more bike porn

It's based on the current V7, which runs the shaft thru the dinky alloy s/arm on the right. Same as the V50 (500cc inc the famous Monza)and V35 (350cc) the bike is based on from the late 70's. These were designated the "small twins" from the factory.
 The bike below is based on a big twin Ballagio, with Guzzi's version of a single side swing arm. The same s/arm as fitted below on a custom Griso model. A year or two ago, i spied a 4V or 8V (can't remember) new grey import 100% legit Griso in a BKK dealers on their website. A cool 990,000 Thai Baht. Considering what you get over here for a mil, i thought it was a bargain. Wanted it badly. Did'nt have a mil.
 Never ever seen nor heard of a Guzzi v twin as we know it (ie mid 60's onwards) with a chain conversion.

@ThaiGuzzi - I don’t have the credentials you do, and have not ridden a Monster. Monster was what my gear head friend recommended if I wanted the Scrambler engine.

Have you ridden Scramblers? I am sticking to my comments on poor balance, poor maneuverability and poor Ducati service.

Nice looking bike that mate .. I'm digging the oil tank and minimalist exhausts .. No drum brakes about .?Is that you're gaff in Thailand as the backdrop .. 

 

Yea the Apollo looks a bit of a porker but an interesting concept for the time nonetheless .. 

 

Yeah I've heard the Panther max' speed was pretty much the same solo or sidecar .. But sadly along with just about everyone else they slipped beneath the waves ..

3/4's of a brick .. Not you're usual first choice for cooling out but that is a nice paint job on the tank .. Had a blast on one of these back in the day from Gloucester to Brighton unbelievably smooth for a 3 and quite punchy at 70/80 mph ..

Much as i love my Vincents dearly, im not sure that it is an improvement over an air cooled 2V Ducati motor. Certainly valve clearance services should be quicker, but that is about it, as the air cooled Desmo 2V Ducati motor is reknowned for ease of service and longevity. And is also a looker in it's own right.

 Beautiful motorcycle though.

   I'm pretty sure i've seen a Ducati motor on the net in a Vincent rolling chassis with Vincent tinware also.

My thoughts Guzz' .. as you say the original Duke lump wasn't too shabby anyway .. On looks there's not a lot to choose between them as the Vinnie engine is a thing of beauty .. I put it up as it its quite an unusual crossover .. I'll go look later for Vinnie's with Duke engines ..

If you have ever seen one of these engines close up, internally & externally, you can see what an impressive, massive bit of kit they are. Magnificent 90mm stroke....

And then we get the "new revelation, the 2018 emasculated, counterbalanced, 270 degree, short stroke PC correct retro-saddo-thingy"...

Meanwhile here's another proper engine. Very popular with my mates in England...

Jawohl. 2300cc. Or lets say 2 point 3 litre. It sounds better.

No one is bothered about the bhp figures. Everyone just goes on about the STOCK 165 Ibft of torque baby!

Yawn.  If you want horsepower, you need to drive a car.

 

8.2 liter V-8. Around 10,000 horsepower, with torque around 7,500 lb-ft (with peak measured at 12,000 lb-ft ). Pretty peppy, too. 0-500+ km/hr in 3.8 seconds.

Maintenance isn't too bad.  Just a rebuild about every 5 seconds of run time or 300 meters, whichever comes first.  Stuff like the crankshaft may last a minute or 3 km.
