Murder hunt on after slaying of wealthy and influential couple at their home in Sa Kaew

A murder hunt is underway after a wealthy and well known husband and wife were stabbed to death at their home in the east of Thailand.

 

Both Phiphat Tangpongthong, 71, and his wife Sayan Jantha, 64, were found with multiple stab wounds yesterday.

 

Phiphat was found by a back door while his wife was lying outside the entrance to a storage room 70 meters away.

 

The murder happened at their fenced off, 5 rai property at Ban Thai Pattana in the Klong Hat district of Sa Kaew.

 

The couple were connected to local politicians and had a fortune in excess of 100 million baht.

 

Reporters were denied access to the house as forensics gathered evidence.

 

Klong Hat police indicated that it was likely an execution style murder and revealed that the person or persons responsible had rifled through documents and were looking for something.

 

Region 2 chief Jitti Rortbangyang said it was a serious case at the home of the victims and ordered the police to find those responsible.

 

Daily News reported that seven or eight relatives were helping police with their inquiries.

 

The couple were involved in many kinds of business including having rental property at the Rong Kleua market near the border with Cambodia.
