Drunken Bike Rider Kills Schoolboy

At fifteen past midnight on 31st January the Dongtan police were informed that an accident occurred at the curve of Thepprasit Soi 5 (Soi Jurarat). People were injured and someone was killed.

At the dark curve the police found two smashed Honda Click and Wave motorbikes. The boy, Charoen-Phong, aged 14, was lying dead on the road with a broken neck. He was still wearing his school uniform and later it was found he is police volunteer’s son.

Not far from the deceased boy, three other injured people were found, Mr. Damrong – 24, Mr. Surasak – 17, and Miss Nophamart – 15. All were in a serious condition so were immediately taken to the hospital.

So far, the police found out that Mr. Damrong who was drunk was speeding on his Honda Click. When he reached the curve, he crashed and his bike slid and hit the other bike that had three passengers. The boy, Charoen-Phong was the driver and was hit with the full force of the bike.

Many wonder: should the boy have been driving and at such time of the day with three people on the bike?

However, more investigation and questioning will be made once the injured people recover from hospital.

very sad.

but how long before the police get it into their stupid heads and understand that until they enforce the motoring laws (regarding helmets , alcohol and numbers of passengers on bikes) and punish offenders severely and uniformly then these accidents will just continue to happen regularly.

Very true, tax, but my impression is that the police don't give a toss about road safety. They do give a toss about money though.

Maximum of two people on the bike too.

What a tragic waste of young lifes. The idea of either of my daughters riding bikes fills me with horror. I truly don't understand why, when the police are in our soi virtually daily, the number of helmetless bike riders has not decreased. :o

It is a terrible loss…sadly Drink Driving seems to be socially accepted in Thailand, any holiday and the death rates are plain crazy from drink related accidents

Many tourists too, who would never even take alcohol and then drive back home; here just seem to think it’s not a problem ?? Of course until it all goes terribly wrong

Strong anti drink drive measures are needed and that means prison time & realistic fines…not the 10,000 baht

The full traffic rules need overhauling…as do the police, checking tourists for driving license etc at mid afternoon on beach road………time would be better spent doing real checkpoints after 10 p.m

Where these children were killed is just one big race track… no wonder someone is hurt or killed everyday…just look at the fresh police spray paint on the roads every morning

R.I.P :o

Almost a repeat of last week when 2 x 14 yo kids were killed by a drunk driver. Again it was after midnight, again they had no helmets and again they were only 14.

One day, maybe, the Police will realise that enforcing sensible laws is sometimes a good thing to do.
