"Big Joke" - he's no joke! Top cop is the real deal for putting public confidence back in the Thai police

It's a great PR show. But in the broader scheme of things, it doesn't end up changing the overall way the RTP operates all around the country one little bit.

All the same stuff still goes on. All the same stuff still gets ignored. All those with influence are still immune. But some misc foreigners get scooped up and a few insignificant Thais along the way.

Any schools prosecuted and/or closed for issuing improper student visas or failing to require attendance by their students?  Any pay for play visa agents arrested for shortcutting Immigration rules? Anything serious been done to crack down on no meter or overcharging taxis at the airports?  Seen any press conferences about those kinds of arrests? Nope, Nope and Nope... And the list could go on from there.

And of course, every time he shows up in the news, there's a new big banner behind the assembled mass with a big smiling photo of you know who. Just hope the TPB isn't overrunning their banner printing budget for the year.

He is just a self centred publicity seeking fool.  Tours the country with an entourage for photo ops and dinner engagements with the media in tow. Not actually doing any investigations.

It doesn't matter, does it? He is highlighting that people breaking the law are being sought out and dealt with. Anything wrong with that? Of course that is seen, as the headline says, putting public confidence back. It's a piss in the ocean but at least it's better that that nothing at all.

Sorry about the second quote below. A keyboard fart.

Wonder if the photograping left him with emotional scars .......

emotional scars, only if he is a PC bleeding heart - and I don't believe that ..

I’d like to see this clown put in a class of 100 international peers & see how well he does.

Maybe 98th or 99th.

“Faith in Thai police”, now thats a big joke right there!

You may be surprised at how well he could perform in a country with far better resources and much stronger rule of law. How well do you think any of those international peers would do in the RTP? They would be brought into line within days of arrival and be forced to keep their heads down to avoid any conflict. He has to work within the present police culture which restricts what actions he can take. Instead of belittling him, he should be encouraged, which may inspire others to also move things in the right direction. Then one day we may have faith in the police.

We all know what is wrong with the RTP,  now tell us who is doing more to turn things around.

Now you've become a big joke.

Most international police receive strict, disciplined training & of course study law & criminal codes .

Take a look at Interpol for example.

A Thai cop would be a sinking ship & quit within a month because it would be too difficult & demanding. Something Thais can’t handle.

Is he doing anything to actually turn around the serious problems in the RTP, or just creating the false impression that law enforcement is being done and thus lessening the public pressure for real, meaningful change?

I know where my vote would be.

You think arresting a bunch of Africans and Uzbeks has ANYTHING to do with dealing with the real, serious problems that beset the RTP?  It's doesn't even in the slightest.

Agree, many things need a total upgrade, review, reform whatever in the RTP.

Is it this guys job to design massive reforms? No. In fact he would probably get scolded severely if he stepped that far.

On the other hand put some blame where it should be for lack of progress in seen noticed valuable reforms where it should be, the current top cop who should be at the forefront on at least a major internal clean-up, what has he done in 3 years?

He couldn't even get the cops to obey his orders to get a haircut.

You're the joke if you think he is just like normal Thai cops.

As I said, given the same resources he probably would do as well. He is a cut above your normal Thai cop.

As I also said, how long would your western trained cop last in the RTP? Probably less than a month. Too much corruption and incompetency something they can't handle.

I'd be incredibly surprised if he could perform simple arithmetic without a calculator.

What do you base that on?

If it's arithmetic (with or without a calculator) it would be Base 10 - decimal.

(sorry!)

Probably watching many Thais in shops having to do it.

3 + 2 = ?

Hang on a minute... alright - who stole me calculator?

I went into the village shop.

Picked up three large Leos at 60 Baht each. Gave the woman 200 Baht, telling her I needed 20 Baht change.

She got her calculator out, did the same calculation, looked amazed she had the same result, asking how I knew that.

Sadly they're not encouraged to think for themselves.

It appears that there isn't anywhere outside his jurisdiction, which suggests this is being orchestrated, because other police wouldn't normally like to have their toes stepped on so often. It will be interesting to watch how this all unfolds. Definitely politics in the future. Maybe the new face of a pro military party.

Last time this came up, remember seeing he was heading up a special task force, which is to say a PR task force, intent on giving Thais a favorable impression. Thais don't seem so easily convinced, hence the play on his name, Jok, and now this article seems like an attempt to redeem him after a lot of jokes at his expense.

Otherwise, a tourist cop wouldn't be flouncing around up in Issan busting a Thai guy running a pedo website, any more than an Immigration cop would take it upon himself to direct traffic.  It's just not their rice bowl.

The Police General is doing a great job.

But it would be much acclaimed from the entire Thai society, if he would boost up and speed up the anti corruption divisions that would take immediate action against corrupt cops, immigration officers or other officials.

Obviously for those hinting for money, but also to punish the officers wo make up their own rules, to hassle with red tape, with obvious intentions to get a bribe.

“He’s a cut above your normal Thai cop”

Please stop. Your RTP boot licking is admirable.

You’ve set the bar way too high now.

Earlier in time, this man had some credibility. Some even took him seriously, as a lone crusader against corruption and bad deeds. No more. The little bit of credibility he may have once had has been thrown out the window. He has been revealed to be a phony, a fraud, a liar, and a stooge, for an administration that is so desperate to maintain tourist arrivals, they will say or do just about anything. This guy is now an international joke. A scam artist.

Millions know what goes on on Dark Tao. And now millions know what a lightweight big joke is. Rather than admitting there could be a problem within their midst, they attempt to demonize the victim. What can one even say? Authoritarianism at best, and hooliganism at worst. Regardless, it is utterly shameful behavior. This administration is in desperate need of a very high priced PR agency. They shoot themselves in the foot daily with their inane statements, bizarre proclamations, dumb crackdowns, and ineffective governance. Now, add to the list of misdeeds, an attack against a victim of crime within the nation. Real men take responsibility, perform the actions required, and do what they need to do to fix a problem. Children, and wannabe fascists pretend the problem does not exist, deflect, obfuscate, and make up stories about fake news, and go after publishers of that news, and victims.

This man has no interest in fighting crime. He is merely an instrument, in the ongoing effort to appear to make this administration look concerned, and effective. They continue to be just the opposite, by displaying a contempt for the rule of law, a gross degree of incompetence, and total disregard for the common man.
