PHUKET:-- Following the Phoenix tour boat disaster, Rear Admiral Somnuk Preampramot, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command based at Cape Panwa on Phuket’s east coast, has been ordered to set guidelines for “controlling and supervising” tour boats operating in the Phuket area.

R/Adm Somnuk held a meeting today of leading officials from government agencies involved in marine tourism transport to ensure and expedite compliance with marine safety regulations.

R/Adm Somnuk said the order followed Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha visiting Phuket in person on Monday (July 9) in response to the Phoenix disaster.

Thailand doesn't need a Navy, they need a Coast Guard.  A Coast Guard would have a lot of the same equipment, but the mission and training would be more oriented toward rescues, inspections/licensing, anti-smuggling and defense.

Raider is now called Twix ...

Non-Conformist Captains will be sunk at dawn

Hopefully their scaly immoral greedy employers will be first to sink permenantly. Until someone is punished seriously nothing will change, and the errant officials should share their cells, all of them 50 years

no chance of parole and with all their assets confiscated; boat owns, tour companies involved, captains and government officials and all of them seriously shamed on social media, big signs at their houses and more.

Can Big Joke swim ?  If so, he should head up the tourist marine police.  He will be grabbing headlines with his heroics on the high seas.  A policing unit similar to a coast guard is needed.  It they cannot do it themselves, they should hire a private security company like guard force.
