As you know, difficult to get doctors to refute or criticize another doctor, especially in the same jurisdiction. I have not been in agreement with a few "ideas" that the doctors i have seen gave me. To blindly ( pardon the pun) follow someones prognosis without thought or other opinions can lead to mistakes. Ultimately we must try to figure it out.....and despite what some members think I find some good opinions and first hand experience here at times. ( i will say that the glaucoma "specialist" you mentioned i found to not consider all the criteria and did also recommend something else that I do not think is necessary. Of course on this public forum i will not elaborate. I did change .... to Dr Rachada who has impressed me ! Unfortunately she is not a macula specialist and she suggested i see one from her exam ( first dr mentioned nothing ). So then it was the next Dr. who just yesterday I saw and suggested this surgery... she said there was damage but did not say it was horrible. And as i mention, my sight is quite good. Yes, my eyes feel a little strange sometimes but nothing serious that i notice. And vision is good. I will continue with xalatan for now and see Dr rachada again in a month to discuss . Thanks again. I do not like the risk involved in surgery.......and am completely in the dark about which surgeon I would choose. Its not the heart or the brain.... but the eyes are pretty darn important to ones well-being. Even the professionals are not sure about whether to operate or not, and i think complex equipment and analysis are required to really make the best decision. James2020 Posted December 23, 2018 Share Posted December 23, 2018 IOPs of 16/14 sound good to me, unless you have low tension glaucoma, with VF changes or optic cups enlarging, in spite of pressures in the normal range. It usually takes several months of observation to determine that. I am not a fan of epiretinal membrane surgery unless vision is 20/50, preferably worse. 20/40 vision is often considered a 'good' result, although some patients do better. You report 'good' vision, but so do some people with 20/200 - vision is subjective. Find a doctor that you trust, then go with their advice. I had a severe sore throat and my eyes were strongly red all the time after just 10-12 days of using it. Than I came back and I told about all side effects. After that conversation my doctor prescribed me Xalatan and I am really content now! It's my third week of using it and i don't have any side effects. No sore throat, no headache, no weakness, no muscle pain, no redness.
