WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Senate committee approved the nomination of President Donald Trump's choice for secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, on Monday after a Republican senator who had been opposed threw his support behind the CIA director in the face of party pressure.

TORONTO (Reuters) - A Toronto police officer who refused to shoot the man suspected of plowing a van into crowds of pedestrians on Monday, killing 10 people, was praised for restraint in the face of a suspect who claimed to have a gun.

Police revealed that they lured the drug dealer by saying they wanted to buy 200 amphetamine pills.

Forestry official died in fall, not abducted

Investigators have determined that Karun Wansawang, an employee of the Royal Thai Forestry Department originally believed to have been abducted, died from a head injury sustained in an accidental 20-metre fall while catching fish and frogs in a Mae Hong Son woodland.
