An Australian man who was the victim of a brutal and violent attack at a popular bar in Pattaya on Friday has died, it has been confirmed.

The man, who has been identified by Australian media as Benjamin Robb from Melbourne, died in Pattaya Memorial Hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning, the Herald Sun reported, after suffering catastrophic injuries to his face and head.

He died from “internal bleeding and severe facial damage as a result of sustained impact to his cranium and skull”, it was reported.

Mr Robb’s attacker, who is reporedly an American tourist in his late twenties, initially fled the scene but handed himself into police hours later.

On Sunday, Thaivisa exclusively reported the incident which took place in the Ruby Club on Soi 6 at approximate 6.30pm on Friday 9 Feb.

According to witnesses, Mr Robb became invovled in a confrontation with group of men, one of whom attacked him, throwing him across the room, punching him in his face and stomping on his head “10 to 15 times”.

Witnesses recalled the group then laughing and taking photos of Mr Robb as he lay unconcious and severly injured on the floor.

The Ruby Club has since released a statement confirming the incident took place:

“An altercation lasting less than 20 seconds between two customers on Friday night resulted in one person being taken to hospital with serious looking injuries, which sadly resulted in him passing away in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“The other individual involved handed himself in to police and it is understood he is to remain in custody until a court appearance in 10 days or so.

“Whilst our thoughts remain with the victims relatives, we would also like to thank the emergency services for their prompt and professional attention in dealing with the incident.”

Cowardly and disgraceful in the extreme. Hope the killer gets a sentence somewhere in the 50 year range.  Clearly a person who can't hack his drink and has seemingly that little intelligence to know that more than maybe a couple of head kicks is all it takes to end a life.  Feel bad for the victim's family. Hope the soi doesn't get cracked down on too hard, whether we like it or not it is easily Pattaya's 2nd busiest attraction.  Without it a lot of folks will be out of a job. This is an out of the ordinary attack imo. Sad all round

Hope those Ugly Americans rot in a filthy Thai jail: the attacker for life, his thug buddies for at least 10 years.

I didn't see a photo so I don't know if the American is ugly or not.   American law allows for holding Americans overseas liable for crimes that are committed there and that break USA laws.  So, depending on the circumstances, lawyers, politicians, etc.  many things could happen to this man.

What can you say? a man goes o n holiday goes into a bar for a drink and end up dead, and all for the fact that people can't just keep themselves out of troubles anywhere they go, now one is dead and the other has his life and future ruined forever....

Whatever the US laws may say, this yank killed an Australian on Thai soil.  Hope he will rot in prison in Thailand and then burn in hell. Kicking a man's head when he is down is the most despicable act imaginable.  His bloody US friends should get a long time in prison also, for not stopping the idiot, for not helping the victim, leaving him and for making pictures.  Bastards of the lowest order, all of them.

Rest in peace mate my prayer is that are  with our saviour Jesus Christ and that your family will some how receive some comfort knowing that this madman will receive the penalty worthy of taking away your life. I appeal to the authorities to hand down the maximum penalty

With all due respect to the Aussie this American guy must be one strong guy to throw a full grown man across the room and beat him in 20 seconds.. Strong fast and hard. He would scare the jesus out of me.

Sounds like you admire this animal. We have no idea of the size of the guy killed, could have been 5' tall and weighed 50 kilos.

This weird animal should live at Bangkok Hilton for the rest of his life. Stomping 10 to 15 times on his head when already down? Insane.

So many times, we never learn the outcome of such deadly encounters.  There is always a suspicion that deals are done.

For instance, 6 or 7 years ago,  a Finnish man was walking his dog on Soi Diana. Some girl in a beer bar ran out and picked up the dog.  Words were exchanged between the girls BF and the Finn...the Finn ended up stabbed to death.  It was big news at the time but then disappeared.  Never learned what happened to the killer.

I can think of at least 4 or 5 similar high profile killings, farang on farang or farang on Thai GF that faded away...outcome never known.

It would not surprise me if it happens in this instance as well.

Why do bad things happen in such nice places?

Yeah, don´t we all agree. Such a nice and morally right environment, this little beautiful and pittoresque picture is showing of a landscape containing an overcommersialized street buildt to promote overdriven alcohol consumption and the sex industry.

What? You won't have a beer with people because their relatives have made something against the law? How does that make them to criminals?

Does that mean that you wouldn't have a beer with one of Jackie Chan's kids because their grandmother was a convicted heroin dealer? You can't be serious.

nope not serious, thats why i marked it sarcasm,  i was responding to Allen Ginsing`s post and he  apparently won t.

A one line Pattaya bashing troll post has been removed.

Further across the board, Pattaya bashing for no reason will be removed and that member will earn a suspension, bar fights happen all over the world.
