thaiatheart
Can anyone clue me into what the festivities are like in Hatyai these days for Chinese New Year? I lived there back in 1989-90 and it was a huge deal then. Dates this year? Is there a schedule of events? Will be in Chiang Mai next week for a month with my kids and am trying to decide if its a decent time to visit old friends in Hatyai. I do remember the big parade with all sorts of scary/bloody things - don't particularly want my kids to see that... We are vegetarians, so I would be pretty happy to enjoy all the vegetarian options at this time... :)
lemonjelly
i think you’re confusing the 10 day vegetarian festival (october 8-17)which involves all the macabre self mutilation together with vegetarian food with the chinese new year (february 16), which doesn’t involve all the macabre stuff or veggie food, but lion dancers instead. Good luck trying to find a hotel room for that period, hat yai is usually chokka for that. Sent from my toaster using Thaivisa Connect
