Pattaya police have detained the 25 year old British man arrested yesterday following the death of a Pattaya bar girl who fell from the fifth floor of the Cosy Beach View Condominium in Pratumnak.

Reece Vella, from Birmingham, said he did not mean to kill his 26 six year old partner who he took to his room. Previously named as Wannipha Chanhuathon from Sakon Nakhorn, Daily News referred to her as Kannika yesterday.

The Sun newspaper in the UK called her Joy. Manager said she was a bar girl in North Pattaya.

Medics were unable to save her after a security man heard her fall to the ground in the early hours of Saturday.

Vella who rented the room was soon rounded up on a warrant issued Sunday. He was apprehended in a beer bar in Soi Pornpraphanimit Soi 7.

He was found to be in possession of the victim's phone said Pattaya station chief Apichai Krobpetch..

Vella has been charged with negligence causing death of another person and theft at night. His passport showed that he had overstayed in Thailand a total of 59 days.

Vella told police that he took the victim back to his condo on the fifth floor for sex. They had sex in the bedroom but he wanted to change the mood so he took her onto the balcony.

But as they were about to climax she fell off the balcony, he was reported as telling police.

Manager said in a headline that the couple were engaging in "kinky and weird sex".

Vella continued that he panicked believing he would be blamed and took the victim's phone and went to stay in another place in Soi Pornpraphanimit, Soi 7, Bang Lamung where he was subsequently arrested.

He has denied all charges against him and has been detained.

The Sun reported earlier that Vella had also stolen a motorcycle. They said that the victim worked at Sky Bar in Soi 6 and was paid 1,500 for her services. They said that an empty sachet of Kamagra (a gel that is an Indian version of Viagra) was found in the room.

Meanwhile, The Mirror reports at Vella is a convicted rapist who is currently being hunted by police in the UK.

The British tabloid reports that Vella was jailed in the UK for four years  and nine months in 2012 after he admitted raping a teenager, who he punched in the face twice and hit with a bin lid before carrying out the attack.

Vella, a former soldier, was charged last year in conncetion with the supply of class A drugs and has a warrant outstanding against him.

Vella moved to Thailand to "start a new life" and "get out of trouble", according to his brother Andrayoss,

“He did have a problem with drugs, and served a stint in prison. But he had turned his life around", Andrayoss told the Mirror.

“It was a horrible shock when we were told he had been arrested.

“We feel really sorry for the girl and her family. It was an accident, we know it was. It’s awful.”

Actually it has been reported he rented the bike , so maybe that part of the story is true. But he's been living here for 4 months so why would he rent a bike only for a few days.

British man charged over woman’s fall from balcony

Reece Vella

Police in Pattaya have charged a Briton after he allegedly caused a woman to fall to her death from the fifth floor of a condominium during a sexual act.

Reece Vella was arrested after the naked body 26-year-old woman, Wannipa Chanhuatone, of Sakhon Nakhon, was found at the Cozy Beach Condominium in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district.

Investigations showed that she fell from a room on the fifth floor of the building. Police then began a search for a foreign man last seen with her.

Vella was arrested at a beer bar in the same district under a court arrest warrant issued on Sunday for allegedly being reckless and causing another person’s death, overstaying his visa and theft.

Pol Colonel Apichai Krobphet, a Pattaya commander, said Wannipa’s mobile phone was found with the suspect.

According to Apichai, Vella confessed that he had sex with Wannipa in the room on the fifth floor and he wanted a “change of scene” so they moved to the balcony. It was during the act that Wannipa fell from to the ground.

After the accident, he grabbed his and Wannipa’s mobile phones before leaving and moving to a rented room.

Apichai said the suspect denied the charges, saying he had no intention of causing Wannipa’s death.

Sounds like a case of drunken naughtiness gone horribly wrong. The bloke obviously stupid for not helping her and fleeing the scene, but maybe he was aware that the local cops' ill repute would likely have him stitched up for something had he stuck around.

And it is sad how Thai suspects are able to cover their faces with hats, sunglasses and surgical masks when they get lifted while this guy's mug is viewable by all and sundry.

RIP to the girl, this guy is toast now and probably not for the reasons he should be. A sad case all round

Given his prior conviction, and the use of violence -- my gut says it be a little more than negligence.  At least they could tack on theft on top of any charges since he did take her phone which was not his to take.  Maybe tampering with a crime scene (removing evidence).   It might be that I am clutching at straws since I want him convicted of something more serious because his apparent lack of remorse.

Did you bother to read the bit about him being a violent rapist convicted in the UK? To me it certainly doesn't sound like a case of drunken naughtiness gone horribly wrong. However Mr Vella, convicted rapist, on-the-run drug dealer & overstayer, would certainly like you to believe it was. The only other witness cannot talk.

Thank you. One poster is more concerned that he rented the bike as well! It's like the first few posters are more concerned that this piece of scum Brit might further degrade the British reputation in Pattaya. I'm sure others will try to defend this loser as well. Is his name British enough for some posters?

RIP to the girl. No one deserves this.

He is just another quality tourist that never should have made it into Thailand.

The only good thing to come out of this is that he will serve time, a long time, in Ban Kwang prison instead of a UK prison. Then if he lives long enough to be released and deported he will be arrested on arival in the UK and serve another sentence.

I feel sorry for the victim and her family.

Well, according to the OP and the claims of the Sun & Mirror British tabloids this guy has lead a colourful life in his 25 years.

Classed as an ex-soldier (although couldn't have served for that long), jailed for rape for 4 years and nine months (although doesn't say how much time he actually did) and charged with Class A supply with an outstanding warrant against him, he does appear guilty before being charged the way he is being portrayed by the media.

Add to that his 59 day overstay in his attempt to 'start a new life' as claimed by his family, my mind would be made up already that this wasn't just an accident if I could only believe everything I read in the media.

Whatever happened - he seems like a piece of trash to me - rapist, batterer, thief, druggie - starting a new life on overstay and all in his mid twenties .  One thing I do know is that this is going to cost his family big time to get out of this 'comfortably'. Personally I hope he rots in a thai prison for a good few years - that will certainly give him a new start in life.

Or at least should legally not have been there for the past 59 days. None of this would have happened.

He's a nasty piece of work,a rapist, liar, and murderer in my books,

he obviously pushed/threw her over the balcony, because he didn't

want to pay, wanted to rob her,I expect the judges will not believe his

story either,a good few years in Thai jail, and if he's still alive, send him

back to UK to do his time there.

regards worgeordie

Why would they ever let a convicted rapist and other crimes into Thailand?  He did time after punching a teenager repeatedly in the face before raping her.

Keep the nasty scum like this out of the country.

"Turn his life around?" Looks like he took a U-turn at some point....lol...????

Pity immigration can't be bothered to flag these types upon entering Swampy airport and send them back before they legally enter. It states he was a convicted rapist in the story for crying out loud, If that does not send out warning bells to airport immigration  i don't know what will!

Thai Immigration would not access to the UK systems to do the queries.  The UK does not encode sex offender criminals on the passport, so unless there is something sent to Interpol they would have no way of knowing.
