Photos from police Facebook post.

Yesterday, in a rural part of Isaan, something strange was spotted by by local police.

Adding a new dimension to the ongoing debate about Westerners from developed countries begging in Southeast Asia to find their travels, was a pair of Asian begpackers in elephant pants and tourist tops hanging around by a roadside with signs, including one that said “No Money.”

This is the first known viral reporting of Asian begpackers and they turned out to be from the wealthy nation of Japan.

When caught, the two young men were all smiles, revealing that they were Japanese college students and posing for pictures with police, who offered them cold water and advice about safe travel.

Go home, get a job, and come back when you have some money of your own.

Go home , work all your life , save your money and then come to live in Thailand and give all your money to a woman , then start begging again

I thought Japanese would commit seppuku before lowering to begging. Yet another nation going down the drain with the attack of hipster millenials?

Get a haircut and get a real job.

Yes George, thorough good advice.

What? Not even trying to sell their holiday pics? This is unacceptable.

Sheesh!  I thought it was only the low class Europeans and Americans doing it, but now the Asians are getting in on the act.

:shock1:

Whenever there is money to be made. :cheesy:

I heard someone bought them roast chicken. One of the begpackers commented, "Chicken rubbery."

The vendor said, "Oh, thank you velly much."

I always carry a elf-designed folded placard in my back pocket. Whenever I come across an Asian begpacker who holds up to me a sign reading "No money", I take it out, unfold it and show it to them. Mine reads: "Me neither".

What's the problem here with the crafty teens trying to rip off cash from bystanders ? If people are that naive and gullible (perhaps a bit stupid) to give money on such requests, why not try their luck ?
