Gamblers fled in panic as a group of ten kamnans and phoo yai baan raided a ten day temple ordination fair in Lam Ken sub district of Phangnga yesterday.

Top target was a Chinese wheel of fortune game run by Songrit, 33. he hurriedly put his stash of cash in a bag but could not get away.

His customers fled in all directions melting into the crowds, reported Sanook.

The local authorities also found lots of other gambling and fairground games going on such as bingo and shooting galleries for money.

Prizes included beer, spirits and cigarettes - items frowned upon at temples.

The police were called and the miscreants that were still on the scene were rounded up and taken in for prosecution.

Old folks playing cards; might be money involved arrest them ! Yet horse racing and betting is fine... Bar patrons playing darts, might be money involved so arrest them and outlaw the game ! Yet horse racing and betting are fine...

To be honest, they might as well just give up on the anti-gambling thing here and tolerate it plus tax it and make money for government coffers, as it's just so common in so many forms with the locals that the authorities are high if they think they can do anything about it. Most people probably don't even realise just how much a part of life it is for the average Thai and it can't be stopped.

Yet more armchair stereotyping.

Nothing worse than furniture generalizations, I myself prefer the old fashioned arm chairs with wings you could take a snooze in after being bored almost to the point of tears after perusing all the bickering here.

No gambling involved in cock fighting either but it seems to thrive. :saai:

It is the bridge players and darters who are the worst offenders!
