A top regional policeman has assured tourists and the public that they are addressing issues ranging from drugs to the taxi mafia to foreign dive shops on the Thai southern holiday islands in the Gulf after a meeting.

Some 300 fired complaints at officials as drugs, taxis and encroachment in particular came up for angry discussion.

The meeting in Koh Samui was chaired by Region 4 chief Piyanat Nakwhanich who said after:

"No one is above the law, no nationality is above the law. They can try breaking the law in the next life but not in this one.

"The people can rest assured that we will do our best to sort out the problems facing the islands".

Channel 7 reported that the issue of drugs was central to the meeting.

But also discussed was the taxi mafia, people of influence, encroachment on public land and illegal guides.

A news video first featured an official fielding complaints about foreign dive shops in competition with locals. He said the law had to be followed in regard to this matter.

Dear chief, you do have a really big work to do, taxi mafia (motorbikes, songkews, minibusses, and taxis), dive school: a lot of them paid quite a lot of money to operate, car and motorbike rentals, "tour guides" and and and...good luck!

I could name a few that have left the country aided by those who are supposed to enforce the laws  - perhaps a few baht in an envelope circumvents the law.
