Remember seeing a doc' few years on the TV where they wired up a rider with one of those mini heart monitor things .. Upto 4 beats a SECOND he was recording on the flat out bits .. And Pete Hickman's lap record last year with an ave speed of 135 mph beggars belief you could ave' that speed over 37 miles of public highway .. Great stuff ..

I have the 60's-70's Montesa, Ossa & Bultaco workshop manuals here for all the 175-250-350 models.

The basic motor structure remained the same for all street to enduro to motocross to trials bikes.

The differences were in barrel porting and carb sizes, g/box ratios, sprocket ratios and C/R's.

An example being a Bultaco trials 250 with 16 bhp, 26mm carb,  and a 7:1 CR, or the enduro version with 39 bhp (THIRTY-NINE BRAKE HORSE POWER!!!), 32mm carb and 14:1 C/R....

This bike was built for and commissioned by an art gallery/motorcycle museum, by Craig Rodsmith, IMO, the greatest current bike builder on the planet. His talent in sheet alloy is insane. Being an Aussie, he also has a wicked sense of humour. Plenty of him & his work on YT.

Still did'nt make it a good brake...

BSA/Triumph went from the best TLS drum front brake ever fitted to a mass produced production bike anywhere, ever, the 68-70 model, to the worst TLS ever fitted to anything, the 71-74 version. Only an idiot in the death throes of a dying empire/factory could come up with such a ridiculous design.

Still looked good though.........

The only similarity in design is that they are both called drum brakes. There the similarity ends.

If you are remotely interested, check out how both cams are operated and in which direction both lever arms are operated.

One works well and as it should, the other is a pretty hideous acid induced nightmare of design fallability.

Not strictly bike but my mate Dean who's as full on a Kawasaki disciple you will find worked for B R back in the day so I claim that as a very tenuous link .. 

Ever been in a station when one of these came thundering through or even better when pulling away from the platform with the 'chargers whistling .? 

This is what powered it x 2 ..

the Napier Deltic .. from the 50's when we were still pretty good at engineering and making stuff .. 

18 opposed pistons , 2 stroke supercharged diesel rated at upto 1650 hp each driving DC generators that powered electric traction motors at the drive bogie .. Sort of a Heavy Metal hybrid if you will .. 

These used to haul coal up a slight gradient to the steelworks over the way when I were a lad and the noise they made ( not to mention smoke ) was awesome and one of the earliest things that got me into all things mechanical .. 

Middle pic' is an end elevation to try and give hint on how they work though there's loads more on the 'netty .. Sermon on long lost now defunct brilliant bits of Brit' engineering now finished .. Amen
