Billpro785
Thinking about getting a inguinal hernia repaired. As my insurance will not cover it, thinking of going the gov't hospital route. Which hospital in Thailand would you suggest ? Have about 2 months I could move to that area and get it done. Was going to budget around 25,000 to 50,000 baht for the operation. Sheryl
Your budget will work for open repair but might not for laparoscopic. Bioth approaches will work, just more of an incision and longer recovery time with open procedure. Just so you know. If you can go anywhere, then Chulalongkorn or Siriraj in Bangkok, these are the best of the best, but using the public channel there will likely be a long wait list.If they can't fit you in within 2 months (possible), any regional level or military hospital should suffice, would help to know which provinces you'll be in. Keep in mind you'll need to rest for a while afterwards so should have this done somewhere you can stay put for a week or two.

Do you know which government hospital is best for hernia repairs? Are there any other hospitals with similar cost to a government hospital that would be better to use? Thanks so much
Sheryl
There are no private hospitals with cost similiar to government hospitals, always at least 2-3 times the cost, sometimes 4-5 times as much. There are however semi-private channels for accessing government hospitals which reduce waits and ensure direct treatment by senior doctors rather than by trainees. Cost a little more but not that much more than public channel. In Chiang Mai go to Sripat ("Special Medical Services" section of CMU Hospital) https://www.chiangmai-thai.com/smsc.htm
