really happened.

Totally and absolutely agree. Prostitution should be legalised and placed under some kind of controlling authority, regulated, imposed safe health practices and safe environments for these women to ply their trade.
