PHUKET: The International Surf Lifesaving Association (ISLA) has issued a damming Global Travel Warning for Phuket due to what it describes as “unsafe, unguarded beaches”.

A post on the ISLA Facebook page yesterday (May 24) said the warning was issued following a “comprehensive 30-day beach audit of Phuket’s beaches [that] was conducted in April and May of this year.

“[Of] the following popular beaches, 17 out of 18, failed the audit: Rawai; Nai Harn; Kata Noi; Kata; Karon; Freedom Beach; Kamala; Kalim; Laem Singh; Surin; Pansea; Bangtao; Layan; Leypang; Nai Thon; Nai Yang; and Mai Khao.

The problem starts at the shore line and spreads inland like a huge rash covering every walk of life. They would score well on facebook usage though, they need to counteract this immediately with a report on how good Thais are with social networking, selfie shots and food photos, that's my work for the day done, hand me those stripes baby.

I thought I read and see pics the other week of a bunch on new life guards being welcomed to Phuket or were they just market traders in yellow tshirt.questions should be asked who paid the grant and who to? My bets is somchai has paid it out to cousin somchai who's then run around looking for a dozen or somchais who want to hang out on the beaches for 500baht a day each but none of them can swim.its unbelievable how millions of tourists come for the beaches and they've managed to cock up the safety of these people.all it takes to man these beaches is 3 men.one with a tower and binoculars, one on a jet ski with ropes, rubber rings, first aid kit and one patrolling the shore line all with coms.2,000b a day a beach.1 million per beach would be ample.some like leam sing are tiny and only need two.its not rocket science but then again TiT.

tourist swimmers are likely safer at beaches with the most surfers in water and sitting on beach because this group will likely be most effective to help anyone in trouble. of course swimmers also risk being hit by boards. just a natural instinct

surfers come to the aid of fellow surfers and swimmers. is that a difficult or confusing concept to understand?

Well done to the mayor and councillors you've really <deleted> up this one, all because the friend of the friend of one of you lot all can't agree on the amount to be put in the brown envelope. This stigma will not go away over night.  Get real people you are playing with peoples lives here wake up to yourselves.

The wrath of a facebook post, is it stronger than the "Official processes" that are the cause of the current problems.

Not to worry the 140 mill worth of cctv cameras should fix the problem.

Face book instant = instant

Government instant = 5-20 year plan, after a year of debate.
