A motorcycle taxi driver in full public view in Pattaya was filmed kicking a German tourist in the face.

According to Pattaya News the tourist who had been involved in a police stop outside Pattaya police station had raised his finger to the "win" rider.

A video showed him being kicked in the face as he tried to move his motorcycle that had been locked.

Pattaya police confirmed that Sunthorn Saengkham, 48, was arrested and charged. He claimed that the tourist - Adreas Bruer - was trying to flee the scene.

Police said that Mr Bruer had been stopped at the checkpoint but was found to be carrying only a German driving license and was given a ticket.

Mr Bruer has decided not to press his own charges in the incident that was widely viewed on Thai social media.

Following the kicking several Thais came in to help the tourist saying that violence was not the answer.

Last week Pattaya police announced they would be stopping tourists who did not have proper documentation while renting vehicles at the resort.

It amazes me that taxi drivers on 4 or 2 wheels get public service licences; they then drive without lights; break all manner of safe driving rules; are never apprehended by Pattaya Plod; get to indulge in all kinds of intimidating behaviour; do not use their meters against the laws of the land; besmirch Pattaya's reputation as a 'World Class Resort' and are never prosecuted.

Let's hope they also stop all the Thais who drive whilst drunk or drugged, or without a licence or any training or any competence, or without any regard for other road users.

And having stopped all these people, let's hope that they are given real fines and not just a slap on the wrist.

It would be nice to also read that he was fined heftily, acting as a deterrent to other violent people, but, alas, it ain't going to happen.

Pattaya taxi motorcyclist fined for assaulting German tourist

By The Nation

A taxi motorcyclist was fined for kicking and punching a German tourist in the face in front of the Pattaya police station Wednesday.

Pol Capt Chanikarn Phuanpinit, an officer of the Pattaya Police station, said Sunthorn Saenkham, 48, was fined shortly after the attack, which was captured on a video clip that was widely shared on Facebook.

Chanikarn said the motorcyclist claimed the tourist was abusive to him first.

Chanikarn said the tourist, whose name was not disclosed, parked his rented motorcycle in violation of the parking ban. Its wheel had been locked and the police were about to take it to the police station where he would have to pay a fine before the bike was released.

The tourist attempted to resist the seizure of the motorcycle by trying to lift it away when the taxi motorcyclist attacked him.

The clip showed that Sunthorn came from nowhere and kicked the tourist in the face and punched him.

The Facebook post generated a lot of criticism against the taxi motorcyclist. One Facebook user said the motorcycle taxi stand at that spot was notorious for demanding high fees from motorists after their vehicles were locked for violating parking bans. The taxi motorcyclists would them offer to take them to the police station. Arguments inevitably ensued if the car owners refused to use the service, the post said.

Looks like he was a police lacky / suckup who was helping lock up the bikes and the idiot German was actually doing what?

Many of the motorcycle taxis drivers are also "police volunteers"  they also act as informal "neighbourhood watch" or human CCTV.

The guy with sunglasses and black baseball hat who rides in on the Honda Dream ( with police plates ? )

says " hey who's been doing this again, what type of police are you, you've been told before to respect the tourists......someone sniggers.

The whole story is awkward. First article says he was fined for not having a driving license. Second article about that his bike has been parked wrong and therefore locked by police. Then comes some motorcycle taxi men into play who obviously report riders to the police and then overcharging for a ride to the police station?

And I don't believe that nothing happened before the clip.

And what is the German guy trying to do? Drag the motorcycle somewhere or remove the lock by his bare hands?

Stupid meets stupid is the best title for this video...

I don't catch motor taxis, minivans or  motorcycle anymore, I would rather hire a motorbike or motor vehicle than feed this lot of cheap gutless wanna be mafia, perhaps if we all did the same when away from home, the industry might start getting cleaned up.

Well its always good to dream, and by not supporting them, means I am doing my part, F the lot of them.

And here comes the real joke:

How many Thais (motorbike jockey's, trucker, mini bus driver etc.) would pass an equivalent test required, to achieve a German driving license?

German should be made to apologize and wai to the Thai people for making his face accessible to a sucker kick by a motorcycle taxi driver.

Being sucker kicked this way can reflect badly on the Thai reputation and negatively affect tourism.

Motorcycle indicators don't turn off automatically nor do they make sound. Riders often forget to turn them off after a turn.

That's why every time I see someone  on a bike with an indicator flashing I press the cancel button on mine even then I sometimes forget to cancel...naughty naughty instant fail on UK driving test.

Yes, the cowardly act of kicking a someone in the face whilst they're not looking. The Thai mans answer to bravery.

Agree, cowardly behavior .....but this time he attacked alone, normally they are ten against one foreigner.  Another nail in Thailand's coffin as tourist destination.
