Pakkarapol Channual, 12, who had been playing football with his friends in front of Thung Saliem School in Thung Saliem district, drowned at about 5.30pm. Rescuers took about 25 minutes to find his body on the bed of the canal. They attempted to revive him with CPR and sent him to the district hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The boy’s friends told police that their ball fell into the canal, so Pakkarapol offered to retrieve it. However, he disappeared under the water not long after he got into the two-metre deep canal.
