About 100 volunteers took part in a three-day cleaning operation at Koh Khai Beach in Pathiu district and the Lom Phraya Pier in Muang district of Chumphon.

King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) rector Suchatvee Suwansawat presided over the event, which is part of Tambon Chumkho Municipality community development.

The project, which began on Monday and ends on Wednesday, involves KMITL Chumporn Khet Udomsak campus, the Tambon Chumkho Municipality and the Betagro Group.

Participants collected garbage from the beach and separated the trash before it was taken by boat for disposal on the mainland. They also released blue crabs and sea turtles 2 kilometres offshore and built an artificial reef.

Don't need volunteers. Just pick up the lazy Thais who don't work. Then they should have heaps of workers. In fact, they would have thousands.

First you would have to get them to understand the concept of trash. After that, the next problem would be establishing just a little respect for those people who they feel are stupid enough to pick up. DIY is just so much less hassle.
