Where to find PRP for hips, knees in Bangkok?

PRP for hips, knees in Bangkok

 

I'm searching for a doctor in Bangkok who can give PRP injections for knees and hips. I've had frequent treatments in Europe which have helped. I've now moved to Bangkok and I'd like to continue here.

 

I've called and emailed places, but haven't found what I want. My impression is that PRP is not as commonly used for orthopedics in Thailand as in Europe, although that might only be because I don't know where to look here as well as that I'm limited in my searching by not knowing Thai language.

 

What I'm looking for:

 

• Orthopedic specialist only. I've found several aesthetic clinics which offer joint PRP as a side treatment; I don't want that. The doctor doesn't have to be a surgeon, but should be a doctor with orthopedics focus.
• Real-time visual guidance (ultrasound, fluoroscopy) to place the injections correctly. I don't want a doctor who injects blindly based on touch. I've found that these visualization tools aren't just for marketing; for the hip in particular, placing the injections correctly makes the difference between successful treatment and a waste of time.
• I don't want special activation kits, light activators, or "next-gen platelet lysates". I've found that frequent injections of simply centrifuged PRP works well for me. The kits and activators are unnecessary expenses.

 

I want to find a cost-effective option. I want relatively frequent injections, not a one-time only treatment. And I'm on a limited budget. So the price matters to me. I don't want to pay for fancy facilities. Basic English knowledge by the doctor is necessary to get started, but I don't need that reception, nurses, admin workers speak any English.

 

As I understand, many orthopedists work in several clinics/hospitals at different times in the week, so I've thought that if I find a doctor who offers what I want, it might be more cost-effective to find the least expensive place to meet with him/her.

 

What would you suggest?

It indeed is not widely used here. 2 orthopedic doctors with experience in it are:

Dr. Wicharn Kanchanatawan. At Bumrungrad, Samitivej and Bangkok Hospitals. These 3 hospitals generally cost about the same.

Dr. Niti Prasathaporn. Samitivej, Bangkok and Ramkhamhaeng Hospitals. The last hospital is usually less expensive than the first two.

I was aware of Dr. Wicharn Kanchanatawan, but the prices at hospitals Bumrungrad, Samitivej and Bangkok seem high for me. More expensive than private PRP treatment in Europe, for example, which surprised me. I suppose it is a result of the low demand which you cite. (Interestingly, PRP is now so popular in Europe for orthopedics that there are many options; the issue instead becomes finding the exact type that you want).

I wasn't aware that Dr. Niti Prasathaporn is at Ramkhamhaeng. During my searching, someone suggested him and told me I'd find him at Queen Savang Vadhana Hospital. I will try to contact him. Which hospital do you think would be better for me to use to meet him?

I was also told there are PRP orthopedic services offered at the hospitals of Police General, Lerdsin, and Mahidol Sports, although I don't know have doctor names at those places. Would you know anything about these hospitals, for example, which are relatively more or less expensive? Or have ideas about how easy it would be as a private-paying foreigner to just walk in and get services at any of those places?

Queen Savang Vadhana, Lerddin, Police Hospital are all govt hospitals. You can't just walk in and get what you want, you have to spend the better part of a whole day, sometimes more, go through a lot of red tape and be mainly treated by interns/redidents in training..under the supervision of senior docs like Dr. Nitti and Dr. Wicharn but these supervising professors are stretched pretty thin and patients get little face time with them.

They'll have their own set protocols and these may or may not allow for you to get PRP. It is quite different from a private care setting.

You can try to see if Lerdsin has an after hours clinic and if do whether you can meet Dr. Wicharn there (this is where he is based). No guarantees, and even an after hours clinic will be crowded with long waits.

It is hard to impossible to get on demand treatments from a government hospital, even accessing the senior docs directly in an after hours clinic. The regs and protocols don't alliw gor it. Private care is expensive but in private settings the doctors have complete leeway in how to treat (sometimes a good thing and sometimes not).

Dr. Nitti at Ramkamhaeng may be your best option.

If I learn anything from there or elsewhere, I will post it here for reference. Although it doesn't seem like orthopedic PRP is popular yet in Bangkok (the lack of replies to my message is yet another sign), I would guess that it will become more common. In Europe now, it is a fairly common, cost-effective, and in many cases (including mine) successful treatment for joint issues.

No, I don't.

 

There are only a few places you can get it and these are outside of mainstream hospitals etc.

what supplements? How long did it take for pain symptoms to go away?
how much do they costa dn where do you buy?

I take glucosamine (1500mg) and fish oil tablets (3 per day) for arthritis in both knees. One without the other is much less effective.  There are a few days when I need a couple of paracetemol.  I've taken to substituting a couple of spoonfuls of extra virgin olive oil for the fish oil and it works just as well.  I'm pretty much pain free

 Heard this glucosamine comes in high strength Flexacile Ultra.

Also I'm research regenokine ($10,000) and PRP($500)  therapy in Europe.

 

Appears Thailand uses PRP or CRP plasma injection for cosmetic options versus arthritis.

 

  Regenokine injections has shown to reverse and even cure arthritis is some professional athletes but can cost unto $10,000.

I did talk to Ramkamhaeng Hospital Orthopedic Nurse and she quoted 20,000 bhat for one PRP treatment!  In my opinion, it's too expensive!

PRP (with Hyaluronic acid) is available up north at Chiang Mai Ram hospital. I didn't go ahead as price quoted was absolutely hideous for a treatment projected to be effective for 6-9 months.

Hi I've been studying about prp injection in arthritis joints especially in knees, shoulder and ankles. I found a doctor who do prp injection using ultrasound guided machine to guide the injection making the process more accurate and safe. she is a few in Thailand who can do this. normally this doctor works in government hospital and you need to wait at least 3 months to visit but I heard she just opened her own clinic which is great bec we can just call to make appointment and give a visit. the clinic name is Rehabcare clinic, located in Phetkasem road. however you should note she is not an orthopedic doctor, but a rehabilitation and regenerative medicine doctor so she is specialise in treating without surgery. Graduated from the US makes english her second language so overall I think it is worth to pay a visit if you are an expat in Thailand, have pain and interested in prp. hope this helps !
