Local authorities and the military in Prachuap Khiri Khan raided a house in a pineapple plantation where they detained 36 gamblers playing the Thai card game Pok Deng.

Taken into evidence were two card shufflers and other evidence of gambling. Some 111,710 baht in all denominations from 1000 to 5 baht coins was seized.

The owner of the house - hidden deep in the fields - is Somchai Thongnak, 64.

But no one owned up to being in charge.

Writing in account books found at the scene indicated that it was a very profitable operation netting 100,000s of baht.

Thai Rath said that the gamblers were all members of a Line group who would arrange to meet at selected locations to gamble.

They were all handed over to the local police for prosecution.

Thaivisa notes that Pok Deng is a Thai gambling game in which players use digit count to attempt to beat the dealer taking into account pairs, three of a kind and flushes.
