Upto 4 beats a SECOND he was recording on the flat out bits .. And Pete Hickman's lap record last year with an ave speed of 135 mph beggars belief you could ave' that speed over 37 miles of public highway .. The B31 is just a nice simple working man's bike, designed to last the lifetime of the owner, the V7 Guzzi is interesting in that it is one of the first civilian models released, a rare '67, with matching engine & frame numbers in the 2000 something, in itself a rarity quite valuable. Sir, you impugn my, admittedly poor to begin with, character. I was pointing out a design feature of the brake, namely the air scoop. No endorsement of the efficacy, quality or effectiveness of the brake was given, either explicitly, implicitly or tacitly. Furthermore, the failings of the brake should in no way detract from the point of posting the bike, which was to expose the forum to the beauty of the Bonneville in question. Made by the originally East German, and now defunct, MZ Motorrad. They look like MZ ETZ 502 models. The East Germans had arguably the best two stroke technology at the time, and MZ were major players in motorcycle racing in the 50's, until their champion rider, Ernst Degner, defected to the West in 1961. He got a job with Suzuki, moved to Japan and won them their first GP championship in 1962. All outlined in the interesting book “Stealing Speed,” by Mat Oxley. Obviously no more money for a design team... An EMW (Eisenacher Motorenwerk) R35, made in a BMW factory that was on the east side of the border when the country was partitioned. Ever been in a station when one of these came thundering through or even better when pulling away from the platform with the 'chargers whistling .? This is what powered it x 2 .. the Napier Deltic .. from the 50's when we were still pretty good at engineering and making stuff .. 18 opposed pistons , 2 stroke supercharged diesel rated at upto 1650 hp each driving DC generators that powered electric traction motors at the drive bogie .. Sort of a Heavy Metal hybrid if you will .. These used to haul coal up a slight gradient to the steelworks over the way when I were a lad and the noise they made ( not to mention smoke ) was awesome and one of the earliest things that got me into all things mechanical .. Middle pic' is an end elevation to try and give hint on how they work though there's loads more on the 'netty .. Sermon on long lost now defunct brilliant bits of Brit' engineering now finished ..
