Yeah i did, obviously damaged prior to cutting it about, i was not going to waste a perfect primary cover. The whole point of a belt drive, apart from lightness, apart from dry, no oil, is to.... SHOW IT OFF!! Yeah, originally post 76 all Triumphs were L/H gear change, mine included, being a 79, but i wanted the trad R/H change which also saves a couple of kilos, so the brake is on the left. Master cylinder, like both on the bars (hydraulic non std clutch) are by Magura (German). This shot shows the g/change back in it's trad place. 8 hours ago, Justgrazing said: Functional cool old Ural .. Just noticed the motor is a flattie. And the clamps attaching the front pipes to the head are a neat touch .. Yea the old Ural has a kind of Communist chic to it and not unlike the AK47 fairly indestructible and sh*t easy to maintain and fettle .. In that pic, the alloy g/change lever, footrest, alloy head steady, tank steady, horn brkt, and inlet manifolds (4 in total) are all made with my own fair hands. The mag adjustable handle with brass lever also made by me, but have gone back to a plain allen head. Oil tank is in the process of coming off and being modified as i type this, spout being cut off and a new spout in s/steel and an alloy cap made. Then down to the local s/s gate manufacturers to weld it up. The fuel tank has been retired (last week) and now hangs on the wall next to the previous one it replaced. Had a tiny leak at the rear when full, and i was'nt prepared to repair it, as i would have lost the paint job. New tank winging it's way here from India as i speak...

Meaty rear caliper on it as well Sir .. The rear shocks are they air adjustable ones looking at the small blue fitting at the top and to the rear just below the seat .. And the two braided hoses exiting on the other side at the rear of the seat is one the crankcase breather and the other a vent from the oil tank .? Looks a real nice paint job on the petrol tank so yea I can get why you didn't want to try and repair a pin hole .. You have a lathe for making some of those bits I'll take it .. In all mate a very nice looking bike that also sounds like it goes like the proverbial with stopping power to match ..

In all mate a very nice looking bike that also sounds like it goes like the proverbial with stopping power to match .. Thank you kind sir. Caliper is same make as the front, a British company still running, called Billet Brakes, and a 4 pot, front is a 6 pot. Disc is a lightened stock cast iron Triumph item. Rear shocks are French Fournales and are indeed fully pneumatic. No springs inside. Very very expensive and very very light. I bought them in the mid 90's and at the time they were 33% lighter than anything on the market and prolly 33% more expensive than anything else too. Fully adjustable and fully rebuildable, nice bits of kit. Both braided hoses exiting the rear are breathers, correct. The big one at the top with a red hose clamp is the main engine breather from the timing cover (bottom end breather), see #251 & #246. The bottom one with a blue hose clamp is a breather that starts from both rocker boxes (top end breathers), and breathes into the oil tank. A tee runs off this which enable the oil tank to breathe and this runs to the rear of the bike where you noticed it. Run this system since the mid 90's and there are zero top end oil leaks on this bike, which, considering it runs a colossal Weslake billet steel stroker crank in size & weight, is obviously a good design. Never can have enough breathers on a 4 stroke..... Most of the stuff on that bike was made whilst i still lived in the UK, in this incarnation, built around 94-95. Yeah i had my own full workshop facilities. Over here i also have a full workshop/machineshop, but obviously smaller, non industrial sized machines and capable of running single phase 220/240V. 10 hours ago, Justgrazing said: You have a lathe for making some of those bits I'll take it .. ???? No seriously, that bike runs in a competition, and all moving parts such as an open clutch have to have a guard of some sort. No matter how basic or scruffy, as in the above. I'm trying at the mo to get my Dad in England to resurrect a webpage/site on my old Triumph drag bike. Once that's sorted and emailed to me, i'll post some pics & details - 1064cc.... Looks more chrome moly tubing but I might be wrong on that one .. And the swing arm looks quite specialised also .. Stock OIF (oil-in-frame) late 70's T140 frame with the vertical oil tank section cut out and replaced with std 1 3/4" tubing. Rear loop chopped (all the rage nowadays to put a loop back in !!), and custom 3/8" thick flat plate shaped top shock mounts added. Swing arm is completely stock Triumph, bar the caliper stay brkt is removed from underneath to on top. Bought this s/arm S/H about 3 years ago to replace the JMC box section s/arm seen in the pics below. Both have had a lick of polish and been nickel plated. At the same time, the s/arm was replaced, the engine had a rebuild and DE-TUNE. Amal 34mm Mk II carbs replaced with new Premier Amal 30mm mk I's, which meant 4 new inlet manifolds making, new filters, smaller Inlet valves (stock size), new valve seats to suit, stock (ish) 650 Triumph half race cams replacing Megacycle full race cams, geard lower, etc etc. Runs much sweeter now, especially in this heat, the bike is nearly 40 years old and i'm not 35 anymore........???? Awesome looking engine Sir which has raised a few points of interest so I've numbered you're photo's to enquire .. 1 .. That small cylinder that has a red wire and what looks like a braided airline to it and on the other side of the engine looks to have a long shaft protruding out the end .. What does that do .? And the upper tank is that the main fuel tank .? 2 .. shaft that looks to come out of the cyl described above .. The casing behind the clutch with the hose tapped into the top is that the gearbox .? ( 2 speed ?) it is hard to see but is that the drive side .. 3 .. The hose ( purple arrow ) to the throttle body/injector housing is that the pressure feed to the injectors .? if it is , the one between it and the engine is that an over pressure hose back to the top of that lower tank .? Is there an electronic or mechanical element to the throttle body to maintain AFR or does it run alcohol ( Meth or Eth ) and just constantly over spray given that drag engines tend not to run for too long and alcohol has a bit of a cooling effect .. I take it the 2 vertical rods on either side of the engine from top of case to top of head are to stop the head blowing off the top of the engine .. High comp' ratio .? In all mate a very impressive piece of engineering that I'm sure goes like it looks .. Oh and love the relieving and lightening on some of the ally shields and bracketry on the clutch side .. You gotta Milling machine besides the lathe then .. Edited October 18, 2018 by Justgrazing Sp
